Every single motion Leng Xuepiao made while undoing Yu Jingfeng’s bandages felt, to him, like an enormous trial.
His face turned redder and redder, again and again.
Not just his face — his neck, his whole body, quickly flushed to an unbearable degree.
After Leng Xuepiao unwound the bandages wrapped around Yu Jingfeng, she leaned down and lifted his head.
She hadn’t realized her left hand alone lacked the strength to lift a man’s body.
Regardless, with just a gentle lift, his upper body rose up.
Only, with Yu Jingfeng propped up like this, he and the girl were now even closer.
As she undid his bandages, her face was nearly pressed against his.
Her smooth hair kept brushing against Yu Jingfeng’s face and chin, stirring something deep in his heart.
Where Leng Xuepiao was sitting was also, crucially, an issue in itself.
Even as she sat in a position that could only be described as provocative, her clear eyes remained utterly pure, without a trace of impurity.
Yu Jingfeng felt certain he would die — sooner or later, he would die at this little girl’s hands.
Still, even dying, he’d be willing.
One loop, two loops, three loops… Leng Xuepiao kept diligently working to undo Yu Jingfeng’s bandages.
Yu Jingfeng’s gaze never left the girl; he watched her quietly, the color in his eyes growing more and more complicated.
To avoid trouble, Feng Jiu’er coughed loudly.
Yu Jingfeng suddenly snapped back, realizing there was someone else in the room after all.
He turned his head and looked at Feng Jiu’er with an expression that said, “Why are you here?”
Feng Jiu’er shot him a look: As if you’d actually want me here.
“Xuepiao, I have other things to attend to. You bandage him up. I’ll leave the medicine chest with you — please look after him.”
“All right.” Leng Xuepiao replied softly, her hands never pausing in their work.
“And don’t press too hard — his wound is quite deep,” Feng Jiu’er reminded as she turned to leave.
Big Brother Yu, was this wound worth it after all?
Well, in the end, it was all because of her that he’d gotten hurt in the first place.
Now, leaving the most wonderful little Xuepiao alone with him — Big Brother Yu, if your body’s up to it, please enjoy yourself slowly.
Feng Jiu’er turned back and gave Yu Jingfeng one meaningful glance before withdrawing her gaze and leaving together with Jian Yi.
With a creak, the door closed.
In the room, only the two of them remained — and both of them were on the bed.
Leng Xuepiao removed all the bandages from Yu Jingfeng’s body and, examining his wound, frowned, her whole body leaning over him.
Yu Jingfeng wasn’t thinking that his stomach couldn’t handle this little frame.
It was his heart — his heart simply couldn’t take it. What was he supposed to do?
The moment the little girl had sat down, he’d let out a long, heavy breath.
Leng Xuepiao, only belatedly noticing, shifted her gaze to Yu Jingfeng’s face.
Seeing his slightly pained expression, she realized she’d been pressing down rather heavily.
“Sorry!” Leng Xuepiao flipped over and got off the bed. “Lie down properly quickly — how did you get hurt this badly?”
Before Yu Jingfeng could say anything, Leng Xuepiao set the medicine chest on the bedside and opened it.
She began looking for disinfectant, cotton balls, and gauze.
These things weren’t something people of this era would recognize easily, but as one of Feng Jiu’er’s most prized disciples, Leng Xuepiao naturally knew them well.
With the little girl having moved away from him, Yu Jingfeng slowly let out a breath of relief.
He lay down obediently and watched the woman busying herself beside him.
“It’s nothing, just a moment’s carelessness and I got hurt — but it’s fine, it doesn’t hurt.”
The words had barely left Yu Jingfeng’s mouth when Leng Xuepiao, with practiced ease, applied the disinfectant to his skin.
The moment it touched him, every nerve in Yu Jingfeng’s body tensed up.
“It’s fine!”
To preserve his image and not frighten the little girl, he clenched his teeth, making sure the sound that escaped him wasn’t too unbearable to hear.
“Xuepiao, I’m fine, it really doesn’t hurt, you can…” Ah — that hurt so much!
The disinfectant came down again, and Yu Jingfeng nearly cried out from the pain.
But Leng Xuepiao showed no sign of stopping; she continued disinfecting his wound without even looking at him.
Yu Jingfeng stared unblinkingly at the fair, delicate little girl, wanting nothing more than to distract himself.
Miss Jiu’er had once said — if your mind wanders elsewhere, you won’t feel the pain.
So then why did it still hurt so much?
The disinfectant Feng Jiu’er carried was rather potent, which of course also meant it stung more.
The pain would pass quickly enough afterward — a man ought not to mind a little pain.
Yu Jingfeng badly wanted to say: this was simply wishful thinking on a woman’s part.
He was in so much pain his sweat was pouring out.
“Xuepiao, it doesn’t hurt, don’t be scared! It’ll be over soon.”
The man, in the midst of agony, wasn’t sure whether he was comforting his “wife” or comforting himself.
“I never said I was scared.” Once the disinfectant was fully applied, Leng Xuepiao dabbed at the edges of the wound with a cotton ball before slowly speaking.
“I’ve seen plenty of wounds like this. Why would I be scared?”
“Are you afraid of pain?” She set down the cotton ball and tilted her head, looking at Yu Jingfeng.
Yu Jingfeng’s eyes went wide at once, and he shook his head. “How could that be? I’m a grown man through and through — I’m not afraid of pain at all.”
“Oh.” Leng Xuepiao merely uttered that single word before pulling out another bottle of liquid medicine from the chest.
Yu Jingfeng remembered this kind of bottle — it seemed like the stuff that hurt quite badly.
Before the medicine had even touched him, he already felt a jolt of dread.
So as not to worry his “wife,” and not to seem like less of a man in her eyes, he was determined to bear it.
“Ow…” The moment the medicine touched him, Yu Jingfeng still couldn’t help crying out.
How could it possibly hurt this much? Miss Jiu’er, help!
Pathetic — he’d actually cried out.
“That’s not it!” Yu Jingfeng forced himself to endure the pain and shook his head. “It’s… this medicine’s just too cold, I wasn’t quite ready for it.”
“It doesn’t hurt, not at all.”
Leng Xuepiao tilted her head again, looking at him with an air of complete innocence. “Not at all?”
“Not at all!” Yu Jingfeng shook his head with a smile, tears pouring inward.
“How could it not hurt at all?” Leng Xuepiao picked up the bottle again, frowning slightly.
“Could it have expired? No, I need to go ask about it.”
“No need to go.” Yu Jingfeng, startled, sat straight up.
The motion pulled at his wound, and he broke into another sweat.
Leng Xuepiao, who had just turned to leave, turned back and looked at him.
“It does hurt.” Yu Jingfeng nodded and lay back down. “It hurts a bit, but for me, it’s nothing.”
“Go on and keep applying it. Sorry for the trouble.”
“All right then.” Leng Xuepiao twisted open the bottle once more.
She had no idea that as she twisted it open, the man lying there swallowed hard in fear.
“You really can endure it — I’ll put on a bit more for you, so it heals faster!”
“You know, this medicine is very hard to come by, and it sells for a lot.”
“Still, Jiu’er prepared it for you in advance, which means you’re quite important — otherwise this medicine wouldn’t have been used on you at all.”
A bit more? Yu Jingfeng wanted to scream for help.
He really wasn’t all that important — and worse, he was seriously worried whether he could endure any more of it at all.
Xuepiao, you’re not trying to murder your own husband, are you?
