Ni Yin Qi Le Wo De Zhu Yi – Chapter 59

Seeing no way to escape, Tan Yin could only bite the bullet and stammer out an apology. “It’s just that you didn’t tell me you were researching all this, leaving me in the dark about it. And Zhang Chen kept saying you were frequently contacting Annaโ€”with all those details, how could I not start overthinking it?”

“I was contacting Anna because I was asking her to use her advantage of being in America to help reach Professor Weistling. Actually getting in touch with him successfully was largely thanks to her help. In all our back-and-forth emails, aside from the actual matter at hand, nothing else came up.”

Chu Hang paused. “I didn’t tell you at first because I was afraid nothing would come of it, and I didn’t want to get your hopes up only to disappoint you. I didn’t want you to be upset. I wanted to try to handle it myself first, and if I actually managed to work something out with Professor Weistling, then surprise you with the result.”

Alright, Tan Yin thought, so she really had misjudged Chu Hang after all. Still, despite being touched, deep down she couldn’t help feeling a little botheredโ€”other girls were fine, but when it came to Anna specifically, Tan Yin always felt a bit uneasy. Though she knew Anna and Zhang Chen were now an item, Anna had once liked Chu Hangโ€”or at least had feelings for him that went beyond friendship. Tan Yin still remembered the way Anna used to look at him.

This was probably what liking someone did to a personโ€”it made you petty. You knew logically there was nothing to it, but you still couldn’t help minding, still felt like someone had forced a sour orange into your chest.

Not wanting to seem narrow-minded, Tan Yin used Zhang Chen as an excuse instead. “You… you should probably contact Anna less from now on. Zhang Chen might get jealous, after all…”

Chu Hang glanced at her, seemingly unconcerned. “The truthful need not fear. Zhang Chen will understand once he flies to America this summer and sees Anna in person. It’s fine.”

“Anyway, we owe Anna our thanks for helping us reach Professor Weistling. Since it’s my situation, let me thank her directly myself.”

Chu Hang studied her carefully for a moment, then broke into a smile. “No need. Your business is my business. I’ll just thank her on your behalf.”

…

Tan Yin was practically speechless with frustration. This was exactly what she didn’t wantโ€”Chu Hang having more contact with Annaโ€”and yet he seemed completely unfazed by it. What a double standard! She thought, she and Zhou Ming were completely innocent friends, and yet Chu Hang was jealous to the point of near-death every time. Whenever they went out to eat together, Chu Hang would fix Zhou Ming with such a wary stare that Zhou Ming had complained to her more than once about the immense psychological pressure of being under Chu Hang’s “death glare.” And yet when it came to himself, this man had absolutely no clue what she was hinting at?! First he hadn’t told her about asking Anna for help because he was afraid of disappointing her if it didn’t work out, and now he was going to thank her personally without even a thought toward avoiding the appearance of improprietyโ€”what on earth?

“I think I should be the one to thank her instead, because I was thinking, since Anna might have had feelings for you before, if you go thank her yourself for helping with my situation, wouldn’t that give her the wrong idea?”

This time Chu Hang finally looked up, genuinely surprised. “How could Anna possibly like me?” He even let out a small laugh, unable to resist reaching out to tousle Tan Yin’s hair. “What on earth goes through your head?”

Better she never knows. Best she never spends her whole life aware of how other girls feel about him. Tan Yin’s heart felt a mix of sour, sweet, and swollen all at once. Normally she was someone who loved sharing things, but when it came to Chu Hang alone, she felt an almost stubborn possessiveness. Only Chu Hangโ€”she wouldn’t give him to anyone else. Not even a little. He was hers, entirely hers.

But blocked by his response, she found herself unable to argue further. Still, thinking about Chu Hang continuing to contact Anna made her face show a bit of a pout.

It was probably time to send Chu Hang to some kind of husband-training class, to teach him how to be a properly loyal man!

Tan Yin walked in silence for a moment, then felt the grip of Chu Hang’s fingers on hers tighten.

He stopped, looking at her. “Tan Yin, what exactly are you trying to say?”

Tan Yin bit her lip, then decided to just go for it. “Stop contacting Anna!”

Having worked herself into such a state, she’d expected some kind of reaction, but Chu Hang remained perfectly composed. “Why?”

“Because… because I don’t like it! Because it makes me jealous!”

Tan Yin raised her voice, practically shouting the words out in a burst of frustration, but the reaction she’d been expecting from Chu Hang never came.

