Her heart leaped with joy, and as she eagerly opened her eyes, suddenly a fierce wind arose. Luo Ren, the jungle, and this boundless night were instantly blown out of shape, then in the next moment, completely fell apart.
Mu Dai tried to shout, but felt her cry had just left her mouth when it was pushed back into her throat by the strong wind. Unable to steady herself, she fell straight into the wind, tumbling several times in mid-air, then as if being pulled by invisible suction, she rapidly plummeted toward one direction.
In ancient poetry, “In Luntai, September winds roar through the night, stones scattered like giant pebbles, tumbling wildly with the wind across the ground” – it was exactly like this.
Mu Dai gritted her teeth, curling her body into a ball as much as possible, arching her back, burying her head below her knees. After being tossed in the air currents for who knows how long, her surroundings suddenly brightened, cold air penetrating her body. Cao Yanhua shouted loudly: “Little Master, grab on! Don’t fall!”
Out of the corridor? If she remembered correctly, between the corridor entrance and the high platform was a stretch of cliff, above which hung only the trembling suspension bridge cables.
Mu Dai suddenly opened her eyes, vaguely seeing ropes, and desperately reached out to grab them. Missing by a hair’s breadth, she quickly slipped down. Cao Yanhua’s terrified shouts cracked with strain. All of Mu Dai’s muscles tensed, her body curved backward, and in mid-air she straightened her body, managing to hook one foot around the rope.
The falling momentum finally stopped.
Mu Dai was stunned for a second or two – in those moments, it felt like her seven souls and six spirits had been flung out and then forcibly dragged back. Her arms and legs were shaking, her back covered in cold sweat.
Her entire body hung in mid-air supported only by one foot, like a one-legged bat hanging upside down.
Mu Dai reached up and wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
What had happened? That was Luo Ren’s dream. The previous dreams had all floated up into the air like bubbles, departing silently and without trace. Why did this one suddenly have such fierce winds?
Was it because Luo Ren had suddenly awakened?
If so, that would actually be good. For some reason, Mu Dai actually breathed a light sigh of relief.
Cao Yanhua leaned half his body over the cliff edge: “Little Master, how are you?”
Mu Dai made an okay gesture to him. For the moment, she couldn’t summon the strength to immediately gather her energy and flip back up, so she asked him: “Where’s Hongsha?”
“She hasn’t come out yet.”
Perhaps she had encountered the same situation as her. Mu Dai’s heart tightened: “Cao Fatty, hurry to the corridor entrance and block it!”
If Hongsha was also blown out like her, she might not have the same good luck of catching onto the rope.
Cao Yanhua realized what she meant and ran toward another suspension bridge. Mu Dai suddenly thought of something: “What about that Xiao Qi?”
“Don’t know. It suddenly disappeared, but also seems to be everywhere.”
What kind of statement was that?
Mu Dai’s heart chilled. She hooked her other foot around the rope, almost doing an inverted sit-up, bringing her upper body to her feet, gripping the rope with both hands, and flipped back onto the suspension bridge.
She remembered when she first stepped into the corridor, Xiao Qi’s voice seemed to come from everywhere – the mountains, all directions.
Suddenly disappeared but also seemed to be everywhere – fierce spirits had no physical form to begin with, did they?
Mu Dai hurriedly returned to the high platform. The wind was picking up, dispersing the thick fog, but the sky was beginning to darken. Only that standing door, with the scenery on the other side still bright, vivid, with gentle wind and morning sun, looked like an eye-catching screen in a dark movie theater.
There were strange sounds.
Mu Dai felt an ominous premonition rising in her heart. She widened her eyes and looked up.
From the stone surface where the corridor was located, rocks were rustling and peeling off, as if cracking from drought. Cao Yanhua also noticed because fine stone powder particles were falling on his head.
He brushed his hair and looked up as well, complaining: “Is this about to collapse or what?”
Mu Dai made a “shush” sound and slowly approached the cliff.
She wasn’t mistaken – the edges of the cliff were also eroding layer by layer. The cracking sounds of the stone surface went “bip-bop,” and suddenly pieces would fall toward the endless abyss, as if being swallowed by invisible mouths.
