Chapter 1603: Burying the Void

“Ahh…” the Samsara Sovereign let out a miserable cry as his skull detonated.

The shattering of a supreme being’s skull presaged the destruction of his immortal platform โ€” a person who had once achieved the Dao would be annihilated within this heaven and earth, becoming at last nothing more than dust in the tide of history.

At the same moment, the Green Copper Cauldron also shattered into four pieces, exploding outward, transforming into a vast rain of light that surged in all four directions โ€” it too had detonated.

Stained with Great Emperor Wushi’s blood, itself an immortal ascension artifact โ€” though incomplete โ€” its might remained unfathomably vast. Add to that the fact that both the Void Great Emperor and Ye Fan had driven it simultaneously before it came crashing down, its divine power was peerlessly world-shaking.

Yet after crashing into the skull of a supreme being, the cauldron itself also disintegrated. This fact alone spoke to how invincible the Emperors and Sovereigns of former times had been โ€” even in such a devastated condition, they remained stronger than any could believe, defying all imagination.

One-third of the immortal ascension cauldron โ€” gathered with such difficulty and at such cost โ€” was thus destroyed in this battle, fragmenting once more.

Yet Ye Fan felt not the slightest pang of regret. As long as it could kill a supreme being, never mind the Green Copper Cauldron โ€” even if his own body were to explode, it would not matter.

Terrifying green immortal rain flew in all four directions. The Void Great Emperor staggered, several shards piercing through his body, leaving him soaked in blood.

Ye Fan was stunned. The Void Great Emperor had not avoided it โ€” clearly, in blocking the Samsara Sovereign’s full transcendence just moments before, he had paid an immense price. Now his true form was crippled, on the verge of death itself.

This filled him with dread โ€” not for himself, but for all living beings. If even the Void Great Emperor no longer had the power to fight, there was truly no hope remaining.

A dazzling light erupted. After the Samsara Sovereign’s skull was shattered, it transformed into a mass of flame burning brilliantly, blazing furiously, cutting through the dark universe, making this place look terrible beyond all description.

Had a true supreme being perished? This would surely be an event that shook through all eternity.

Someone had slaughtered a being of this caliber โ€” it was destined to be recorded in the annals of history, its brilliance to illuminate through ten thousand ages, forever to be remembered. An event of such magnitude was staggering in its impact on the heart and mind.

In the Dark Age โ€” to slay a supreme being, to bathe in the glorious radiance of that supreme blood โ€” destined to cut through eternity itself, to be inscribed in remembrance forever.

Yet the Void Great Emperor’s own condition was dire. To prevent the Samsara Sovereign from returning to his Emperor throne, he had sent too many chains of order flying forth โ€” his cultivation, his essence of spirit and energy.

These were the Great Dao fragments within his blood โ€” the essence substance that allowed him to live and remain powerful in this age, the fundamental source enabling him to fight here at all โ€” and he had consumed too much.

His body staggered, unable to stand steadily. Everything he had done was for the purpose of striking down the Samsara Sovereign. He had no choice.

“Great Emperor!” Ye Fan cried out in sorrow.

Without stopping the Samsara Sovereign’s full transcendence, this world would have necessarily submitted beneath his feet with no one able to restrain him. Even though he himself would have eventually died, the destruction he could wreak before that moment would have been enough to obliterate all hope.

“It’s nothing!” the Void steadied his mind and body, straightening his spine once more. Though unable to conceal his exhaustion, his eyes radiated light again โ€” battle intent surging, fixing his gaze upon what lay ahead.

The Samsara Sovereign’s skull had been shattered, and his body was in tatters โ€” yet in this moment, it gave a single shudder and stood upright, emitting a cold and chilling voice: “Wanting to kill me is not that simple!”

His primordial spirit was within his torso โ€” not wholly extinguished. The extreme transcendence he had seemingly been about to employ moments before was nothing but a bluff: it had merely been a stratagem to abandon his skull in order to survive.

“Void, you are finished. To deal with me, to prevent me from returning to the Emperor’s throne, you have already self-destructed. How much longer can you fight?!” The Samsara Sovereign’s laughter was cruel.

