Chapter 2057: Modern Arc: Ninth Imperial Uncle, I’m Afraid of Heights

Some people badly wanted to laugh.

So their Young Master actually knew how to make a dry joke.

But no one truly dared laugh out loud.

This Miss Jiu’er was probably the first person to ever complain about the Young Master having too many rules.

Anyone else — how would they have dared?

Jiu’er’s small face flushed slightly, feeling a bit self-conscious.

How was she uncouth? He was simply too refined for his own good.

It was just breakfast — did there really need to be so many rules?

“I’m just a rough sort of person, from an ordinary background, not some pampered young lady from a great household. I never learned table etiquette.”

“If you want to learn, I can have the butler arrange for it,” Lu Beicheng replied indifferently.

Zhen Jiu’er nearly rolled her eyes at him.

Who wanted to learn table etiquette? Living so properly, so rigidly — wasn’t that exhausting?

“Young Master…”

“Make some noise for Miss Zhen, so she can eat more comfortably.”

With that, Lu Beicheng paid no further attention to anyone. He seemed to sip his coffee and eat at a leisurely pace, but the large plate of food in front of him was soon more than half gone.

In truth, he wasn’t nearly as elegant as Jiu’er made him out to be.

It was only because he was so extraordinarily good-looking that every move the flawless, handsome man made came across as effortlessly pleasing.

That wasn’t an effect a few simple graceful gestures alone could produce.

The servants had been tense and uneasy at first, unsure whether they were really meant to make noise.

Then one bolder maid let her footsteps fall a little heavier.

After that, everyone began to “loosen up,” not only making some noise when setting things down but even starting to talk to one another.

Simple conversation.

But at least the dining room was no longer dead silent.

Jiu’er finally let out a breath of relief and hurried to eat.

With good food in front of her, this was the way to truly enjoy it.

Before long, Lu Beicheng set down his cup.

A figure walked in from outside — Ji Mingyu.

“Young Master, everyone’s ready.”

Jiu’er looked at Ji Mingyu, hardly able to believe it.

No wonder he was the Young Master’s top-tier assistant — he’d even timed his arrival to match exactly when the Young Master finished breakfast.

The moment the Young Master drank his last sip of coffee, Ji Mingyu arrived.

It showed just how disciplined about time these two usually were!

But she hadn’t finished eating yet!

Zhen Jiu’er quickly lowered her head and wolfed down her food.

Ji Mingyu was rather at a loss — eating like that, wouldn’t she choke herself?

Still, the Young Master’s time truly could not be wasted on anyone’s account!

Ji Mingyu was about to wheel Lu Beicheng away when, unexpectedly, Lu Beicheng flicked his fingers.

The Young Master would wait for Miss Jiu’er!

This caught Ji Mingyu completely off guard.

The Young Master’s time had never once been willingly spent on someone unimportant.

Did that mean Miss Jiu’er actually mattered to him?

What an astonishing thing!

Zhen Jiu’er finally finished eating, tidied everything up, and made her way to the back courtyard, where she boarded a sightseeing cart that headed toward the mountains behind the estate.

She’d lived through two lifetimes already — no, counting this one, three — and had seen no shortage of imperial palaces and princely manors. Yet even so, the Lu family’s grounds still left her utterly astonished, which said a great deal about the sheer scale of Lu Beicheng’s household.

There was even a helipad!

No wonder everyone said the Lu family’s Young Master Jiu was fabulously wealthy!

Three helicopters stood waiting.

Jiu’er and Lu Beicheng boarded the same one.

As the helicopter lifted off, that brief moment of weightlessness left her feeling dazed, and for an instant, it was as if she’d been carried back to her Ninth Imperial Uncle’s side.

Without meaning to, her small hand reached out and grabbed hold of the hem of Lu Beicheng’s coat.

“…Ninth Imperial Uncle, I’m afraid of heights.”
