Those shockwaves were terrifying beyond the extreme. In an instant the blood-light illuminated more than half the cosmos. The void and heavenly stars were all bathed in crimson by the scarlet aurora โ as if a colossal blood-sun were erupting, its red light occupying half the cosmos.
A great Emperor-level individual had exploded. Blood splashed across the age. The divine power was beyond all comparison. That stretch of cosmic outer reaches was destroyed, star systems dimming and being annihilated into void.
This was an unimaginable great calamity. The living beings throughout the eight wastelands of the cosmos all shuddered in dread. It was an unspeakable, vast terror โ as though even their very souls were about to shatter.
Powerful divine sense waves pulsed from within the life forbidden zones, capturing the true result of the battle.
The next instant, the entire cosmos seemed to freeze, sinking into a deathly stillness with no sound at all. The ten thousand things withered.
Dead? Had a supreme expert of the imperial Dao thus reached his end โ shattering to pieces from the most glorious pinnacle and walking toward his final moment? That was the question in every person’s mind.
“Boom!”
Suddenly, blood-light shot straight through the nine heavens. Great Emperor-level waves shook the world. All that boundless blood-light and vivid, searing scarlet aurora reversed in an instant, flowing backward and reforming the Emperor’s body.
With a tremendous reverberating crash โ as though some primal ancestor god of chaos were opening heaven and earth, struggling free โ the waves of life shook the primordial heaven and earth into fierce trembling, the sun, moon, and stars all swaying without cease.
“The Emperor battle… has not yet ended โ a Flawless sovereign of the imperial Dao cannot be extinguished!”
Some speculated that it might have been a deliberate self-detonation, to reverse a losing situation. The Emperor body’s fortitude knew no limits โ truly detonating it would release a force too immense to imagine, unthinkable.
For a great Emperor-level individual to be this ferocious โ it made one’s hair stand on end!
“It is the Heaven-Forsaking Supreme. He is at a disadvantage, retreating through endless star systems, driven far to the outer reaches of the cosmos โ and forced to resort to this.”
People’s hearts rose to their throats, uncertain whether that white-clothed woman had been injured. A great Emperor detonating his own body โ employing such a fierce method simply to try to reverse a losing position.
The battle continued. The force of transcendence split the cosmos, growing stronger than ever โ illuminating the universe, dazzling and resplendent.
From this, people understood that the Female Emperor was likely not greatly affected; otherwise she could not maintain such momentum, unwavering from first to last. This was the bearing of one who was unrivaled under heaven.
This battle was fought until the primordial cosmos collapsed, stars were ground to dust, and even some life ancient lands were affected.
The Heaven-Forsaking Supreme, in order to replenish his blood energy, ruthlessly pushed the battlefield toward these directions โ cold-blooded and heartless, turning two life stars into fields of blood, reducing them to cosmic dust.
But he had only these two opportunities. He was then driven into the Heavenly Lord battlefield of the age of myths โ a place where supreme figures of the imperial Dao had once clashed. It was said that in the age of myths, multiple Emperors coexisted!
Here there was no radiance, no vitality, no intact rivers of stars โ everywhere there were star fragments, and also colossal corpses more vast than entire star domains.
The two fought, heaven crumbling and earth splitting, ghosts wailing and gods howling, with all manner of terrifying and strange events occurring. In particular, this Heavenly Lord battlefield from the age of myths had a torrential downpour of blood-rain, and one black lightning bolt after another cut across the sky, with peal after peal of violent thunder.
Dimly, countless heavenly soldiers and generals could be seen, and vast legions of underworld soldiers crossing the star domain in formation, embarking on some distant campaign โ though to where was unknown.
Yet in this Emperor battle, none of it mattered. Every omen and eerie scene would be ground away. From the stellar wasteland ruins erupted a sky-piercing radiance.
Boom!
Once more blood-light shot to the heavens, blood splashing across the cosmos. The Heavenly Lord battlefield of the age of myths underwent a great collapse. Some of the colossal corpses exploded into flying ash.
The Heaven-Forsaking Supreme detonated again. Blood-light surged like a sea โ vast and surging, covering an unknown number of light-years โ horrifying the mortal world.
