Chapter 1342: Grave Matter

The vast starry sky had buried away how many secrets across all of time? The years were endless, time was long, and even the passage of hundreds of millions of years within the starry expanse counted for nothing.

The Mythic Era changed and passed, Heavenly Venerates turned to ash, Divine Courts crumbled into ruin, all Sovereigns decayed away, and even the ancient Great Emperors turned into mere handfuls of yellow earth.

These epochs, one after another, drifted into the distance.

Countless outstanding talents, all buried within the years — no one could withstand it. However peerless one’s brilliance, there would come a day when life reached its end.

Supremes howled in grief, divine peaks collapsed, the four seas evaporated dry, sun and moon fell from the sky, the starry river shattered — yet in the end, nothing could be held onto; each could only fade into solitude, one by one.

Throughout all ages, the Heaven’s Chosen contended for supremacy, dazzling through the eons — yet it was all a futile struggle!

In the long river of time, even the greatest heroes enjoyed only a brief glory, a single flash of brilliance, never able to break through the shackles, never able to exist eternally alongside the world.

Heavenly Venerates, ancient Sovereigns, Great Emperors… each one swallowing mountains and rivers with their aura, pressing down upon the universe, plucking stars and capturing the moon, ruling over all territories, unrivaled in strength — but what had they truly left behind in the end?

Each of them had flourished for a time, making the entire universe tremble before them, yet even those who could shatter heaven and earth, who could destroy the cosmos, could not hold onto their own fate.

These people were all renowned across the ages, yet within the vast starry river, they could only linger for the briefest of instants.

The glory of the Venerates, the majesty of the ancient Sovereigns, the bearing of the Emperors — all buried away, merely a single glance back from the universe.

Stars twinkled everywhere. The universe was silent.

Ye Fan stood within the starry expanse, silent, carefully pondering everything that had happened, gazing into the cold depths of the star domain.

“Is it the next life that is buried? Seizing the ultimate mystery of heaven and earth’s creation.” he murmured softly to himself.

Wu Yi’s words had given him too much inspiration, stirring waves within him — the Emperor’s Burial Star, the Path to Immortality Ascension, containing great secrets of the heavens spanning from ancient times to the present.

“Patriarch, walk well!” Ye Fan felt a touch of sorrow — the stone coffin had already traveled deep into the universe for several hours now, yet he still felt a lingering bitterness.

The Fourth Generation Patriarch, brilliant and extraordinary in talent, had ended just like this. He had hidden away in the Primordial Forbidden Zone, taken refuge in a place where things reverse at their extreme — yet even that had been useless; in the end, it had still been a desolate end.

“Has anyone, in pursuing the ancient method of the Path to Immortality Ascension, ever succeeded in taking that step?” Ye Fan asked himself.

The Undying Heavenly Sovereign, the Ten Transformations Ancient Sovereign of the Divine Silkworm Clan, the Ruthless Great Emperor… names could not help but surface in Ye Fan’s mind — had they succeeded?

The Emperor Venerate, the Battle Sage Sovereign… the Beginningless Great Emperor, the Green Emperor — one brilliant, dazzling name after another, shaking the ages — how far had they gotten on this path?

And there were even more ancient Heavenly Venerates, how dazzling must they have been, what had they done in pursuit of eternal life, what heaven-defying ancient methods had they founded?

One brilliant name after another, in the end, all had passed away.

Ye Fan gazed toward the far side of the starry sky — could these ancient Supremes truly rest easy? Unrivaled and lonely since ancient times, in the end defeated by the passage of years — was there truly no one who had fought out a path, a method of their own?

Some unknown time later, he was still standing there in a daze, until the clamoring voice of the little troublemaker came from within the cauldron, and he startled awake, coming back to his senses.

He released Yang Xi once more, letting him stand within the Golden Sacred Domain, following alongside, gazing out at the starry sky.

Ye Fan had searched this place for a very long time; the Underworld’s city no longer existed, this space had become a dead end, no longer able to let the Yin Soldiers pass through.

