Reincarnation?
Jiu’er’s heart suddenly began pounding, hard and fast.
An inexplicable tension gripped her.
“I believe in it.” How could she not believe in it? She herself had already been through it twice, hadn’t she?
But why would Ninth Master suddenly bring something like this up?
Lu Beicheng didn’t say anything more, his fingertips twitching slightly.
He felt, somehow, like smoking.
He’d stopped walking, and Zhen Jiu’er had stopped behind him too.
She couldn’t help feeling that tonight, Ninth Master seemed weighed down by something. What could he possibly be thinking about?
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed before Jiu’er finally asked, “Where did you go tonight?”
“The palace.”
“The palace?” Jiu’er’s heart jolted, and she stared blankly at his profile.
Right — his wheelchair was essentially a machine, capable of moving quite fast.
And the palace wasn’t actually all that far from the Ninth Prince’s residence.
On foot, it might take a long time, but with the speed of his wheelchair’s mechanical legs, less than an hour would likely be enough to get there.
But that required one precondition: he would have had to already know where the palace was.
Otherwise, how would he have found it?
“Hasn’t this city not even been thoroughly surveyed yet?” Jiu’er voiced the doubt in her mind.
Lu Beicheng’s response was calm and unconcerned: “Just a feeling — I sensed which direction the palace was in.”
A feeling!
But the way he said it, so openly and without hesitation, made it hard to doubt him at all.
“Why did you ask about reincarnation? Ninth Master, do you believe in it too?”
She couldn’t shake the feeling that tonight, the Ninth Master of the Lu family seemed strange.
“A feeling,” Lu Beicheng replied again — the same two words.
A feeling… Jiu’er wanted to ask more.
Lu Beicheng suddenly turned to look back at her. “There are some things I can’t explain — just as you won’t explain to me why you went to the Prince’s residence tonight.”
So — that was the end of it.
Afterward, they returned to the campsite. Ninth Master went into his tent to rest, and Jiu’er didn’t come back out again either.
A sleepless night.
The next day, the archaeological team arrived early in the morning.
“So this is the legendary Ninth Master!”
The archaeological team numbered eight in total.
The team leader, Yan Qiu, was one of Ninth Master’s men, responsible for the group’s security.
The head of the archaeological effort was a professor, Xiao Qingtan, in his fifties — everyone called him Professor Xiao.
Professor Xiao had brought three people with him: one was his assistant, Xia Zi, a woman of twenty-seven.
There were also two of his prized students: one, a third-year graduate student named Xiao Shengyuan, male, twenty-five.
The other, a first-year graduate student, a twenty-three-year-old woman named He Muling.
Of the remaining three, one was a twenty-eight-year-old male photographer, Su Nan.
Another, also twenty-eight, was Meng Xiao, a male wilderness survival expert.
And there was a physician, Ren Qiqi, a woman of twenty-six.
The team wasn’t large in number, but it had everything it needed — altogether quite a complete lineup.
At the moment, the two chatting together were the first-year student He Muling and the physician Ren Qiqi.
Both were seeing Ninth Master in person for the first time, and this one glimpse had completely redefined what the word “handsome” meant to them.
Handsome to a terrifying degree — devastatingly, infuriatingly handsome.
“Even more perfect than I imagined!” Ren Qiqi’s fingertips were trembling with excitement.
He Muling couldn’t help sucking in a sharp breath of cold air. “I’ve never seen a man this handsome in my life. Oh my god, what am I going to do! I don’t like Senior Xiao at all anymore right now! Compared to Ninth Master, Senior Xiao is simply…”
“Ahem!” Not far away, Xiao Shengyuan gave a light cough.
He Muling immediately bit her lip and swallowed the rest of her sentence.
Turning to see Xiao Shengyuan walking past her, He Muling laughed awkwardly. “I didn’t mean it that way, but Ninth Master really is… he’s really just too handsome!”
