Chapter 2127: This Isn’t Right!

“Let’s go take a look.”

Second Mistress’s public suicide threat was completely senseless.

And calling so many reporters to watch – wasn’t this deliberately drawing attention?

Xia Xiaolan hadn’t known before that Xia Ziyu was reborn, and hadn’t taken her seriously enough. After guessing about Xia Ziyu’s experiences, she put considerable effort into studying her character.

How to put it… Xia Ziyu was quite persistent, not one to easily admit defeat.

She probably thought that being “reborn” made her chosen by heaven, that temporary setbacks were just heaven’s tests for its chosen ones, and that she would shine eventually. Thus, Xia Ziyu kept fighting despite repeated failures.

Having gained opportunities through crooked means, she kept trying to maintain them through the same methods.

She wondered if Du Zhaohui could handle the Second Mistress’s suicide threat properly.

With the Second Mistress causing such a scene, everyone’s attention was drawn there. If Xia Ziyu wanted to do something, this was undoubtedly the best time. Honestly, she secretly hoped Xia Ziyu would try something – Xia Ziyu had lost her money but still held the identity of Du Zhengrong’s Fifth Mistress. Such punishment was too light for her!

Setting aside past grudges, Xia Xiaolan could never forgive Xia Ziyu for manipulating Tang Xiaoyan to kill Comrade A-Fen.

This woman always hid when doing evil deeds, pushing others to take the fall while she hid away.

Before, she had manipulated her birth parents Zhang Cui and Xia Changzheng to do bad things.

Now she wouldn’t even spare a teenager like Tang Xiaoyan.

If her suspicions were correct and Xia Ziyu couldn’t resist making a move against Du Zhengrong… who would she push to act this time?

Would it be Second Mistress?

No, Second Mistress wasn’t that foolish.

With Du Zhaoqi imprisoned and Du Zhaohui in power, the Second Mistress didn’t want Du Zhengrong dead.

If Du Zhengrong died, the second family would have no chance of turning things around.

Bribing others would be difficult – Xia Ziyu was known throughout Hong Kong as “Three Million Negative Assets.” Who could she possibly buy off?

She might be able to get people to do other things, but no one would dare help eliminate Du Zhengrong. Xia Ziyu wouldn’t trust others with this either – it had to be a secret known only to her.

Xia Xiaolan grew excited at this thought.

Could she catch Xia Ziyu in the act today?

That would be perfect!

Settling scores with Xia Ziyu completely before marrying Zhou Cheng would be quite a wedding gift.

You Li jogged behind, noting Director Xia’s gentle smile.

A gentleness that was chilling – someone was definitely about to have bad luck!

“Director Xia, this way.”

Zheng Feng led Xia Xiaolan toward Du Zhengrong’s hospital room. Because the Second Mistress had chosen to threaten suicide at Du Zhengrong’s hospital, reporters from all over Hong Kong rushed over. The entire floor with Du Zhengrong’s room was blocked off to prevent reporters from sneaking in to take photos.

Only Zheng Feng was skilled enough to smuggle Xia Xiaolan’s group in.

Du Zhengrong’s room usually had 24-hour security, but now they were nowhere to be seen.

Xia Xiaolan stopped: “Wait, let’s see what happens.”

Why should she foolishly rush into the room?

Xia Ziyu was desperately looking for someone to take the fall – Xia Xiaolan didn’t want to walk right into a trap. What if this was a trap Xia Ziyu had set for her?

Xia Xiaolan’s group temporarily hid in an empty room opposite Du Zhengrong’s.

Xia Xiaolan frowned and whispered some instructions to Little You.

“Someone go with Little You. Safety first.”

Xia Xiaolan felt something was odd. Just then, Du Zhengrong’s room door opened from inside, and two suited bodyguards ran out.

“Hurry, Second Mistress is going to jump. We need to help the Young Master.”

Then they ran upstairs.

Hmm?

Were these Du Zhengrong’s bodyguards or Du Zhaohui’s men?

Well, Du Zhengrong had been unconscious for so long, that Du Zhaohui had probably replaced all his original bodyguards.

But Du Zhaohui’s men were too stupid – how could they leave Du Zhengrong alone in his room at a time like this?

“Director Xia, should we…”

“Something’s not right. The bodyguards could be sent away, but what about the medical staff on this floor?”

Indeed – bodyguards could leave, but could medical staff?

The patients on this floor were extremely important. This was Hong Kong’s top private hospital, serving the wealthy. How could they leave patients alone?

Sure enough, within two minutes, two more people, appearing to be doctors, walked out of Du Zhengrong’s room.

Now, was Xia Ziyu alone with Du Zhengrong in the room?

Xia Xiaolan thought for a moment, then suddenly smiled:

“We probably don’t need to go in anymore.”

Inside the room, there were indeed only Xia Ziyu and Du Zhengrong.

Xia Ziyu looked up, clearly having cried intensely earlier – her eyes were swollen and bloodshot.

She knew chaos reigned outside.

Without this, how else would she have the chance to be alone with Du Zhengrong?

Xia Ziyu’s heart was racing.

Du Zhengrong just lay there in the ICU, remaining unconscious day after day.

She couldn’t be blamed for being heartless – people had to live for themselves.

“They forced me to this… don’t blame me… it will be quick, you won’t suffer long. Mr. Du, I’m helping you find release.”

She didn’t have much time – the people who were sent away would return soon.

Xia Ziyu wore lace gloves. She leaned over Du Zhengrong’s bed and first turned off the ventilator.

The doctors had said Du Zhengrong couldn’t breathe on his own anymore.

Doing this herself made Xia Ziyu’s heart nearly jump out of her throat. She had considered asking Xia Junbao but didn’t trust his intelligence. As for her staff – from maids to drivers to bodyguards – they were all found by Du Zhengrong. Xia Ziyu didn’t know whose orders they really followed or if they could be trusted.

After all, Du Zhaohui had previously bought off her former driver.

Thinking of this, Xia Ziyu’s tone grew resentful:

“If you had considered me more, I wouldn’t be in such a mess!”

In the ICU, Du Zhengrong was already convulsing involuntarily from lack of oxygen.

The many machines beside the bed should have alarmed them – before they could scream, Xia Ziyu turned them off one by one.

As she did this, her expression was both grotesque and gleeful. When Du Zhengrong was healthy, she had to watch this old man’s moods carefully, afraid of losing his favor if she displeased him.

She had tried desperately to perform in bed, making Du Zhengrong dependent on her.

But she never really enjoyed sleeping with an old man!

The loose muscles, and sagging skin – just touching them made her nauseous.

Back then, Du Zhengrong was her meal ticket, the “Mr. Du” who could lift her to the branches or drop her in the mud!

Now, Mr. Du was still Mr. Du, but without consciousness, just an old thing she could easily kill.

Old thing, you enjoyed such a beautiful young body – you got lucky.

Du Zhengrong’s convulsions grew more violent. How could a deeply comatose patient save his own life?

Gradually, Du Zhengrong’s convulsions subsided.

Xia Ziyu checked her watch – six or seven minutes had passed.

Before turning the ventilator back on, she reached to remove Du Zhengrong’s oxygen mask – she needed to confirm he was truly dead first.

Just as Xia Ziyu lifted the mask, the supposedly dead man suddenly opened his eyes-