In the days that followed, Ye Fan searched every falling star where the Taiji Curve was located, but found no other special gains — some formation arrays remained, but all had decayed.

He stood towering in the starry sky, gazing out over the entire star river.

Using a stretch of starry sky as a diagram, arranging the stars, forming a massive Taiji Divine Diagram — this was a rare occurrence since ancient times, surely the work of some earth-shaking grand design.

It was just a pity that, with time’s passage, whoever had set up this formation back then had long since turned to ash, and these traces were nearly worn away.

“Is this a massive teleportation array? This is far too vast — where could this lead to, surpassing the Five-Colored Altar? Could it not span all the way through eternity?”

Ye Fan stepped back to view the entire star realm, carefully considering every possibility.

He thought of many things — such a grand design, such a massive array diagram, and now entirely abandoned, with only the Underworld’s ancient city on one falling star still in use, everything else turned to ash.

“The Underworld made use of part of it — then who was this entire vast ancient diagram meant to serve?”

Ye Fan, reasoning from the Underworld, immediately thought of the Ancient Heavenly Court — perhaps only such a colossal entity could have had such grandeur, could have made such an arrangement.

He drew out an ancient scroll from within his body, seemingly forged from starlight, glimmering like a thin gauze, light and nimble, covered densely with countless stars.

This was a mysterious ancient diagram, connected to the Ancient Heavenly Court, having successively fallen into the hands of certain ancient Sovereigns and Great Emperors. In ancient times, the Battle Sage Sovereign had once held it, often gazing up at the starry sky deep in the night.

The glorious years had passed. In this life, Ye Fan had retrieved it from the deepest depths of the Chaos Dragon Nest — the Ruthless One’s burial coffin ground — and now examined it carefully, comparing it against this place.

This precious treasure remained calm as ever, showing no reaction at all — nothing could be discerned here. He flipped it over, examining the back of the ancient diagram — there, aside from the site on Earth marking the Ninety-Nine Dragon Mountain’s buried Immortal Cauldron, there were two more diagrams, pointing to unknown locations.

“No similarities found.”

Ye Fan frowned. The records on the Immortal Treasure Diagram did not match the pattern of this stretch of starry sky; he could find no clue, no anomaly.

He did not give up, planning to first fly to the Sacred Body’s Ancient Tomb, then to the Overlord Body’s Burial Ground, hoping to search these two life extremes for all their secrets.

What had the ancients truly wanted to do here? Various guesses churned in his mind.

“A special sensation!” Ye Fan’s heart jolted — he had only been trying it on a whim, never expecting the ancient diagram to actually flash with a pattern.

Then, a small star lit up — was that the star where the Sacred Body’s Ancient Tomb was located?

Ye Fan moved swiftly, leaving footprints on almost every inch of ground, but in the end nothing changed — it remained just a single small star flickering.

Then, without lingering, he turned toward the Overlord Body’s Burial Ground, holding the ancient diagram, carefully examining the mountains and rivers, moving swiftly through this place.

Another small star flickered, linking together with the previous one, crossing to form strands of pattern, becoming a hazy illusion like Yin-Yang mist.

The Immortal Treasure Diagram had reacted — it was no dead object, and had actually produced such a change. The myriad stars on the front dimmed, while on the back, among the three concrete ancient diagrams, one had formed a small Taiji rune, flickering uncertainly in the darkness and light.

Of course, it was only a small rune, branded within this diagram, like the manifestation of an ancient formation.

“This is…” Ye Fan was deeply moved, gripping this ancient scroll tightly.

After some searching, he sighed softly, gradually guessing at the purpose of this place — this might well be a vast teleportation array; there was no telling how far the road ahead truly was!

To actually use the stars themselves to form the diagram, becoming a massive celestial star gate.

The more Ye Fan studied it, the more he felt this resembled the Taiji Bagua Star Gate that had appeared when the Five-Colored Altar opened the ancient path. Only, here they had directly constructed a great array using the stars themselves — surely far more vast.

“Could this not be a teleportation array leading to the Immortal Realm?” He shook his head before even finishing the thought — it seemed too far-fetched. But such a massive formation array truly was astonishing.

