“As long as the two of you are willing, every day is a good day.” Feng Jiu’er said with a light smile.
She truly was happy — finally getting to see two pairs of lovers reach a happy ending, and both pairs family to her at that.
Being able to witness their happiness filled Feng Jiu’er’s heart with a joy words could hardly capture.
“Of course.” Xing Zizhou lowered his eyes to look at the woman in his arms.
“Xiao Yingtao has already agreed to me — she’s already said yes.”
Xiao Yingtao met Xing Zizhou’s gaze again and found she could no longer refuse.
“You go ahead and make all the fuss you want on your own — Jiu’er and I don’t have time for that.”
“The fighting’s only just quieted down, and there are still plenty of wounded brothers who need…”
“It’s fine, we can manage both.” Feng Jiu’er said softly.
Feng Jiu’er’s words put Xing Zizhou’s mind at ease.
“Jiu’er, so you mean New Year’s Day really works? Then I’ll go get things ready.”
“As long as the fighting doesn’t flare back up, it’s fine.” Feng Jiu’er nodded. “The others will be happy for you both too.”
“Good.” Xing Zizhou lowered his head and kissed Xiao Yingtao, his eyes brimming with tenderness.
“Xiao Yingtao, I’m off to find us a bridal room. I’m afraid you’ll have to make do for now — we can’t get married in a home of our own.”
“Maybe after we marry we’ll still be busy for a while longer, but I promise you, we’ll…”
“I don’t want to leave Jiu’er.” Xiao Yingtao reached up and covered Xing Zizhou’s mouth with her hand.
“If I absolutely had to choose between you and Jiu’er, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second — I’d choose Jiu’er.”
Hearing Xiao Yingtao’s rather heartbreaking words, Xing Zizhou didn’t feel hurt in the least.
“In this world, aside from Jiu’er, I come in second, don’t I?”
Xiao Yingtao pressed her lips together, thought it over for a moment, then nodded. “Mm.”
“Then that’s good enough.” Xing Zizhou leaned in again.
Xiao Yingtao turned and dodged his kiss.
Feng Jiu’er cleared her throat and shook her head. “You gave me a scare there!”
She’d been worried for a second that she was about to get hit! Xing Zizhou really was generous with his affection — good thing she wasn’t the target.
Xing Zizhou’s kiss landed on top of Xiao Yingtao’s head instead; his gaze shifted over to Feng Jiu’er.
“Following Jiu’er has always been my heart’s wish. Now that my wife supports me unconditionally, I couldn’t be happier.”
The moment he finished speaking, Xing Zizhou pulled Xiao Yingtao close again and kissed the top of her head.
“Ahem…” On the other side, someone gave a pointed cough.
“Tomorrow is the day Xiao Jiang and I get married — could you two hold off on other topics for now?”
“I just…” Qiao Mu frowned. “It’s not easy to finally get married — shouldn’t everyone be taking this seriously?”
“Do you two even know what respect means? Huh?”
Feng Jiang pulled his little wife into his arms, silently comforting her.
Qiao Mu swept a glance over everyone present, her lower lip jutting out in a pronounced pout.
“I’m just stating facts. This is my first time getting married — I can’t afford to be careless about it.”
“Right.” Feng Jiu’er nodded.
Honestly, she was almost undone by how adorable Qiao Mu looked just then.
If it weren’t for the fact that those were still her eyebrows, those still her eyes, that still her nose, Feng Jiu’er might have thought she’d run into a fake Qiao Mu.
Qiao Mu pouting and acting cute — who’d ever seen such a thing?
“Let’s sort out the current situation first, and then start getting busy with Qiao Mu and my third imperial brother’s wedding.”
“Once their wedding is done, we’ll move on to arranging things for Xing Zizhou and Xiao Yingtao.”
“Whether in the past, now, or even in the future, I am deeply grateful for everyone’s support and help.”
“If it weren’t for me, your weddings wouldn’t have to be this modest.”
“I, Feng Jiu’er, promise you all — once the affairs of the Feng Clan are settled, everyone here will be properly rewarded according to their contributions.”
“For now, I’m sorry to trouble you all.”
“What important matters do we need to discuss? Let’s get to it — we’re busy people.” Miss Qiao leaned back into her man’s embrace once more.
This path was one everyone here had chosen for themselves; for Feng Jiu’er to speak this way felt almost like treating them as outsiders.
But she had things on her mind, and she couldn’t hold them back.
Feng Jiu’er glanced at the man beside her, her expression turning somewhat solemn.
“So that we can all have a proper New Year, and more importantly, so we can properly witness the happiness of these two new couples, there’s nothing we can afford to skip.”
“Feng Jin has been holding us at bay here the whole time — I suspect he won’t stop until he’s broken through.”
Feng Jin — the man Feng Jiu’er had once called Eldest Imperial Brother.
But now that he had tried more than once to wipe out everyone here, whether acting on his own will or under orders, Feng Jiu’er could no longer bring herself to call him brother.
“We must drive them back north of Songjiang before their reinforcements arrive.” Feng Jiu’er’s voice continued.
“Right now, west of Yongshan City, the fighting between the Longwu Army and Pingyuan City still hasn’t ended. I intend to lead troops there myself to reinforce them.”
“Here’s the battle plan my third imperial brother and I have drawn up. Take a look and see if you have any other suggestions.”
Yu Jingfeng stood, took the battle plan from Feng Jiu’er’s hands, and handed a copy to everyone present.
Xiao Yingtao always checked the roster first whenever there was a name list involved.
“Jiu’er.” She quickly spotted the problem. “You’re only taking Feng Yinan with you — what does that mean?”
“That’s not right.” Yu Jingfeng sat down, looking at Xiao Yingtao. “I’ll be going west with Jiu’er too, and so will Long Shiyi.”
“Do the two of you even need to be told? You’re both men the Prince assigned to protect Jiu’er.” Xiao Yingtao frowned.
“And Jian Yi as well.” Feng Jiu’er added softly.
“The rest of you stay behind — besides helping my third imperial brother drive off Feng Jin’s forces, you also need to find a suitable place to keep brewing medicine.”
Feng Jiu’er’s gaze shifted to Yang Sheng, who looked as if he wanted to say something but held back.
“You have to stay behind too. Your brothers are all still here — unless the poison in their bodies can be purged, I won’t be taking anyone with me.”
Yang Sheng pressed his lips together and finally nodded.
“I have a separate task for Zhao Yusheng — I’ll go over it with him in a moment.” Feng Jiu’er looked toward Zhao Yusheng.
“All right.” Zhao Yusheng nodded, without much objection.
Even if Jiu’er pushed further west, it would still be near Yongshan City, not far at all.
“Aside from personnel arrangements, if anyone has other suggestions, speak up now.” Feng Jiu’er said, smiling as she glanced at Qiao Mu.
“Time is tight, and there’s still a lot to arrange — we need to move quickly.”
“Let me start with my main suggestion.” Feng Jiang gently patted his little wife’s shoulder.
“Songjiang’s narrowest point is right at Yongshan City. We…”
This first meeting after the battle didn’t end until deep into the night.
Once it was over, Feng Jiu’er didn’t return to her private chambers, but instead left her room and headed toward the back courtyard.
Yu Jingfeng followed close behind, as always; Feng Jiu’er was long since used to this and said nothing about it.
There was a residence here, built along the mountainside, and near the mountain’s edge lay a lake.
By the lakeshore stood a pavilion — a rather unusual one.
Feng Jiu’er had chosen this spot precisely because of that pavilion’s peculiar nature.
Seen from a distance, wisps of white mist curled up from within the pavilion, and all around it seemed like something out of a fairyland.