“You…” Ye Fan’s heart turned cold. He had been deceived. Clearly what he had witnessed was the Samsara Sovereign beginning his extreme transcendence โ€” had he not stopped it, the Samsara Sovereign would have transformed into a true Emperor. Yet it turned out none of it was real.

Are ancient supreme beings all this unbearably powerful? It drove one to despair. So great a price paid, and still could not kill him โ€” so what was left to fight with?

At this moment, Ye Fan’s heart was filled with shadow. For the first time he felt the greyness of it all โ€” heaven and earth all around him so cold, so brutal. After such a harrowing battle โ€” not a single supreme being slain.

Unwillingness, fury, greyness โ€” none of these words were sufficient to express the state of his mind. But this was the cruel reality: every single ancient supreme being was peerless, next to impossible to kill.

“What do you take me for? You โ€” an insect, a corpse-shell of a non-Emperor Void โ€” you want to kill me? Go cultivate for another hundred thousand years!”

The Samsara Sovereign reformed his skull. His primordial spirit burned strong and vigorously. He gazed down upon all under heaven with contempt, standing in the starry sky โ€” the sight of him enough to drive men to despair.

“I am unwilling!” Ye Fan cried out.

“What is a supreme being? Unrivaled under heaven, peerless in the world โ€” having once ruled the universe. The likes of you wanting to kill me is not yet sufficient!” The Samsara Sovereign mocked.

“Then come again!” Ye Fan roared in fury, holding the Wushi Scripture, shaking a handful of blood from the treasure vial โ€” ready to fight him to the death, even if it meant mutual annihilation.

Yet in this very moment, the Void Great Emperor shook his head and said: “There is no need!”

“You…” The Samsara Sovereign suddenly let out a great roar. He sensed something was wrong. The Void Great Emperor’s essence of spirit, energy, and cultivation had not dissipated โ€” it had not been destroyed in the explosion just now. It still clung within the very bones of the Samsara Sovereign.

“Ahh…”

The Samsara Sovereign screamed in agony. Above, the Void Great Emperor’s Immortal Mirror trembled โ€” stained with the blood of no fewer than one supreme being across its existence, arguably more than any in all the ages of eternity, its connection to the divine and to heaven was profound. In this moment it transformed into a blazing sun and pressed down, resonating with the Void’s cultivation and essence of spirit and energy that clung to the Samsara Sovereign’s bones.

The Samsara Sovereign screamed and struggled with all his strength โ€” yet could change nothing. Not even the several supreme beings in the distance came to his rescue, for they all knew: he was finished.

Attempting to forcibly initiate extreme transcendence had become utterly impossible. His primordial spirit had ultimately been shattered in part by the Green Copper Cauldron’s strike. Now, his body was flooded with the Void’s Dao edicts.

The Immortal Mirror trembled. With a sharp sound, the Samsara Sovereign’s body and mind convulsed together, then began to disintegrate โ€” then to burn โ€” and finally exploded utterly. This time, he truly perished.

His primordial spirit was shattered to dust. The last surge of essence blood within his body rose up, then rained down, landing upon the Emperor Mirror. The Emperor blood upon the ancient mirror increased by one more kind and was completely absorbed into it.

The divine mirror grew ever more ancient-looking โ€” carrying an ineffable, indescribable quality.

From far away, the hearts of the remaining supreme beings each grew cold. Witnessing a peer disintegrate โ€” struck down and killed โ€” was a profound shock even to them.

All of them were those who had achieved the Dao, once unrivaled above heaven and earth. Yet today, two among them had had victory and defeat settled โ€” life and death determined โ€” and it moved them deeply.

“Since the battle of the primordial ancient age, another supreme being has been struck down in such a manner!”

“That ancient mirror is growing ever more mysterious. I believe it has the hope in the future of breaking into the Immortal Realm.” The Stone Emperor looked at things differently from the others โ€” where others focused on the Void himself, he had fixed his gaze on that ancient mirror.

The Void Great Emperor’s body swayed. He seemed to have aged ten thousand years in an instant โ€” his eyes had grown somewhat dim. Having engaged five supreme beings in great battle, and then extinguishing the Samsara Sovereign โ€” the price he had paid was far too immense.

Now, his cultivation had mostly vanished, his essence of spirit and energy was depleted, and he could no longer hold on, unable to continue fighting.