A true great Emperor battle, fought to this point, was genuinely earthshaking. The intensity was beyond all comparison โ it had never been seen before, something people would not dare even imagine.
For the human body to possess such tremendous power โ if this continued, the cosmos could truly be destroyed. It was an endless storm, sweeping through all things, unstoppable.
“Dead?”
“Can the dark upheaval end now?”
Yet not long after, the great Emperor waves continued, erupting with a supremely powerful life aura. The sovereign of the imperial Dao once again reconstituted the Supreme Body and re-entered the battle.
This difficult โ he almost seemed to possess an indestructible body. A truly Flawless great Emperor was far too powerful. Killing one was genuinely beyond all difficulty.
In the half-hour that followed, the Heaven-Forsaking Supreme detonated four times in total. The last few were the result of being blasted apart by the force of transcendence โ struck apart and killed into shattered bone and blood, even his Primordial Spirit exploding.
In the end, he finally perished, unable to resist any further, unable to outlast this lifetime.
That day, everywhere erupted with cheers. They rose to the heavens, reverberating through the sea of stars โ the unified thoughts of all living beings, gathering together into a vast and magnificent wave.
And the Stone Emperor?
Afterward, people seemed to hear the sounds of great battle once more, or perhaps it was only the clamor of the people themselves. In the end all they saw was a great cocoon traversing the sky, flying past one life ancient land after another.
When all grew calm at last โ no more war, no more turbulence, the blood gradually dispersing, the darkness driven away, revealing the first light of dawn โ a tall silhouette appeared like a demon-lord, so overbearing that the heavens seemed about to crack. An aura of breathless power emanated from him as he walked through one stellar wasteland and battlefield after another, surveying the ruins.
“Is the Stone Emperor dead? Did that woman fall back into slumber after the battle? I am still alive โ I must survive and live on!”
He was of the Great Completion Hegemon Body. His thick, dense hair hung loose like a cascade. His gaze was fearsome. He walked through the star systems, pursuing the blood left behind by the Supreme Beings, and searching as well for the half-remnant corpse of the Void Great Emperor โ this battle had left behind too much, and much of it was what he needed.
In the end, he too disappeared!
With this, the dark upheaval came to a close. The most terrifying bloodshed and great calamity in all of history ended here. The time it lasted was astoundingly brief โ far shorter than had been anticipated.
And yet, it had truly left behind too much grief.
“It is over โ finally past. The dark age of blood and tears has ended!”
“The great calamity is over โ we are still alive!”
From everywhere came cheers rising to the clouds, celebrating surviving this end of days. Every person was moved to the extreme. Truly, surviving had not been easy.
All were survivors of catastrophe. All drew great gasping breaths, and then shouted to the heavens with all their might โ and only then could they begin to appreciate the value of life. Being alive was better than anything.
People gave full release to their emotions, crying out with all their strength, expressing what lay in their hearts.
And at the end, when the cheering and excitement subsided and people gradually grew quiet, the atmosphere of sorrow and desolation began to spread. Gradually, the sound of weeping drifted through.
“Wuuu…”
Too many people had died in this upheaval. One life ancient land after another had turned crimson. Corpses piled across the earth in heaps upon heaps, higher than mountains, wider than seas.
“Child โ where are you? Come back and look at Mother…” A white-haired old woman wept with heartbroken anguish, her whole body stained with blood. She fell sitting on the ground, feeling utterly cold throughout.
“Father โ please don’t die. I beg you โ you must survive.” A frail young girl shook a body with all her might, yet the man only had blood flowing from his lips, his eyes dimming. With great effort he reached out his hand, touched her face โ and then his head fell, his voice forever stilled.
“Mother โ don’t sleep anymore. Get up โ please get up!” A child of three or four years wept loudly, clutching the arm of a body already long cold, eyes brimming with tears.
And these were but a glimpse of the human tragedy โ everywhere, it was the same. Not just one star domain, but spread across vast reaches of the cosmos โ cold winds and bloodied rain, grief clouds and sorrow.
This battle had cost too much. Many outstanding heroes had left their white bones in foreign lands. Though they had no great Emperor power, they had charged toward outer domains to fight, and their blood had scattered across the star sea.