He wasn’t impatient, wasn’t confused, and didn’t think she was overreactingโ€”instead, he… he smiled.

Before Tan Yin could react, she was pulled into a warm, broad embrace. Still holding her like that, Chu Hang leaned down and kissed her cheek slowly, thoroughly, lingering, then trailed down, not even sparing her delicate earlobe, gentle yet unyieldingly insistent, kissing his way down inch by inch.

“I’m happy when you’re like this.”

Chu Hang’s lips and breath were right there at Tan Yin’s ear, that warm, moist breath and the faint hum in his voice suddenly amplified beyond measureโ€”she could make out every subtle nuance in the tail end of his voice with perfect clarity.

He stayed there against her ear, letting out a low, sultry chuckle. “Every time you get jealous, it makes me happy.”

Tan Yin, utterly disarmed by Chu Hang’s series of kisses, felt as though the pressure-point techniques she’d read about in martial arts novelsโ€”the ones that left people limp and unable to resistโ€”might actually be real. She was held tight in his arms, completely defenseless.

Chu Hang’s voice carried a note of deep satisfaction and pleasure. “Don’t put on a brave face from now on. Don’t lie. If you’re jealous, say so. Don’t make me force it out of you every time until you’re honest. If you want to put your claim on me, go ahead, claim all of meโ€”whatever you want, as long as you tell me. Tan Yin, don’t bottle everything up inside. You can tell me boldly that you’re unhappy, that you mind me contacting Anna.”

“But that makes me seem so petty and narrow-minded…”

“But that’s what being in love is.” Chu Hang laughed, wrapping his arms around her waist. “I like it when you’re petty.”

Fine… fine then… Tan Yin thought, blushing, her heart racingโ€”if he liked it this much, how could she not indulge his taste?

“So don’t complain later that I’m too controlling…”

“I won’t.” Chu Hang kissed her forehead again, his eyes burning and sincere. “I like being controlled by you.”

This guy, Chu Hang, how could he be so smooth! Tan Yin felt like there really might be something wrong with the electromagnetic field between her and himโ€”they seemed to genuinely have quite the chemistry…

Just as she’d muttered this thought to him, Chu Hang leaned in close to her ear againโ€”

“So it seems heaven meant for us to be together. As for Anna liking me, as you said, I really don’t have the capacity to sense that anymore. Maybe after being electrocuted, my factory settings got rewritten, and I’ve become completely insulated from feelings for anyone else.”

Chu Hang glanced at her, then added with a smile, “Though conducting electricity with you seems to still work fine.”

Conducting was an understatement, Tan Yin thoughtโ€”the amount of electricity between her and Chu Hang could probably power an entire power plant!

Ever since Chu Hang told her about Professor Weistling’s research findings and theory, Tan Yin felt like she’d swallowed a reassurance pillโ€”she was finally no longer so anxious and resistant about her storm-induced invisibility.

These past few months, as if heaven had drawn back a curtain, there hadn’t just been no thunderstormsโ€”there hadn’t even been overcast days. Day after day of brilliant sunshine, much like the mood between Tan Yin and Chu Hang.

Tan Yin had once heard an older cousin say that you should treasure the first month of a new relationship, because the novelty and passion only had about a month’s shelf life. During that month, couples would want to be glued together every second, saying the cheesiest sweet nothings without a hint of embarrassment, utterly infatuated, seeing only good in each other. But once that month passed, incompatibilities in personality, everyday friction, mismatches in values would gradually start to show, and suddenly everything about the other person seemed to have some flaw. The intensity would fade, and arguments would beginโ€”this was the so-called adjustment period. Get through it, and the relationship would stabilize; fail to get through it, and you’d be doomed to the fate of a one-month breakup.

But Tan Yin found this rule didn’t apply to her at all. Being with Chu Hang, every minute felt fresh, every minute felt sweet. The two of them had visited nearly every trendy couple-photo spot in City A, watched movies together, read books together, eaten meals together, drawn together, built models together, held hands, kissed… Chu Hang had even “forcibly commandeered” Zhou Ming’s electric scooter, insisting on riding Tan Yin around campus on it, circling around multiple times as if publicly announcing it to the whole world…

Not until this thunderstorm, the first in a while, did Tan Yin count on her fingers and realize it had already been well over a month since they’d gotten togetherโ€”yet the intensity of their romance hadn’t diminished at all. If anything, it felt like she liked Chu Hang a little more with every passing minute.

That fox-spirit of a man really did have a certain irresistible charm.

