The child’s blood was human-Gu blood!
How could Ziqing possibly believe this, possibly accept this? Could it be that this baby had been cultivated into a human Gu while still in her womb?
But even though she’d fought poison beasts while carrying the child, she’d only fought once, and Zizhu had stopped her in time—she herself hadn’t turned into a human Gu, so how could the child have become one?
And though the child was still small, judging by his eyes, his expressions, he didn’t seem like a human Gu at all!
He had feelings. He cried, he laughed, he even delighted everyone around him!
How could he possibly be an emotionless, cold-blooded human Gu?
Ziqing couldn’t accept it, couldn’t make sense of it. She stared at Zizhu with her brow tightly furrowed, and clearly Zizhu couldn’t make sense of this fact either.
Because everyone could see it—this baby was conscious, aware. Apart from the scent of his blood, this baby was in every way a completely healthy, normal child!
Why was this happening?
Why was his blood, from birth, human-Gu blood? Aside from the blood itself, there seemed to be no other trace of human-Gu characteristics at all.
“Master, this humble one truly doesn’t understand!” Zizhu sighed repeatedly. Having once served under a Gu master, it understood a good deal about human Gu.
But faced with this mother and child, both special cases, it truly couldn’t explain it.
Just then, the nine-tailed white fox spoke up quietly. “Master, actually, your own constitution is quite strange too.”
Ziqing’s constitution was said to be one immune to all poisons, but ever since entering the Poison Beast World, she hadn’t been cultivated into a human Gu, yet she’d somehow become immune to the medicinal poison as well.
This remark struck Ziqing at once. Yes—her own constitution was strange too!
Only, her constitution hadn’t been strange from birth—at the very least, she hadn’t once been fully immune to seduction incense.
Ziqing didn’t quite dare to keep thinking down this path, but the thought surfaced in her mind regardless, uncontrollable—was it because of the child that her constitution had changed?
Before she’d been pregnant, she certainly hadn’t had such powerful immunity to the medicinal poison!
Yet while carrying the child, upon entering the Poison Beast World, the medicinal poison-blood had actually been absorbed the moment it touched her.
If it was because of the child, then now that the child had been born, would her immunity to the medicinal poison disappear again?
In other words, perhaps she was actually still just a normal person immune to all poisons—and the truly strange one was the child!
At this thought, Ziqing hurriedly asked, “Zizhu, do you have any poison-herb with an antidote on hand?”
“What does Master want with poison-herb?” Zizhu didn’t understand. Everything in the Poison Beast World, whether beast or plant, carried toxicity—and it was all medicinal poison.
Of course, poison-countering antidotes existed too—plants that grew together were often each other’s antidotes.
“I want to run a test. Do you have any?” Ziqing said urgently.
“Yes, I’ll fetch it right away!”
Zizhu was suspicious, but didn’t dare delay, and quickly brought back two poison-herbs that grew as mutual counterparts.
Ziqing set down the now-sleeping baby, hesitated a moment, then plucked a few leaves from one of the herbs and put them straight in her mouth to chew!
“Master, what are you doing!” Zizhu cried out in alarm. “That’s all deadly poison! Even low-level poison beasts could die from eating it!”
Chewing, Ziqing laughed. “I’m not even afraid of your blood—why would I fear this?”
She plucked a few more leaves and kept chewing, leaving the poison beasts watching in disbelief, unable to guess what she was doing.
But no one stopped her—all five poison beasts present had witnessed Ziqing’s ability to absorb medicinal poison-blood firsthand; a mere poison-herb truly posed no real danger.
Before long, Ziqing had finished every leaf. She looked at the five poison beasts, then at the baby, and everything seemed perfectly normal.
The five beasts were puzzled but unworried—until suddenly, before their eyes, Ziqing’s vision went black and she collapsed, unconscious, her face deathly pale, black blood trickling slowly from her lips!
“Roooar!”
The great clumsy bear screeched in fright, hurriedly scooping Ziqing up into its arms.
“Quick, the antidote! Hurry!”
The nine-tailed white fox cried out, and at the same time Zizhu immediately chewed up the other herb and forced it into Ziqing’s mouth, straining with all its might to get it all down.
Goodness!
She’d actually been poisoned—hadn’t she been immune to medicinal poison-blood before? Why was she poisoned again now?
Every beast present was stunned, staring at Ziqing in disbelief, while Zizhu’s gaze slowly drifted toward the sleeping baby nearby, as though something had dawned on it.
Suddenly, it said urgently, “Henggong Fish, go find some low-level poison-herb—something on the level of seduction incense.”
Henggong Fish was about to go when the nine-tailed white fox stopped it immediately, rolling its eyes at Zizhu before saying coldly, “Something on that same tier as seduction incense—low-level! Not seduction incense itself, understand?”
If this wasn’t made clear, testing poison recklessly could cause real trouble!
Henggong Fish still didn’t fully understand, but nodded and hurried off. By the time it returned, Ziqing had drowsily come to.
“Master, this is a medicinal poison on the same tier as seduction incense, and here’s the antidote. Do you want to try again?” Zizhu said seriously.
“You understand too now?” Ziqing asked.
“Your constitution most likely changed because of the child,” answered the nine-tailed white fox, who had figured it out as well.
Ziqing tested the poison again. This time, she merely fainted—no danger to her life, and no bleeding.
No matter how much the great clumsy bear fussed, Zizhu didn’t feed Ziqing the antidote. Just as it expected, an hour later Ziqing woke on her own.
“Master, your constitution should have recovered?” Zizhu said with certainty.
Ziqing was someone immune to all poisons, immune to ordinary toxins, but she’d never had much immunity to medicinal poison—low-level medicinal poisons like seduction incense would linger in her body, flaring up periodically, while many medicinal poisons would poison her outright.
Her constitution hadn’t changed upon entering the Poison Beast World—it had begun changing from the moment she became pregnant. It was only once she reached the Poison Beast World and encountered medicinal poison that the change had been discovered.
Now that the child had been born, her constitution had reverted to its original state.
However, Ziqing disagreed with Zizhu’s conclusion. “No, to be precise, it’s not my constitution—it’s my immunity to poison.”
The constitution of a yin-type person immune to all poisons was special—it held the potential to grow stronger through adversity during Gu cultivation. Through her battles with the poison beasts, her constitution had gradually strengthened, but it hadn’t become impervious to blade and spear like a true human Gu, and her blood itself hadn’t changed either. So her poison immunity hadn’t actually changed—her blood remained the blood of one immune to all poisons, not the blood of a human Gu.
Everything she’d experienced in the Poison Beast World had simply toughened her originally weak body.
“Right, right, right! The constitution grew stronger, but the blood never became human-Gu blood!” Zizhu quickly corrected itself.
The moment these words fell, everyone turned as one to look at the sleeping baby. All the anomalies that had happened to Ziqing finally had an answer—but what about this child?
Within the Isolated Island bloodline, there had never before been such a strange baby!