A nearby suspension bridge suddenly jolted violently.
This was…
Mu Dai felt buzzing in her head, her voice changing: “Cao Fatty, the stone surfaces on both sides are eroding. The anchor points of the suspension bridges are very likely to crack apart!”
Cao Yanhua was stunned. After a pause, he looked down at his feet with trepidation.
The erosion speed was visible to the naked eye. At first it wasn’t fierce – not falling in large chunks, each eroded piece was thin as sesame candy.
But it was even more terrifying – this was visible water wearing away stone, rope cutting through wood.
Sweat broke out on Cao Yanhua’s forehead: “Little Master, what… what should I do?”
“Come back! Come back immediately!”
“What about Hongsha?”
Who knew? Who knew when Hongsha would come out? Mu Dai’s lips moved, her face terrifyingly pale, her fingers clenching and quickly releasing, countless thoughts racing through her mind. Just then, there was suddenly a crash beneath Cao Yanhua’s feet.
Mu Dai screamed: “Hurry back!”
Cao Yanhua also knew things were very bad. He held his breath and charged toward the suspension bridge. He had only run two steps when someone heavily slammed into his back with tremendous force. Unable to resist, he tumbled forward.
It was Yan Hongsha, suddenly blown out from the corridor entrance!
Mu Dai shouted: “It’s Hongsha! Catch her!”
Cao Yanhua rolled on the spot, catching sight of a figure falling off the suspension bridge in his peripheral vision. Without caring about anything else, he reached forward to grab her leg and forcibly dragged her back up.
Yan Hongsha was so frightened her lips turned white. She and Cao Yanhua stumbled and pushed each other onto the high platform, the foothold crumbling beneath them. Both of them almost simultaneously gathered their energy and tumbled forward into the safety zone.
With a thunderous crash, this suspension bridge broke apart in the middle.
Almost at the same moment it broke, Cao Yanhua suddenly pointed to another bridge and shouted: “My Luo brother!”
Was it? Mu Dai could hardly believe her ears. She quickly turned to look and indeed saw a familiar figure at the corridor entrance.
The mountain stone erosion was getting faster and faster. Before Mu Dai could speak, Cao Yanhua was already jumping and warning: “Luo brother! Hurry! Hurry!”
Just as his words fell, there was another thunderous crash. The corridor entrance suddenly collapsed, and large chunks of mountain rock along with that end of the suspension bridge disappeared instantly in a cloud of dust.
Also disappearing was Luo Ren, whose face they hadn’t even had time to see clearly.
Mu Dai’s mind went blank for an instant. The next second, she staggered toward the cliff edge, shouting: “Luo Xiaodao!”
Tears came without her knowing. When she got close, her legs went weak and she practically crawled over. The anchor point of this suspension bridge was also eroding. She grabbed one end of the railing rope and leaned out to look.
Vaguely, she thought she could see someone at the end of the railing rope.
That was it – this suspension bridge hadn’t broken in the middle but had given way from one end. Luo Ren had been on the bridge at the time, and with his alertness and survival instincts, he would definitely grab onto something tightly.
Mu Dai gripped the rope tightly and shouted: “Come help me!”
Before she finished speaking, the anchor point of this suspension bridge also cracked. Without natural support, the weight below suddenly increased. Mu Dai couldn’t help herself – most of her body was pulled out by the rope’s force. Fortunately, Cao Yanhua and Yan Hongsha behind her reacted extremely quickly – one threw himself on top of her to weigh her down, the other desperately hugged her legs.
Mu Dai hoarsely shouted: “Don’t let go! Don’t let go no matter what!”
She gritted her teeth, twisted her arm around the rope, lowered her head to wind around one end of the railing rope, then desperately lifted up, using the strength of her neck to share the weight below.
Her vision was somewhat blurred, or more accurately, her consciousness was somewhat blurred.
She watched that familiar figure rapidly climbing upward, silently repeating to herself: Hold on, don’t let go, don’t let go no matter what.
