HomeLove's AfflictionChapter 76: Never Forgotten (27)

Chapter 76: Never Forgotten (27)

Two children, the older one named Jiang Shen, the younger one named Jiang Sui. Caution in action, following in nature.

After recuperating in the hospital for some time, Shi Niannian was discharged. Jiang Wang had completely turned the study at home into his office, staying by her side all day.

Although after having two babies, Shi Niannian was too busy with the twins to need his companionship much.

Both babies were good-looking. After just a month, Jiang Shen and Jiang Sui had become so adorable that one glance would melt anyone’s heart. Everyone who visited their home had to play with the babies for a while.

Secretary Zhao often came to the house to deliver documents to Jiang Wang, and after leaving the study, he would always wander to the nursery to see the babies.

Secretary Zhao shook a rattle in front of the twins and said, “Does the older brother’s eyes look a bit like Mr. Jiang’s? The younger one looks like you.”

“Mm, many people say so.”

Shi Niannian sat on the fluffy carpet nearby, her hand supporting her head.

“But they’re both very cute. The baby shouldn’t look like Mr. Jiang; he should look like you to be cute.” Secretary Zhao had become familiar with Shi Niannian and spoke much more casually.

Shi Niannian looked up and smiled at her, “Why is that?”

“Mr. Jiang is so serious. The babies should be cute when they’re little, and they can look like their father when they grow up.” Secretary Zhao bent down to play with the babies, teasing them, “Don’t you agree?”

She didn’t stay long, soon saying goodbye and leaving.

Shi Niannian continued playing with the babies for a while. The more she looked at them, the more she loved them. She could vaguely see a bit of Jiang Wang’s shadow in them. They would grow up to be very handsome.

As she was thinking this, Jiang Wang pushed open the door, sat down on the carpet next to Shi Niannian, wrapped his arm around her waist and leaned closer, “Aren’t they asleep now?”

“Mm.” Shi Niannian kept her voice very soft, like a small brush tickling his heart, “They just had milk and were only just lulled to sleep. Don’t wake them up again.”

When talking about the children, she couldn’t help but smile, and became more talkative: “The older brother is quite well-behaved, doesn’t cry, just stares at me. But the younger one cries all the time. Aunt Zhang just said with that voice, he could become a singer in the future.”

Jiang Wang hugged her from behind, quietly listening to her talk. He curled his lips into a smile and whispered in her ear, “They’re both asleep now. Shouldn’t you comfort me, too?”

“Comfort you about what?” Shi Niannian turned her head to look at him.

She saw the man’s eyes darken slightly, and his hands become mischievous. He lowered his head and kissed Shi Niannian.

Since Shi Niannian became pregnant, Jiang Wang had been mindful of her health, only being intimate a countable number of times. After the children were born, he had completely abstained for a period.

Even the kiss was no longer as gentle and full of care as before, returning to the man’s unique, overwhelming, and aggressive aura.

Shi Niannian’s hand supported her from behind as she slowly leaned back, hitting something.

The baby cradle swayed, and Jiang Sui’s loud crying suddenly erupted, penetrating and shattering the original romantic and ambiguous atmosphere.

Jiang Wang’s hand, which was supporting beside her, paused, and his body stiffened. Keeping the original posture, he looked toward Jiang Sui.

Jiang Sui was crying his heart out, his little hands balled into fists and waving wildly. Beside him, Jiang Shen remained calm, though he didn’t look too happy about being woken up, but at least he wasn’t crying.

Shi Niannian hurriedly pushed Jiang Wang away to pick up the baby, but Jiang Wang stopped her, saying “I’ll handle it,” and bent down to lift Jiang Sui from the crib.

He didn’t know how to comfort children, simply holding Jiang Sui and swaying gently, lightly patting his back.

Unfortunately, the crying didn’t stop for quite some time, only decreasing in volume. The little head rested on Jiang Wang’s shoulder, eyes squinted, making soft crying sounds. If Jiang Wang’s hand stopped for even a moment, the crying would immediately grow loud again, he couldn’t stop at all.