Ye Fan had also considered attempting to restore all the array patterns, but by himself alone it was nearly impossible to accomplish — every single star in this region had arrangements upon it, not even excluding the Sun Star.

“Ah, perhaps only by thoroughly activating this stellar divine diagram could all the secrets be known.”

Ye Fan sighed softly, putting away the ancient diagram. Even though this stretch of starry sky’s pattern was connected to the Immortal Treasure Ancient Scroll in his hand, this divine array would still need to be activated before any clues could manifest.

He silently noted this down — he couldn’t manage it now, but perhaps in the future, joining forces with the Black Emperor, Duan De, and others, there might come a day to revive this vast ancient array.

Ye Fan returned to the Human Race’s Fiftieth City, to see the Guide, having many questions to ask, and found him at his own donkey meat restaurant, drinking with Yang Yunteng.

Donkey meat hot pot, aged fine wine, the fragrance wafting through the air — even the little troublemaker was tempted to have a few drinks.

“Kid, you really are a disaster star — wherever you go, people die, and when they die it’s a whole crowd at once, really not a welcome sight.” The Guide, Zhao Gongyi, his face full of bristling beard like steel needles, said with a hint of drunkenness.

Ye Fan felt awkward, naturally knowing he was referring to the matter with the Cang Clan; he could only stay silent, drinking on his own.

“Whoever meets you meets bad luck, wherever you go, death follows — say… did you come from the Underworld?” Zhao Gongyi glanced sideways at him.

Ye Fan’s heart stirred, and he said, “I was just about to ask Senior for guidance — do you know anything about the Underworld?”

“What, call you fat and you’re already out of breath? Are you doing this on purpose?” the Guide said, none too pleased.

Ye Fan shook his head, asking about everything related to the Underworld, his expression solemn, laying out clearly everything he had witnessed on the falling star.

“What, the Underworld… Yin Soldiers passing through, crossing through our star domain?” Zhao Gongyi set down his wine cup and stood up abruptly.

“Yes, Uncle is very impressive — he charged right into the Underworld, and those ghosts couldn’t do anything to us.” Yang Xi said innocently.

Zhao Gongyi’s expression turned extremely grave, saying, “Though the Ancient Heavenly Court has fallen, and there are signs that the Underworld still exists, I never expected so many Yin Soldiers to be passing through — are they trying to destroy an entire vast star domain?”

“Those Yin Soldiers weren’t very powerful.” Ye Fan said.

“Those Yin Soldiers were all summoned from various ancient life sites, and for now can only be considered ancient corpses, naturally not very strong. But once they enter the Underworld it’s completely different — no few of the Yin Soldiers will have their past-life combat strength awakened, and by then, it will be terrifyingly overwhelming!”

Zhao Gongyi, sturdy of build like an iron tower, revealed a trace of worry — what was the Underworld planning against whom? Was this a war continuing on from the Mythic Era? Even he only had a partial understanding.

This was an extremely serious matter — he strode swiftly outward, needing to report this urgently, to send word to the higher-ups through the ancient star road.

Before long, he returned with a grave expression, saying, “My eldest disciple has personally gone to deliver the message. I expect there will soon be a great upheaval in the starry sky.”

This ancient road was a legacy left behind by the Heavenly Court of the Mythic Era. The Underworld, hidden away for countless epochs, had suddenly appeared, and all these years had been moving troops and preparing for war along this road — this was not a good omen at all, and there was no telling which domain it would strike.

“You who have set foot upon the star road, among the few powerful ones, may in the future have the chance to enter certain special ancient domains, to undergo a War of the Gods, using it as a trial by fire.”

Hearing this, Ye Fan’s heart surged with waves of emotion — was this truly a great age, was the Mythic Era continuing on? His gaze grew firm, fearless, believing firmly that in this life he would be unrivaled — whatever the Underworld, whatever the gods, all would be suppressed!

“Oh, I forgot to tell you — some news has come from up ahead, from an old acquaintance of yours, also from the Emperor’s Burial Star…”

“What?!” Ye Fan shot up to his feet.
