Vol 1 – Chapter 34: Revolutionary Friendship

After finishing her meal, Ruan Yu parted ways with Wang Jing. Just as she left the cafeteria and was walking toward the bus stop, her phone suddenly rang. She pulled it out and saw it was Teng Hao.

Though they had exchanged numbers nearly a month ago, they had never contacted each other. Seeing his name suddenly flashing on the screen left her mind blank.

“Hello?”

“Miss Top Scholar! Guess what place I got in the monthly exam!” Teng Hao’s voice burst through the receiver.

Hearing his excited tone, Ruan Yu knew he had good news, and her mood lifted in response.

“Did you improve?”

“Of course I improved! When your young master shows his prowess, the whole class becomes Hello Kitty!”

“So did you make it to second-to-last? Or did you reach the summit of last place?”

“Hey, you’re too harsh. Here I was thinking of sharing my joy with you, but turns out our revolutionary friendship is this fragile?”

Ruan Yu couldn’t help but laugh.

She laughed at Teng Hao’s progress, and his mention of “revolutionary friendship.”

Their initial mutual dislike, later conflicts, all the grudges, and grievances – everything turned from negative to positive at this moment.

“Did you make it into the top twenty?” she asked, returning to seriousness.

“Mm.” His tone also became serious. “Exactly twentieth.”

“That means there’s still room to improve by twenty places.”

“I’ll have to rely on Miss Top Scholar for that.”

“You’re too kind.”

“Oh right, let’s change locations for tutoring today.”

“Where to?”

“I’ll send you the address,” he said before hanging up.

Soon after, a message from Teng Hao arrived with the address he mentioned.

A108 Winter Collection Road, Changning District – right in the city center.

What was he doing in the city center? Just because he ranked twentieth in class, was he already so carried away he couldn’t even find north?

Ruan Yu wasn’t very willing, but since her little patron wanted to change locations, she couldn’t refuse. She checked the route as she walked; fortunately, there was a direct bus.

The city center always had traffic jams during rush hour. Ruan Yu was stuck in traffic for about half an hour, and when she finally reached Winter Collection Road, it took her quite a while to find the right building number.

A108 was a newly renovated but yet unnamed storefront. It was quite large with floor-to-ceiling windows, but looking in from the outside, the Venetian blinds were drawn tight, completely blocking the view inside.

She went up to knock, but the door wasn’t properly closed – it opened with just a push.

Inside, the lights were blazing.

“Teng Hao?” Ruan Yu called out, but there was no response.

She took out her phone and checked the address again. Confirming it was correct, she began to carefully examine the place.

The reception desk featured a simple black marble design, its surface completely empty, without even a logo, as if the owner hadn’t decided what to name the place yet. Behind the reception desk was a colorful wall that seemed chaotic at first glance, but upon closer inspection, revealed itself to be covered in various street dance moves.

Along both sides of the corridor walls hung a row of portrait photographs. The photos were very large, each mounted in metal frames, looking like high-quality murals.

The first one showed a Black man, with his introduction written in Chinese below.

Ruan Yu barely caught that his name was Sam before her attention was drawn to the second photo – one of Teng Yi.