Most days, Chu Hang and Tan Yin spent their time together, but today’s storm happened to coincide with the registration period for the Hopp Cup International University Student Architecture Design Competition, so Zhu Kangmei had called Chu Hang into her office, urging him to participate and going over the details with him. This left Tan Yin on her own, with nothing to do, so she headed to the little stone pavilion in the garden behind the library to doodle.

Ever since being caught by Chu Hang and clearing up their misunderstanding, Tan Yin had stopped updating her webcomic, posted an apology announcement, and then thrown herself into studying insteadโ€”these days, whatever she picked up her pen to draw was buildings, buildings, and more buildings. She hadn’t drawn comics in a long time. Today, with some free time, she suddenly felt a spark of new creative inspiration, and picking up her sketchbook, she couldn’t help but start drawing in the little stone pavilion.

The storm began just as she was engrossed in sketching a character. Fortunately, there was no one else around the pavilion, so when the rain started, Tan Yin was able to calmly pack up her paper and pens into her bag, tuck the bag into the bushes near the pavilion, and text Chu Hang, asking him to come pick her up once he finished with Zhu Kangmei.

“Ten minutes.”

Almost the instant she sent the text, Chu Hang replied.

Tan Yin couldn’t help but laugh the moment she saw the reply. Though it was just three brief words, she found them sweeter than any flowery declaration of love.

Zhu Kangmei’s office was about a seven or eight minute walk from the little pavilionโ€”ten minutes meant Chu Hang would need two extra minutes to quickly wrap up his conversation with Zhu Kangmei. Just imagining it made Tan Yin want to laughโ€”she could just picture Zhu Kangmei still going on and on right now, with no idea that his star student was already mentally strategizing how to end the conversation as fast as possible.

Just thinking about it made her giggle. She put her phone away, glanced at the rain outside the pavilion, and settled in to wait quietly.

But the quiet didn’t last long. Before too much time passed, a girl came dashing into the pavilion, holding her bag over her head, clearly caught without an umbrella.

The girl had a round, cute face, delicate and petite, not especially beautiful but with a quality that made you feel comfortable being near her without quite knowing why. Her eyes were round too, like a gentle little deer’s, giving Tan Yin the vague sense that she looked familiar.

The girl patted the raindrops off her hair and clothes, then stood in the pavilion looking out at the rain, though she seemed to have something on her mind. After a moment, she began pacing back and forth in the pavilion, her sweet face showing signs of worry and inner conflict. She seemed to be holding something in, and eventually, unable to hold back any longer, she pulled out her phone and made a call.

It was only once she started speaking that Tan Yin remembered why the girl looked so familiar.

Tan Yin had met her beforeโ€”they’d been in the same student club together. When Tan Yin first entered A University, she’d joined the Comic Enthusiasts Association, a club that included, besides fine arts majors, anyone across the whole school with an interest in drawing comics, and this girl had once been one of them. The club atmosphere had actually been quite niceโ€”they’d regularly organize sketching sessions, hold work-sharing events, and members could get plenty of insider tickets to comic conventions. Unfortunately, being an architecture student, Tan Yin had quickly found herself buried under drafting and model-building work and had no choice but to drop out of the clubโ€”she simply had no time for those kinds of activities.

But even though she’d only briefly and intermittently participated in club activities for a single semester, this girl had left a deep impression on her. Tan Yin vaguely recalled her name was Lu Lingโ€”true to her name, everyone called her Xiao Lu. She was an incredibly gentle, kind girl, a student in the fine arts college’s illustration and comics program, but toward non-fine-arts comic enthusiasts, she’d always patiently and tirelessly explain concepts, even taking the time to help edit their drawings. If someone in the club came up with a good comic idea, Xiao Lu was always happy to discuss it and help flesh it out. She was an incredibly warm-hearted girlโ€”almost never turned down anyone who asked for her help. She was the genuine article, not the fake, performative typeโ€”there was a naturally warm quality to her, right down to the bone, that made people want to get close to her, want to trust her.

When Tan Yin had had to drop out of the club due to her coursework, Xiao Lu had still made a point to notify her whenever there were good comic-related events or tickets, always saving her a spot. She was an incredibly thoughtful and considerate person.

So what could be troubling her now?

Tan Yin found out soon enough. Though she had no intention of eavesdropping, since it was raining, her invisibility ability was evidently still in effect, and unable to see her, Xiao Lu assumed she was alone in the pavilion and made her call without any restraint, speaking quite openly.

“Ting Ting, do you think I… should I be the one to confess to him?”

