Chapter 816: Are You a Poison Beast Too?

Even covered in wounds, the power surging within Ziqing’s body was more than enough to sustain her in battle.

How many times before had she not fought while injured?

Whether facing humans or beasts she didn’t understand, to her they were all the same.

None of the three poison beasts had noticed Ziqing was awake. The great foolish bear was still braced there, using its own body to absorb blow after ferocious blow from Henggong Fish.

This bear might be timid, but once it dug its heels in, its stubbornness was harder than Henggong Fish’s own scales.

It was determined to see this through to the end — even if it meant death, it wouldn’t let these two top-tier poison beasts take its enemy away!

Henggong Fish, as it happened, was also a stubborn beast. After several rams without knocking the bear down, it gritted its teeth, not caring whether Howling Hare might steal an advantage in the meantime — it was determined to ram the bear down no matter what!

After all, it was a top-tier poison beast — three hits and it still hadn’t knocked down one foolish bear. What an embarrassment!

Howling Hare was a cunning rabbit. Seeing Henggong Fish locked in combat with the great foolish bear, it secretly rejoiced. Instead of charging openly at Ziqing as before, it shrank itself down to the size of an ordinary rabbit and darted past the bear and the fish, flying straight at her!

But just as it flew toward her, Ziqing suddenly sat bolt upright. Howling Hare couldn’t stop in time and slammed straight into her arms!

If Ziqing had only just woken up, she surely would have thought this a foolish, clumsy rabbit — but in truth, she had been watching through half-closed eyes, having witnessed the entire process of Howling Hare shrinking down.

Quick-eyed and quick-handed, she instantly grabbed Howling Hare by the ear with one hand, gripping Liuguang tight in the other, and stabbed viciously!

In that instant, Howling Hare was terrified out of its wits, completely caught off guard. Instinctively it swelled its body, expanding in a flash, forcing Ziqing to let go.

Ziqing flipped backward, rolling aside, and glared coldly at the now-massive Howling Hare, her sharp eyes blazing.

That collision just now had hurt — hurt terribly. Her whole body had already been covered in wounds, the bleeding only just stopped a few days ago; even the smallest movement pulled at every injury, let alone being rammed by Howling Hare like that.

Ziqing narrowed her eyes, staring at Howling Hare, her mood at rock bottom. Right now, whoever provoked her was asking to die.

She reached instinctively behind her back, but her hand found nothing — her weapon Wuzheng had fallen off her back when she dropped, and she had no idea where it was now.

All she had was Liuguang in hand — but that alone was enough to kill these monsters.

At this moment, killing intent radiated from every inch of her, making Howling Hare, several times her size, instinctively step back.

“Come and die, if you want!” Ziqing said coldly.

To her surprise, at those words Howling Hare was startled. “You! You—you—you! What are you, exactly? I’ve never seen you before!”

After all, in the world of poison beasts, only top-tier poison beasts could speak!

Could this monster before it really be a top-tier poison beast they simply didn’t recognize?

Hearing Howling Hare speak, Ziqing was startled too — this monster could talk? What was going on?

But she recovered quickly. She’d already accepted something as strange as crossing over into another world — what else could possibly be too bizarre to accept?

“None of your business who I am. Get lost now, or don’t blame me for what happens.”

As Ziqing spoke, she swung Liuguang, immediately unleashing a broad sweep of wind-blades. Though the force was nowhere near what Wuzheng could produce, it still sliced off a large patch of Howling Hare’s white fur, and it recoiled in fright.

If this had been an ordinary poison beast, Howling Hare wouldn’t have been frightened at all — but the key thing was, this creature could speak, which should mean it belonged to the top-tier ranks.

In that case, Howling Hare had to think carefully. Among top-tier poison beasts — aside from the rarely-seen Zizhu — everyone’s strength was roughly comparable, so there was no benefit and no reason to lock horns.

Howling Hare wisely retreated. But Henggong Fish was still ramming at the great foolish bear, which by now could barely hold on, blood dripping steadily from the corner of its long mouth, staining great patches of its white fur crimson.

The sight made Ziqing’s heart ache. She flipped and leapt straight onto the great foolish bear’s head, and without hesitation, gripping Liuguang, swung a fierce wind-blade straight down onto Henggong Fish’s head.

“Clang!”

A thunderous crash, as though two fine weapons had collided. Only then did Henggong Fish stop, finally noticing Ziqing’s presence.

And only then did the great foolish bear realize there was something on top of its own head.

Beasts, however fierce, were never as quick-witted as humans.

Seeing that the wind-blade hadn’t hurt Henggong Fish, Ziqing understood at once that this great fish’s scales must be like the black shark’s — and having wounded a Jiao Cha before, she knew exactly what to do.

Henggong Fish’s eyes were its weakness!

Ziqing decided at once, swinging out another wind-blade, aimed precisely at Henggong Fish’s bulging eyes. This sent Henggong Fish scrambling in terror, fleeing in a panic, retreating even farther than Howling Hare had, crying out, “What in the world is this thing!”

“This lady is no ‘thing.’ If you don’t want to die, get out of here now!”

Ziqing said coldly. She had no idea how much longer this surge of power inside her could sustain her — her whole body was covered in wounds, and continuing to fight would surely mean bleeding without end. Besides, these two beasts were strange and unpredictable; she wasn’t sure she could beat them outright even if it came to a real fight.

Scaring them off was the smarter choice.

Hearing Ziqing speak, Henggong Fish was startled. “You’re a top-tier poison beast too!”

But it was those very words that left Ziqing stunned, her heart nearly skipping a beat. “Poison beast!”

The scene from the white jade mural in Yelu Chenyi’s storage chamber immediately surfaced in her mind!

Poison beasts!

They were poison beasts — could it be…

Those disgusting words surged uncontrollably into her mind. Every pore on Ziqing’s body trembled; she couldn’t help it, and suddenly roared, “I’ll kill you both!”

With that, she leapt down from the great foolish bear’s head, her figure as swift and agile as a swallow, Liuguang stabbing forward, killing intent surging.

Henggong Fish and Howling Hare, for all their years, had never encountered such a ferocious top-tier poison beast before. They didn’t dare think further, and both turned and fled.

Both being top-tier poison beasts, without knowing the other’s true strength or background, fleeing was the wisest course!

Ziqing chased after them like one possessed, pursuing them all the way to the cave entrance before finally stopping, gasping for breath — not because she chose to stop, but because she had no strength left!

The power that had just erupted within her was, after all, limited.

She felt utterly, utterly weak — she couldn’t tell if it was hunger or blood loss, but she couldn’t stand any longer, and toppled forward, sinking to her knees.

Yet even so, she gritted her teeth and held on, glancing back once at the great foolish bear behind her before finally losing consciousness.

Though badly wounded, the great foolish bear had luckily avoided any fatal injury. It stared at Ziqing for a long, long while before it finally recovered.

This monster — how strange it was!