The man sat on the floor, wearing casual pants, his long legs sprawled out, helplessly soothing the child while supporting a tent.

Shi Niannian gently patted Jiang Shen. The older brother was much more obedient and quickly fell back asleep. Then she looked at the father and son sitting on the floor and couldn’t help but laugh.

The young woman gently rocked the cradle while tilting her head, unable to stop laughing.

Jiang Wang raised his eyes and gave her an annoyed glance, “Where’s Aunt Zhang?”

Shi Niannian said, “She comforted Sui Sui all night yesterday. I just told her to go get some sleep.”

After laughing for quite a while, she straightened up, took Jiang Sui from Jiang Wang’s arms, softly comforted him with a few words, and carefully placed him back in bed once the little one had stopped crying.

It took less than five minutes to lull Jiang Sui back to sleep.

Jiang Wang watched from the side, feeling a bit jealous.

His wife spent all day dividing her attention and energy comforting the two little rascals, while he couldn’t even soothe his son properly. When Shi Niannian held Sui Sui and comforted him with a few words, he stopped crying.

When Jiang Shen and Jiang Sui were a bit older, Shi Niannian returned to work at the hospital, and Jiang Wang went back to the company, leaving the two babies to be cared for at home.

However, after just a few days, Jiang Sui started making a fuss again. The baby, not yet able to speak, seemed to sense that mom and dad weren’t home with them, and protested by crying and making a scene. Nothing could comfort him.

Jiang Wang had no choice but to bring both of them to the 19th floor of his office.

Everyone in the company knew that the once strict and ruthless Mr. Jiang had now been promoted to super dad, although he seemed quite annoyed by the disturbance.

Jiang Wang had never been very patient since childhood, and most of the patience he had in this life had been used on Shi Niannian. There wasn’t much left to spare for the two little ones.

Jiang Shen was still well-behaved, but Jiang Sui was always crying. Jiang Wang really couldn’t understand what there was to cry about.

Shi Niannian didn’t have an afternoon shift, so she went to Jiang Wang’s company. As soon as she pushed open the door, she saw father and son facing each other, Jiang Wang with a serious face, and Jiang Sui hiccupping while staring at Jiang Wang with puffed cheeks.

Jiang Shen, on the other hand, was calm and unconcerned that his father and brother were on the verge of a father-son relationship breakdown, focusing intently on watching people below from the high-rise, with no intention of intervening.

“What’s wrong?” Shi Niannian walked over and picked up Jiang Sui, looking at the man, “Did he make you angry again?”

“Your son…”

Shi Niannian retorted, “He’s your son too.”

Jiang Wang sighed, “I don’t know who Sui Sui’s temper takes after. He spends half the day crying.”

Shi Niannian hooked her index finger under Jiang Sui’s chin. “Are you hungry?”

Jiang Wang said, “Aunt Zhang just fed him.”

Shi Niannian comforted him for a while, then looked at the man in his suit and tie, finding it amusing. She put the now-quiet Jiang Sui back in the crib and walked over to Jiang Wang.

She took the initiative to sit on his lap, hooking her arms around his neck to comfort him, “How old are you to be getting angry with Sui Sui?”

Jiang Wang pressed his lips together without speaking, seeming still upset, only lowering his head to plant a kiss on her face.

Shi Niannian laughed to herself, her back against the edge of the desk, looking at the man and saying, “Sui Sui can’t even talk yet. How were you communicating with him? When I came in just now, I thought you two were having a standoff.”

Jiang Wang exhaustedly hugged her, his forehead resting on her shoulder, “He’s the one angry with me. I can’t be bothered to be angry with him.”

Shi Niannian laughed again, thinking Jiang Wang was too cute. She hugged his neck and glanced at the desk. “Have you finished your work?”

“Still have a bit left. I couldn’t look at it earlier because Jiang Sui fussed.”

“Then you should get back to work.” Shi Niannian kissed him twice on the corner of his lips, standing up, “I’ll play with them for a while.”