“At this point, let us see what you have left to fight with!” the Light-Dark Supreme said coldly.

The several supreme beings pressed forward, closing in. And in this moment, the Eternal Universe Great Emperor was both fighting and drawing closer, seeking to meet the enemy alongside the Void and knowing the Void could no longer hold on.

“Roar!”

Ye Fan howled in fury, the Wushi Scripture in his hand sweeping out beams of light in rapid succession, targeting those pressing forward, as Wushi’s laws blazed across the sky and swept toward the ancient supreme beings.

“Use whatever effective laws and power you have to kill the enemy โ€” waste not a single drop for my sake. Before long, I will return to the eternal silence of the void.” The Void Great Emperor spoke with calm.

Ye Fan’s heart was bitter and sour, feeling utterly powerless. He could not accept this outcome. Why was killing a single supreme being so desperately difficult?

“All of them were once Emperors and Sovereigns. A grueling battle was to be expected. The Void’s life โ€” his hands have been stained with the blood of supreme beings throughout. To die in battle is his destiny โ€” and the finest ending for him.” The Void spoke.

“For the sake of all living beings, what wrong is there in bathing in their blood? This is glory that shakes through ten thousand ages โ€” it will be remembered for eternity!” Ye Fan roared aloud.

“See the Void on his way!” The several supreme beings spoke with cold indifference, pressing forward in pursuit of the kill.

This was the most terrible battle of all. Ye Fan had fought to this point โ€” a person others called an “insect” โ€” and to have achieved what he had was already worthy. He had delivered a most critical strike in the death of the Samsara Sovereign. And so in this moment, he was truly without fear โ€” even if he died right now, it would matter nothing. He charged recklessly forward.

In his hand, the Wushi Scripture blazed with light, dazzling and resplendent, as various Imperial Dao laws danced through the air, striking the several supreme beings time and again until blood sprayed ten thousand feet high.

Meanwhile, the Eternal Universe Great Emperor was embroiled in a life-or-death battle of desperate straits โ€” the fierce and savage fighting was intense. The Void’s wounds meant that the pressure on the Eternal Universe had grown even greater, and in this moment, the Emperor weapons also raged, all of them going berserk and charging forward in furious assault.

This place had descended into the most terrifying warfare and chaos โ€” a sight too grievous to behold!

Emperor blood swirled through the air, dyeing the universe red.

“Do not waste even a single strand of power for my sake!” The Void Great Emperor reminded them once more.

Ye Fan still had one thing left that he wanted to unleash โ€” but he held it back. With tears in his eyes he saw the Void on his way, knowing that this peerless and great Emperor of ten thousand ages was about to set out on that final road.

“Void, what do you have left to fight with now?” The Light-Dark Supreme laughed coldly.

The Stone Emperor was even more direct โ€” the great halberd in his hand swept down directly, intent on personally severing the Void Great Emperor’s head, to settle the ancient grudge between the Undying Mountains and the Void from the primordial ancient age.

“My blood has run dry. My spirit and energy are weak. But I still have my Dao-bones โ€” why should I fear a battle!” The Void roared with great fury.

That roar contained the unyielding defiance and unwillingness of a human race Great Emperor. He needed the power of his peak days โ€” but regrettably, this was no longer the primordial ancient age. He had lost that level of battle power.

Boom!

In this moment, the Void Great Emperor’s flesh and blood burst open. One by one, crystalline Dao-bones flew out, transforming into indestructible immortal light that surged toward the four supreme beings.

Emperor-bones as weapons โ€” above all, branded with the Void Great Emperor’s indestructible imprint, filled with the cry of defiance and unyielding will. His skeleton blazed with light, burning one bone after another โ€” like weapon after weapon, Emperor artifact after Emperor artifact โ€” charging toward the Stone Emperor, the Light-Dark Supreme, and the others.

This was a battle refusing to yield to fate. This was a Great Emperor’s final strike with his last remaining strength. Even when his own body could no longer hold on, he still resolutely and decisively sacrificed his own Dao-bones.

The blood had already run dry. In the end, even his Dao-bones were offered up โ€” fighting until death, without a single strand of strength remaining!

