“What have you gained in the end from all your evil deeds?” Feng Li’s gaze shifted away from Feng Qiongcang, landing on Jian Yi’s face.
The coldness in his eyes, the instant he looked at this boy, softened into gentleness. “Go back. Jiu’er needs you.”
Jian Yi shook his head and rasped, “Don’t do anything foolish!”
Jiu’er had already lost her mother — she couldn’t lose her father too.
If something happened to Feng Li as well, how would Jiu’er go on living afterward?
He didn’t want to see Jiu’er heartbroken.
As long as he lived, his one goal was to make Jiu’er happy!
Jian Yi lowered his sword and walked slowly toward Feng Li. “I’ll stay behind. You go back!”
“No!” Feng Li sidestepped to dodge him.
“My lord, Jiu’er is still waiting for you.” Jian Yi suddenly stepped forward, trying to snatch the explosive bundle away.
If someone had to stay, then let it be him.
“Even my words mean nothing to you now?” Feng Li kicked out at him.
Jian Yi’s wound flared with pain, forcing him to stumble back half a step.
Feng Li’s eyes darkened, and he shouted angrily, “Go back now!”
“I won’t leave.” Jian Yi bore through the pain, climbed back up, and kept moving toward Feng Li.
“Go back!” Feng Li sounded helpless.
This stubborn boy!
Off to the side, Feng Qiongcang seized the opportunity and drew closer amid the chaos.
Keep the green hills, and there’s no need to worry about firewood! As long as he could get out alive, there would surely be another chance.
The army was gone, but it could be rebuilt.
As long as he himself survived, all of this would eventually be his again.
Feng Li’s attention seemed entirely fixed on Jian Yi.
“Go back!” His tone grew heavier, his voice low.
Jian Yi remained just as stubbornly unyielding. “I won’t leave!”
“Go back now!”
“If we’re leaving, we leave together.”
The instant their eyes lifted, something flashed simultaneously through Jian Yi’s and Feng Li’s gazes.
A chance — only this once, only this single instant.
Miss it, and it would mean death for both.
Jian Yi understood. Feng Li understood too.
That fleeting understanding passed between them, almost imperceptible.
“Go!” Feng Li roared.
Suddenly, Feng Qiongcang thrust out a palm strike.
Something flashed through both Jian Yi’s and Feng Li’s eyes at once — this was the moment!
From Jian Yi’s sleeve, a short blade shot out, aimed straight at Feng Qiongcang’s heart.
Feng Li, at the same instant, leapt forward with astonishing, unimaginable speed.
Feng Qiongcang truly hadn’t expected the two of them to strike at the same time.
Weren’t they supposed to be busy arguing with each other?
He hadn’t expected that Feng Li, who always seemed so straightforward and honest, would also know how to play tricks — he’d truly underestimated him!
As Feng Qiongcang dodged Jian Yi’s attack, he spun in midair and struck a palm toward Feng Li’s back.
Feng Qiongcang’s face twisted with fury, yet Feng Li’s incoming strike — he didn’t dodge it at all.
His pupils contracted in that instant, and he swung his hand hard, sending a powerful palm force straight at Jian Yi.
Feng Li had never imagined that instead of dodging his own attack, Feng Qiongcang would turn and strike at Jian Yi, who posed no immediate threat to him.
But Jian Yi had already seen through Feng Qiongcang’s intent!
He immediately raised his palm to meet the strike, crying out in alarm at the same time: “My lord, don’t fall for it!”
Feng Qiongcang had judged correctly — Feng Li would rather die himself than let Jian Yi die at his hand.
How well did he understand Feng Li?
Feng Li had no time to think it through — he truly couldn’t stand by and watch Jian Yi get hurt.
Feng Qiongcang was right — being soft-hearted was his greatest flaw!
With a hiss, Feng Li tore the fuse from the explosive bundle and leapt forward, throwing himself at Feng Qiongcang.
A flash of triumph passed through Feng Qiongcang’s eyes.
That palm strike had never been meant for Jian Yi at all — he turned it back, landing it squarely on Feng Li’s body!
With a boom, Feng Li’s chest took the full blow.
But to Feng Qiongcang’s utter shock, Feng Li didn’t dodge at all, and instead continued charging straight at him.
Even as the strike landed, Feng Li had already clamped down hard on Feng Qiongcang’s arm.
“Being soft-hearted is my flaw — but perhaps it isn’t only a flaw. At least, the person I care about will get to live on.”
Beneath his feet, he leapt with all his strength.
Feng Qiongcang had no time to react before he was pulled off his feet.
The two lithe figures, along with the explosive bundle, plunged together toward the bottom of the cliff.
“Feng Qiongcang, if I can’t kill you, then today, I’ll die together with you!”