It turned out that Jiang Sui wasn’t prone to crying for no reason; at least he didn’t cry when he saw Shi Niannian. Instead, he waved his little fists happily and smiled at her.

In comparison, Jiang Shen was much less trouble.

Shi Niannian held Jiang Sui with one arm while leaning toward Jiang Shen, gently poking his cheek with her finger, “Shen Shen, say ‘mama’.”

Jiang Wang looked up to see the three of them playing by the floor-to-ceiling window, and the irritation that had built up from the crying instantly vanished.

Jiang Shen raised his little hand, softly grabbing Shi Niannian’s poking finger.

Shi Niannian repeated “mama” slowly.

Suddenly, Jiang Shen moved his little mouth and made a “ma” sound.

Shi Niannian was startled, “Jiang Wang, did you hear that? Shen Shen called me mama.”

“I heard.” Jiang Wang was also delighted, walking over to the mother and three children, crouching down, taking Jiang Sui from Shi Niannian’s arms, but speaking to Jiang Shen, “Shen Shen, say ‘baba’.”

Jiang Shen blinked his eyes but didn’t open his mouth again.

Jiang Sui, however, suddenly looked up, opened his mouth softly, and made two “papa” sounds.

Jiang Wang immediately smiled. With that one “papa,” Jiang Sui had salvaged the father-son relationship that had been on the brink of collapse.

Jiang Wang lowered his head, coaxing him, “Good boy, say it again.”

Jiang Sui was very obedient and immediately said it again.

By the time the two children were three years old, they already looked like little handsome boys. Shi Niannian rediscovered her childhood interest in playing with Barbie dolls, buying many clothes to dress Jiang Shen and Jiang Sui handsomely.

Jiang Shen’s personality was a bit like Jiang Wang’s, not very talkative, a bit amusingly serious. Jiang Sui was no longer as prone to crying as before, but his current temperament was neither like Shi Niannian’s nor Jiang Wang’s. He spoke in a way that made people happy, sweet-talking everyone he met into smiling.

One evening, Shi Niannian brought the two babies to the bedroom to play.

Jiang Wang came out after a shower to see Shi Niannian and the two little rascals lying on the bed talking.

Lately, Shi Niannian’s way of speaking had become as childish and soft as the two babies’, calling Jiang Shen “brother” and Jiang Sui “little brother.”

“Sui Sui, you can’t take your brother’s things, okay?”

She took the Rubik’s cube from Jiang Sui’s hand and gave it back to Jiang Shen, then turned to look at Jiang Wang.

The man had just finished showering. From her angle on the bed, she could see his smooth, firm jawline, his hair still wet, with damp traces on his neck.

He bent down and kissed Shi Niannian on the corner of her lips.

Jiang Sui blinked and stretched out his arms toward Shi Niannian, “Mama, Sui Sui wants too.”

Shi Niannian was about to kiss him when Jiang Wang sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at Jiang Sui seriously, “You can’t kiss mama.”

Jiang Sui tilted his head. “Why?”

Beside them, Jiang Shen calmly said, “Because you’re not baba.”

Shi Niannian laughed and still kissed both treasures on their cheeks before looking up at Jiang Wang, “Are you tired? Ready to sleep?”

“Mm.” Jiang Wang nodded, “Ask Aunt Zhang to take them back to bed.”

Soon, Aunt Zhang came in, and Shi Niannian coaxed the boys, “Baba worked too hard and needs to sleep now. Babies should also go to sleep, okay?”

Jiang Shen and Jiang Sui were taken out, leaving only the two of them in the bedroom.

Jiang Wang rolled over and pressed down on Shi Niannian, reaching out to pull the tie of her night robe, curling his lips into a smile, “Who are you calling baba?”

She had gotten used to speaking to Jiang Shen and Jiang Sui that way. To make it easier for them to understand, she directly called Jiang Wang “baba,” just like she called Jiang Shen “brother.”

“Huh?” She was taken aback.

Jiang Wang shamelessly took advantage, his hand moving down to grasp her ankle and pulling upward, “Be good, baba will take care of you.”