“He’s about to graduate. He’s already busy job hunting and barely on campus anymore, so there aren’t many chances to run into him to begin with. I’m worried that if I don’t seize the moment now, I’ll really never have any connection with him again in the future.”

“I know he’s popular with girls, but hasn’t he never publicly had a girlfriend? He seems single too. I just… I was thinking, should I gather my courage and confess to him?”

…

From just those few sentences, Tan Yin quickly pieced together what was troubling Xiao Luโ€”she’d apparently fallen for some senior about to graduate, and was currently agonizing over whether to take the initiative and confess, unable to make up her mind, which was why she was calling her best friend during this rainy pause to seek shelter in the pavilion.

Unfortunately, her best friend clearly wasn’t in favor of the idea of confessing…

Xiao Lu listened quietly to what her friend on the other end had to say, her face showing clear disappointment and inner struggle. “Really, I shouldn’t confess? Is it always a lost cause if a girl makes the first move? Even if the guy ends up with the girl who pursued him, will he never truly value her?”

Whatever her friend answered on the other end must have been an affirmation, because Xiao Lu’s eyes drooped, clearly quite discouraged by the reply. “Alright, I get it. I won’t confess. If a guy really likes a girl, he’ll make the first move himself. He’s in the same comic club as me, and he’s even a senior in the same college, but he’s never shown any special interest in me. And now he’s a seniorโ€”even couples who are already together tend to break up upon graduation, let alone something as undefined as whatever this is between him and me… Fine, I’ll listen to you. I won’t confess. I’ll work on getting over it, hurry up and move past this, bury this crush for good…”

Xiao Lu went on a bit more, mostly listening and agreeing with her friend while also trying to talk herself into it, but Tan Yin had lost interest in listening at that point.

A senior, fine arts major, same comic clubโ€”wasn’t that exactly the comic club president, Chen Zheng?! Xiao Lu had a crush on Chen Zheng?! Xiao Lu actually liked Chen Zheng?!

Tan Yin thought, Xiao Lu really had kept this well hidden! There’d been absolutely no sign of it at all! If she hadn’t happened, by sheer coincidence, to be invisible and overhear Xiao Lu’s troubles just now, she might have thought Xiao Lu didn’t like Chen Zheng at allโ€”maybe even disliked him a little. After all, though normally warm and friendly with everyone, Xiao Lu had always been noticeably distant with Chen Zheng specificallyโ€”never eager to strike up conversation with him, and even when he came to her with something, she’d seem oddly stiff and quiet, none of her usual lively cheerfulness showing at all…

No wonderโ€”even Chen Zheng himself probably thought Xiao Lu had a bad impression of him.

And just as Tan Yin was processing this shock, Xiao Lu had already hung up the phone.

She bit her lip, still clearly quite conflicted and hesitant, different expressions crossing her face. Tan Yin could tell she really did have strong feelings for Chen Zhengโ€”even with her friend advising against confessing, she still felt deeply torn inside.

Tan Yin watched her pull out her phone and navigate to Chen Zheng’s number, then move away from it again. She just stood there blankly for a moment, then looked up at the rain falling outside the pavilion…

“Xiao Lu! Go confess to him!”

Unfortunately, Xiao Lu naturally couldn’t hear Tan Yin’s voice. She furrowed her brow again in thought, then pulled her wallet out of her bag…

Xiao Lu clearly hadn’t fully given up on the idea despite her friend’s advice. Tan Yin watched her take a coin out of her wallet, hold it in her palm, close her eyes, and make a wish on it.

“I can’t decide this myself, so I’ll leave it up to fate!”

Xiao Lu murmured this softly, then walked over to the small stone table in the pavilion. She sat down on the little stone stool, took out the coin, and prepared to flip it.

“If it lands tails, I’ll give up completely, pretend this never happened. If it lands heads, I’ll go confess. If I get rejected… well, then I’ll give up too.”

And it was at this exact moment that Tan Yin, as if sensing something, turned her head and spotted Chu Hang not far off, holding the big black umbrella he’d had custom-made just for her, walking toward the little pavilion.

Xiao Lu had finally worked up the courageโ€”she couldn’t let Chu Hang interrupt now!

Tan Yin made an instant decision, abandoning Xiao Lu in the pavilion and dashing out to meet Chu Hang.

“Chu Hang, wait right here for me a moment!”

Without waiting for his baffled reaction, Tan Yin turned and rushed hurriedly back toward the little pavilion.