This place plunged into an era of great destruction. Everything was shattered to pieces โ€” light of all kinds swirling through the air, immortal Dao laws trembling, the several supreme beings roaring as they blocked this final strike from the Void Great Emperor at death’s door.

The crystalline Dao-bones detonated, burning to ash…

“Ahh…” Ye Fan shrieked out, charging forward with every last thing he had.

The Eternal Universe Great Emperor fought in blood, dyeing this place red. Four supreme beings were all stained with blood, wounded by the Emperor-bones, fighting back desperately, seeking to consume the Void’s last remaining flesh and blood.

The Immortal Mirror wailed in sorrow. Watching the Void Great Emperor collapse powerlessly, it erupted with blinding light, sending out wave after wave of mournful cries โ€” as if in self-protection โ€” launching its own assault on this place.

This ferocious battle โ€” heaven collapsed, earth shattered, ghosts wept and gods howled. The Stone Emperor was nearly crippled entirely, his primordial spirit suffering severe damage. The Light-Dark Supreme lost an arm.

The Master of the Divine Ruins and the Heaven-Forsaking Supreme โ€” their weapons shattered. It was too brutal, too devastating.

No one had anticipated it: in the instant the Void collapsed backward and fell, the mirror and his Dao-bones together would possess such supreme divine power โ€” grievously wounding no fewer than one supreme being, as thoughๆŸ“ไธŠไบ† immortal Dao laws had taken hold.

Now, the Emperor-bones were entirely shattered. And the mirror too had been half-destroyed โ€” unable to withstand the assault of four supreme beings. As it cracked their weapons, it itself was half-ruined.

Mirror shards sparkled โ€” half had fallen upon the Void Great Emperor’s body. The other half retained the mirror’s form, still emanating undying radiance, still letting out a low and mournful, wailing cry.

In this moment, all living beings throughout the entire universe were shaken to their core. Through the collective consciousness of all living things, they came to know the outcome, and none could hold back their grief.

“It is too hateful โ€” why could we not have had the Void Great Emperor in his peak? Why must he drag this broken shell of a body and wage a battle that was never going to be won?”

“The Void Great Emperor has fallen in battle… Heaven has no eyes!”

Throughout the universe, countless star domains rang with cries of sorrow. All living beings wept in anguish. In this moment, the sound spread throughout heaven and earth โ€” everywhere, nothing but the sound of grief.

On the battlefield, half of the Void Mirror drifted slowly through the air, guarding the Void Great Emperor’s remains as it drifted toward the depths of the universe. Its low, mournful cry left hearts cold and unbearably bitter โ€” tears could not be held back.

The several supreme beings regarded the mirror with wariness and did not immediately give chase, only watching from a distance as the Void Great Emperor’s blood-stained body โ€” no longer entirely intact โ€” drifted away. Only half of it remained.

For the Void’s bones had almost all flown outward to kill the enemy, and now, lacking their support, even his once-Emperor body had grown somewhat formless, and was covered in wounds โ€” his flesh and blood a wretched, blood-soaked ruin.

Recalling the primordial ancient age โ€” those years of proud struggle โ€” fighting alone through an entire era, a life full of hardship. Though he had driven the seven great forbidden zones of life into silence, his own blood had been spilled across ten thousand years in the process, until he grew old, until he fell in battle.

An entire life of blood and war โ€” blood spilled across the great forbidden zones of life, leaving behind his magnificent record of achievement, yet consuming all the time of his entire life.

Until the very last, in the twilight of his years, still fighting until death โ€” burying himself in the starry sky, still enduring blood and fire even as his funeral song played, taking two supreme beings down the road of death with him.

Such was the life of the Void Great Emperor โ€” he never lived a second life. His entire existence was spent bringing peace to the dark turmoil, until he fell in battle.

And now, in this age โ€” summoned by all living beings โ€” he had appeared once more!

He fought… and fought… and ultimately could no longer muster the battle power of former days. Yet just as he had in the past, he gave that last remaining measure of strength. The blood ran dry. The Dao-bones exploded.

Like this… he fell in battle.

This was his end.

Half a broken mirror accompanying the Void Great Emperor’s ravaged body โ€” drifting away, drifting away, buried at last in the boundless void…
