Chapter 21: The Emperor’s Arrival

Uncle Fu Jingshu and General Liu seemed to have heard something and also turned their heads toward her.

General Liu was a man with stern features. Their eyes met, and he nodded deeply to her in gratitude.

The little girl beside him smiled at her, tears still glistening in her eyes. Under the sunlight, that crystalline brightness made her heart ache.

She nodded to General Liu in return. His intention in advising Lian Jie to rebel might not have been bad—perhaps he truly believed Lian Jie was a benevolent ruler. But dragging his family into political schemes, leading to life and death consequences—she did not approve.

Having clearly risked herself to rescue his young daughter, yet now seeming somewhat disapproving of him, General Liu was slightly surprised. He frowned at her, but saw that this young man had already turned to look at Fu Jingshu.

Su Zhen thought that Uncle had refined features with a thin beard beneath his chin, truly fitting his name.

Unexpectedly, he was also staring at her, first with scrutiny, then slowly showing a trace of… delight.

Had he recognized her?

How was that possible?

Su Zhen’s heart tightened with both shock and joy. Just then, people began throwing things at Fu Jingshu.

Nothing more than stones.

Regarding political truths, the waters were deep and murky, mostly incomprehensible to people. General Liu had guarded the borders for many years after all, and according to the stories that spread, his treason wasn’t for personal gain. Uncle Fu Jingshu’s case was somewhat unclear—people only knew he had committed treason.

From the common people’s reaction, she vaguely understood that his political achievements during his tenure might not have been outstanding, as there weren’t many mourning him.

But he was truly implicated because of the Feng family.

He was her father’s life-and-death friend. This household of many was about to die wrongfully while she watched helplessly, powerless to help. When she reached the underworld in the future, how could she face her father?

Her heart was extremely pained. She pressed her palms together, finally setting aside even her hatred for Lian Yu for the moment, flicking her sleeves and turning to leave.

Leng Xue suddenly lowered his voice at her ear, “Someone is watching you.”

She froze, then replied in a low voice, “I just played bandit—it’s not strange for people to watch us.”

“Don’t be foolish. If it were ordinary people, would I need to remind you?”

She shuddered, “Where?”

“Can’t say exactly where, but I have this feeling—this comes from a master’s judgment.”

She was speechless. Damn it, Leng Xue, you’re useless! >_<

Looking around, since this so-called master couldn’t even find himself, she naturally couldn’t find him either. She only saw Lian Xin staring at her intently with that sinister smile that was quite chilling.

What Leng Xue mentioned certainly wasn’t Lian Xin—this dead girl had wanted to eat her flesh and drink her blood since earlier.

She threw a flirtatious glance at Lian Xin, who froze with wide eyes and clenched fists. If not for the two beauties in red and purple holding her tightly, she might have rushed over to bite her to death.

Su Zhen smiled, squeezing through the crowd with Leng Xue as they made their way out through the sea of people.

“His Majesty arrives! Kneel in welcome!”

Halfway through their exit, she heard a clear, solemn voice cutting through the air. She trembled and stood frozen in place. Leng Xue yanked hard at her sleeve before she gritted her teeth and knelt down.