Fortunately, Xiao Lu was apparently quite hesitant and conflicted about the coin flip too, so by the time Tan Yin got back to the pavilion, she caught her right as she was flipping the coin.

Probably due to her nervousness, her motion and force weren’t quite rightโ€”the one-yuan coin flew into the air, failed to land back on the small stone table, and instead veered off, rolling across the ground toward the edge of the pavilion…

Heaven was on her side!

Tan Yin’s heart raced with excitement. She rushed over to where the coin had already landed, and while Xiao Lu was still searching for its exact position, she quickly took a peek.

Tails.

Though those inspirational quotes always claimed that whatever fate decided was for the best, Tan Yin had believed, ever since she was little, in the principle that man could conquer fate.

Without much further thought, in that split-second, she used her invisibility to flip the coin from tails to heads.

And almost the moment she finished, Xiao Lu spotted where the coin had landed. Nervous and anxious, she walked over to the coin, then bent down.

Heads!

The coin was heads!

Xiao Lu clutched the coin in her hand, unable to suppress a trembling wave of excitement.

Was heaven really telling her to go confess?

Was heaven telling her to be brave, just this once?

She squeezed the coin tightly in her palm, only then noticing that both her hands were slick with sweat.

Tan Yin stood off to the side, watching Xiao Lu, feeling a sense of understanding and calm born from having been through the same thing herself.

Falling for someone always made you anxious and uncertainโ€”Xiao Lu really was a silly girl!

“So you flipped the coin?”

“Mm-hm!”

Tan Yin, having secretly switched the coin’s outcome and watched Xiao Lu resolutely head off into the rain, finally reunited with Chu Hang.

As always, Chu Hang took her bag for her, holding the umbrella as the two of them walked together in the rain.

“But even though switching it like that helped push her to gather courage to confess, and avoid regret down the line, that doesn’t necessarily mean it was the right thing to do.” Having heard the whole story about Xiao Lu, Chu Hang sounded a bit uncertain. “Maybe her friend was rightโ€”one of them’s a senior and the other’s only a sophomore, their future paths might turn out completely different. And if the guy never showed any interest before, chances are pretty good that even with her working up the courage to confess now, she’ll probably get rejected, and then maybe…”

“She won’t get rejected.”

Chu Hang paused, looking at her. “Hm?”

Tan Yin smiled confidently. “Absolutely won’t get rejected.” She blinked mischievously. “Chen Zheng likes Xiao Lu too.”

Chu Hang’s eyes widened, his face full of confusion, just as she’d expected.

Tan Yin cleared her throat, playing coy. “You want to know? If you want to know, you’ll have to ask me nicely!”

Tan Yin had expected Chu Hang to brush off her teasing, but to her surprise, he pressed his lips together and actually went along with it.

He glanced at her and said obligingly, “Please tell me.”

“…”

Though there wasn’t a shred of genuine pleading in his tone or manner, Tan Yin still felt immensely satisfied seeing the helpless, amused look in his eyes. She cleared her throat.

“I ran into Chen Zheng once while I was invisible,” Tan Yin recalled. “He was playing basketball on the field, and the group playing included several senior guys from different colleges, most of whom didn’t even know each other, just gathering for a casual game since graduation was coming up soon. They played for a while, but then a few people left and they couldn’t make up a full team, so they switched to a free-throw shooting game instead. Someone suggested that before each shot, everyone should call out something they were hoping would go well recentlyโ€”like a good omen if they made the shot.”

“Some people called out passing their grad school entrance exams, some called out landing a good job. Guess what Chen Zheng called out?”

Tan Yin smiled. “He called out Xiao Lu’s name.”

Chu Hang was a little surprised by this turn of events too. “But didn’t you say Chen Zheng never made much of a move toward Xiao Lu during club activities?”

“Chen Zheng’s actually a pretty shy person, and I later found out from other club members that his family isn’t well offโ€”he’s been on student loans this whole time, his parents are sick, and the family’s in debt. Once, after a few drinks at a club gathering, he even joked self-deprecatingly that with his situation, he probably couldn’t afford to date anyone, worried he’d only drag down whoever he liked.” Tan Yin tapped her chin. “So I think that’s probably why he never made a move. And the other reason, of course, was that Xiao Lu was always so cold toward himโ€”Chen Zheng, already feeling insecure because of his family situation, probably just assumed Xiao Lu looked down on him.”

“So you’re saying Xiao Lu being especially cold toward Chen Zheng was actually the opposite of how she really felt?”