In truth, many had never even approached the battlefield before they exploded, becoming blood and bone โ powerless, their final act one last defiant roar. There were many such people, who had seen the Void dimmed and the Boundless Universe drenched in blood, who had witnessed the desolation of Gai Jiuyou and rushed forward without heed for their lives. Though they had made no difference, they had ignited the fire of unyielding will in all living beings.
“What a pity โ too many have been lost. A weight too heavy to bear. So many tragedies.” The great black dog was despondent, lamenting from the star sea, somewhat depressed and listless, slowly drifting away.
The Void Mirror shattered. The Supreme Emperor Sword broke. The Nine Underworld Map split. The Western Emperor Pagoda was left incomplete. The Boundless Universe Furnace exploded…
From this day forward, almost all of the imperial weapons in the cosmos were destroyed. Too much pain and grief was left behind. The price paid was too immense to endure.
The star domains affected by the Supreme Beings’ great battle were too vast, similarly causing a terrible blood calamity. The glories of former days appeared so pale against the light of this one day.
Weeping spread through the cosmos. Ji Ziyue, dressed all in white mourning clothes, carried a basket of pure white flowers. Weeping all the way, she scattered them as she went โ petal after crystalline petal drifting in the air, mingling with the blood mist among the battlefield ruins.
“Ye Fan…” she murmured, lost and dazed.
The Divine King Ji Haoyue’s eyes had turned red as well. The people they must mourn were many โ not only the Void Great Emperor, not only Ye Fan, but also the young ancestor Ji Zi. They had all gone, one by one.
All of the Ji Family had come. Every survivor wept in grief without exception.
“Find the remains โ even if it is a single bone, a single drop of blood!” Ji Haoyue said with great difficulty.
Ji Ziyue wiped her tears, but they would soon well up again, crystalline and falling. Her heart ached deeply. She scattered the white petals and walked silently toward the distance, searching all the way.
Jiang Yifei had come as well, crying out in sorrow that shook the heavens. He led the people of the Jiang clan here to hold their memorial, filled with grief and mourning. The White-Clothed Divine King had died in his stead โ at the critical moment pushing him aside, leaving him the hope of survival.
All the great heritages came โ undying imperial dynasties, holy lands, powerful clans. Some stood in silence, some cried out in grief. How many imperial weapons were buried here, never to appear again.
The people of Heavenly Village came as well, searching everywhere. They would turn one battlefield after another upside down, treading across the outer reaches of the cosmos, crying out in anguish.
“Ye Fan, Senior Gai, Divine King Jiang, Ji Zi โ come back to life! Don’t die!” Li Heishui’s eyes were bloodshot as he cried out madly and searched in these places.
“Divine Son โ where are you? I believe you are alive for certain and will come back!” Little Sparrow wept greatly, tears falling without cease.
“Master!” Ye Tong cried out in a long howl, his face heavy with grief, tears rolling down. It was Ye Fan who had taken him in all those years ago, had fought the Golden Crow clan in a blood battle and taken him away โ giving him the man he was today.
Too many people had come. All were despondent. The battlefield was too vast, encompassing so many star domains. They searched tirelessly, without fatigue.
“Void Great Emperor, Boundless Universe Great Emperor…” Countless races came to pay their respects here, deeply reverent, full of sorrow and grief.
The dark upheaval โ the ending of a great blood calamity โ had left behind too much grief, making hearts bitter.
“Ye Fan! Ji Zi!”
The Sacred Prince roared aloud, his entire body of golden fur standing on end. He was consumed with hatred. Two brothers with whom he had once fought shoulder to shoulder โ now only he remained.
“I truly want to level the great life forbidden zones!” Dongfang Ye roared in fury.
Wave after wave of people arrived โ mourning the dead, mourning the imperial weapons, mourning this battle, mourning this entire lifetime. A burial ground of blood and bone, a battlefield where lives found their rest โ desolate and bleak.
Ye Tong, Hua Hua, and Little Sparrow searched for a full hundred years, hoping to find even a single bone of Ye Fan’s, a single drop of blood โ but in the end, all were disappointed.
The Myriad Mother’s Cauldron Ye Fan had left behind in Heavenly Village was inherited by no one, used by no one โ and in the end was buried in the memorial tomb built only for his belongings, containing no body.
