For a moment, Ziqing forgot all about the great foolish bear, still foolishly banging its head against the wall in self-punishment, and began earnestly examining her own body.
Miraculously, all those wounds from before — on her arms, her legs, her face, her back — while not fully healed, had at least all stopped bleeding and closed over.
She tested this by pulling hard at one, and the wound showed no sign of reopening — clearly it had healed remarkably well!
How could this be?
She remembered that the first time she’d woken up here, every wound on her body had still ached — any exertion sent pain shooting straight to her nerves, which was exactly why she’d held back and hadn’t chased after those two top-tier poison beasts.
But she’d only been unconscious a few days — and all these wounds had already healed?
Her weakness now wasn’t from pain, but seemed to come from hunger — her body simply had no energy left, the kind of weakness that wouldn’t kill her, but left her drained.
Could someone have applied medicine to her while she slept?
At that thought, Ziqing looked at the great foolish bear in disbelief — and only then noticed it was still banging its head against the wall!
She hurried over to pull it away, but even gripping its fur with all her strength, the great foolish bear didn’t seem to notice at all — its fur was simply too thick, and even if she’d managed to hold it back, with her current strength, she couldn’t have stopped it anyway!
What on earth was wrong with this foolish bear — fine one moment, and the next, hurting itself like this!
“Enough!”
Finally, Ziqing shouted, putting every last ounce of strength she had into it.
Only then did the great foolish bear freeze. Its huge heart pounded wildly, and it slowly turned its head to look at her, its face covered in blood, looking utterly pitiful — like a child who’d done something wrong.
Ziqing was truly at a loss over this foolish bear!
This creature, huge as it was, with plenty of blood to spare, still shouldn’t be putting itself through this!
Its leg was hurt, its shoulder was hurt, and now its head too — all of it bleeding!
“Lie down!”
Ziqing gestured sharply, and to her surprise, the great foolish bear seemed to understand, obediently lying down. She looked at its bloody wounds, brow furrowed — she knew none of these would be fatal to a creature this size, but it was still hard to watch.
She had nothing on hand to help stop the bleeding, and could only start by examining the knife wound on its shoulder.
But to her surprise, the great foolish bear seemed to understand exactly what she meant. It let out a couple of low grunts toward her, then turned and began licking its own wound!
Before long, something remarkable happened — the once bloody wound, after the great foolish bear’s careful licking, had every trace of blood vanish, the wound miraculously closing up. Though it hadn’t scabbed over, it stopped bleeding entirely, and more remarkably still, its once filthy fur returned to normal — snow-white, warm, and clean.
Ziqing watched in disbelief, and only once the great foolish bear had cleaned every single wound did she finally understand what had healed her own wounds.
It had been the great foolish bear all along!
It seemed that as long as a flesh wound wasn’t fatal, the great foolish bear’s licking could heal it — this creature could practically serve as her personal physician!
Ziqing looked at the great foolish bear and couldn’t help but laugh foolishly again.
She thought, she wasn’t quite at the end of her rope yet — at least she’d been lucky enough to meet this great foolish bear.
If not for it, she’d probably have already become dinner for those two top-tier poison beasts.
An unfamiliar time, unfamiliar enemies, even her own body now a mystery to her!
For the time being, she couldn’t work out exactly what was happening to her body, why it had changed this way.
But she was grateful, nonetheless.
Without ever undergoing the Gu cultivation process, she’d somehow gained a body immune even to medicinal poison — at the very least, that meant she could survive in this world of poison beasts.
She had to get out there and explore this world, find a way out!
There was still so much she had to do — she had to find the location of the lost island, find her people there, get her revenge, and she still had to…
Ziqing didn’t let herself go on. She simply clenched her fists tight, forcing everything back down, burying it deep in her heart.
Right now, she wouldn’t think about any of it. Thinking too much about him, she wasn’t sure she could keep holding back the resentment, keep holding back the despair.
There was only one solution — don’t think about it. Pretend it never happened. Never happened at all!
Whatever else, she had to get out of here!
The great foolish bear, though quite intelligent and able to understand her intentions, still couldn’t speak human language. If she wanted to learn anything about this world of poison beasts, she’d have to find those two top-tier poison beasts.
Of course, Ziqing wasn’t reckless enough to go charging out just yet.
She could tell that in their earlier clash, those two top-tier poison beasts hadn’t gone all out — she had no read on their true strength, and if it came to a real fight, she had no confidence in the outcome.
The only thing she needed to do right now was recover her body’s strength!
The biggest problem with this body now was that it was simply too weak — as though it had lost too much blood, gone too long without replenishing its energy, and on top of that, that long-stored surge of power had burst forth all at once, leaving her with hardly any strength left at all.
Ziqing fetched the royal jelly. Though she didn’t care for its usual sour taste, she forced herself to eat it in large mouthfuls anyway.
This kind of thing wasn’t just rich in nutrients — it was also extremely high in energy, both a tonic for the body and an excellent way to quickly restore stamina.
But the moment Ziqing took a bite, she was startled to discover this royal jelly was nothing like any she’d ever eaten before.
It had none of the usual sour, faintly bitter edge of ordinary royal jelly — instead it tasted like pure natural honey, sweet and fragrant, melting on her tongue.
Even the finest honey Jun Beiyue had once scoured the land for couldn’t compare to this royal jelly.
And after only a few mouthfuls, Ziqing already felt full.
She looked at the great foolish bear in disbelief, and saw it watching her the same way as before, mouth watering, not daring to move.
Could it be that even the food down here was different from anything on the surface?
Looking at the great foolish bear’s massive frame, Ziqing suddenly wondered just how enormous the bees in this place must be!
To sustain a body large enough to fight like that, the food here had to be incredibly nutritious — no wonder a single drop of royal jelly here might rival a ten-thousand-year-old snow ginseng from the Longyuan Continent!
Looking at the large jar of royal jelly in her hands, Ziqing thought that restoring her body in a short time, rebuilding her weakened foundation, might not be so difficult after all.
“Let’s eat together! You need to build yourself back up too!”
She said, holding her small hand out to the great foolish bear’s mouth, and this time, the bear truly had no wayward thoughts at all — it took one lick and obediently closed its mouth.
Once she’d rebuilt her strength, she would go out and explore this world, retrieve Wuzheng, and search for a way out.
Just as Ziqing was building up her strength, Howling Hare and Henggong Fish were still keeping watch not far outside the cave, refusing to leave even now.
What were they after?
They sat perched in the towering tree, staring coldly down at the great foolish bear’s den, hidden in the thick undergrowth below.
“Henggong Fish, don’t you think there’s something off about that one?” Howling Hare asked, quite seriously.
“Everything about her is off. She doesn’t look like a top-tier poison beast at all, no matter how you look at it!” Henggong Fish replied, displeased.
Howling Hare fell silent for a long while before speaking again. “Henggong Fish, did you really not catch that scent?”
“What scent?” Henggong Fish asked, confused.
Only then did Howling Hare slowly turn its head, and said quietly, two words: “A child…”