Tan Yin nodded. “Xiao Lu’s probably the type who acts extra aloof in front of the person she likes. Deep down she just has no idea how to act around him, so she armors herself up to seem untouchable. But look beneath the surface, and it turns out she’s completely smitten with him.”

Having said this, Tan Yin looked up at Chu Hang, who was carrying her bag for her, and added, “Kind of like how I was with you.”

Caught off guard, Chu Hang’s face did indeed flush slightly. He could only pretend to be composed, though with none of his usual authority, scolding her: “Don’t be ridiculous.”

But Tan Yin, far from backing off, having spent this whole time probing his limits only to discover he had absolutely none when it came to her, suddenly felt bolder. “And weren’t you exactly the same with me before? Always keeping such a cold face toward me, making me think you hated my guts, only to find out…”

Before she could finish, Chu Hang gently covered her mouth with his hand, his whole face and ears going red, wearing an expression of complete, helpless surrender to Tan Yin: “Alright, alright, I give up, stop talking.”

Fortunately, the two of them had specifically chosen an empty, tree-lined path, with not a single person around, or else Chu Hang, talking and gesturing at thin air from an outsider’s perspective, would probably have drawn quite a bit of attention.

But this time, Tan Yin finally let Chu Hang off the hook and returned to the main topic. “Hindsight makes everything clearโ€”even though I wasn’t in the comic club for long, I could tell that Chen Zheng clearly had feelings for Xiao Lu even back then. Many times, while Xiao Lu was helping someone else discuss comic character designs or plot ideas, Chen Zheng would keep secretly glancing at her…”

“Forget about Chen Zheng and Xiao Lu for a momentโ€”why were you invisibly watching another guy play basketball? Explain yourself.”

“…”

Hey, Chu Hang, isn’t your focus a little off here?!

The storm still hadn’t let up, and the two of them continued walking along, teasing each other as they went. By sheer coincidence, right at the corner of this deserted tree-lined path, Tan Yin and Chu Hang ran into none other than Xiao Lu, the very girl who’d rushed out of the pavilion earlier, and standing in front of her was, unmistakably, Chen Zheng.

At that moment, Xiao Lu was standing there, head lowered, saying something to Chen Zheng.

Due to the distance, Tan Yin and Chu Hang naturally couldn’t hear what Xiao Lu was saying, but from her bashful expression and Chen Zheng’s stunned, joyfully overwhelmed reaction, it wasn’t hard to guess that Xiao Lu, following “heaven’s” decree, had gone to find Chen Zheng to confessโ€”and even better, she’d apparently run into him nearby not long after leaving the pavilion.

Tan Yin tugged at Chu Hang’s sleeve. “Want to bet?”

“Bet on what?”

“Bet on whether Chen Zheng will say yes?”

But it quickly became clear there was no need for a bet, because Chen Zheng, not far off, had thrown away his umbrella entirely, and without a second thought, pulled Xiao Lu into a tight embrace. Xiao Lu, still flushed from her confession, was held there in stunned, wide-eyed surprise, momentarily unable to keep up with how fast things were moving.

But soon enough, she came to her senses, her hand shifting slightly, and then she turned and wrapped her arms around Chen Zheng too.

Neither of them remembered their umbrellas, letting the rain fall on them as they held each other tightly.

In this moment, no words were needed anymoreโ€”the two of them had already fully conveyed everything in their hearts to each other through this single embrace.

She liked him, and he loved her too.

Tan Yin and Chu Hang stood quietly off in the distance, neither of them saying anything more, until, without either quite realizing when, one of them had taken the other’s hand, fingers interlaced.

Loveโ€”how wonderful it was. Was there anything in this world more marvelous than two people falling in love?

Watching Chen Zheng and Xiao Lu, their hearts finally in sync, Tan Yin felt a deep wave of emotion. Discovering by sheer coincidence today that Xiao Lu had feelings for Chen Zheng had struck a chord with herโ€”weren’t she and Chen Zheng, in a way, just like her and Chu Hang had once been? Clearly liking each other, yet, for all kinds of reasons, pretending indifference on the surface, nearly missing each other entirely.

And now, because of this troublesome “superpower,” she had inadvertently changed the fate that had almost caused Chen Zheng and Xiao Lu to miss each other, helping the two of them successfully come to understand each other’s hearts and get together. Tan Yin suddenly felt like maybe she really was destiny’s chosen one after allโ€”this “invisibility” ability she’d gained after being struck by lightning wasn’t so annoying after all.
