Cang Shan Xue – Chapter 74

“Methods for dead people…”

Jiang Zhaoxue smiled, pretending to be serious: “We cultivators are actually quite skilled at those.”

Hearing this, Ming’s pupils contracted. Though clearly panicked, he still forced himself to remain calm: “Then let’s try it!”

“Alright.”

Jiang Zhaoxue’s expression became more serious. Looking at the youth before her gripping bamboo chopsticks and stubbornly staring at her, her tone softened: “I was just joking with you. You don’t need to be afraid. Just answer whatever I ask.”

“Swear it.”

Ming pressed her. Shen Yuqing’s expression instantly turned cold as he was about to shout: “You dare…”

“Fine.” Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t let Shen Yuqing finish and directly agreed, raising her hand. Her tone was as if coaxing a child, extraordinarily indulgent: “Don’t worry, as long as you want to live, I will definitely protect you well…”

As she spoke, Jiang Zhaoxue felt a familiar pine and cypress scent pressing close from behind. Clothing brushed across the back of her hand. Jiang Zhaoxue’s heart jumped.

Then she felt Shen Yuqing’s gaze look over. She kept her eyes straight ahead, pretending not to know Pei Zichen had come behind her. She only listened to porcelain being gently placed on the table surface, looked at Ming, her tone slowing down as she smiled and promised: “I absolutely won’t let anything happen to you.”

The person behind finished placing the teacup. During these words, he withdrew his hand and turned back, walking to stand behind Shen Yuqing again.

Only after he returned did Shen Yuqing withdraw his gaze.

Jiang Zhaoxue’s heartbeat was somewhat uncontrollable. Not even knowing what she felt guilty about, she instinctively glanced at Mu Jinyue standing to the side and saw she seemed to be observing them.

Seeing Jiang Zhaoxue’s gaze sweep over, Mu Jinyue hurriedly withdrew her eyes.

This undercurrent of tension fell into Ming’s eyes. He stared at them without speaking.

Jiang Zhaoxue sensed Ming’s gaze and came back to herself. She coughed lightly and asked with a smile, “What do you think?”

Hearing this, Ming cautiously put down the chopsticks and said in a low voice, “Ask away.”

“Do you know what the Holy Pool is for?” Jiang Zhaoxue got straight to the point.

“I don’t know, but there’s always been a rumor within the cult,” Ming said calmly, “that when the Holy Pool is full, it will lead all living beings to the Ghost Realm and create a worry-free prosperous age.”

“Full?” Jiang Zhaoxue caught the key point. “What does it contain?”

“Blood.”

Ming spoke. Jiang Zhaoxue was puzzled: “How do you know?”

“I saw it.”

Ming didn’t hide anything and responded: “The Holy Pool is inside a mountain cave in the Xuecang Mountain Range. The outside has a stone door with a large lock. No one knows what it looks like inside. Only two types of people can enter the Holy Pool—one is the Holy Pool Seeds selected each month to enter the Holy Pool, the other is those responsible for transporting Profound Azure Stone.”

“Profound Azure Stone?”

This was the first time Jiang Zhaoxue had heard of this stone. She found it strange: “What kind of stone is this?”

“A type of black stone native to the Western Regions. Since the Holy Pool’s construction began, the demand for this stone has been huge. Almost every month, a batch needs to be transported into the Holy Pool. These two types of people never come back out after entering the Holy Pool. One year, because a laborer accidentally died and there was a shortage of people to transport the Profound Azure Stone, they temporarily had me go help. When I delivered the Profound Azure Stone to the entrance, I realized where I had come to.”

Ming’s voice was very flat, as if talking about something unrelated to himself. He continued: “I knew that going in meant death, so while crossing a long bridge, I pretended to be exhausted and rolled off the long bridge, falling into the underground river below the bridge and escaped. Before rolling down, I saw the scene inside the Holy Pool. Inside was a blood pool. As soon as people entered, the blood water would come alive and swallow them.”

Listening to this, Jiang Zhaoxue analyzed the situation and continued inquiring: “Then according to what you say, the Holy Pool is inside Xuecang Mountain’s cave. We can just go directly there, right?”

“There’s a teleportation formation outside the Holy Pool. Once someone forces their way in, the Holy Pool will immediately transport to another location.” Ming seemed to know what they wanted to do and said calmly, “I imagine you going to the Holy Pool must have some purpose. If you can’t see it, wouldn’t all your efforts be wasted?”

“But how can we get in now?” Listening to this, Jiang Zhaoxue thought and said, “We didn’t get a Holy Pool Seeds quota. Judging by your status, you don’t seem to be someone who can let us directly become Holy Pool Seeds and enter the Holy Pool, right?”

“The cult is currently in urgent need of Profound Azure Stone,” Ming seemed to have already made plans and said flatly, “If you can find Profound Azure Stone and disguise yourselves as a merchant caravan, escorting the Profound Azure Stone into the Holy Pool in the name of believers, they probably won’t refuse.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t immediately speak. The people beside her were all waiting for her. After thinking for a moment, Jiang Zhaoxue smiled: “Forget it. I’ll just do a divination. If we go there and can truly find what we’re looking for, it will be very auspicious.”

With that, Jiang Zhaoxue took out her Cosmos Fortune Sticks. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, she raised her hand and shook out a stick. Seeing “Great Fortune” written on it, she raised an eyebrow and turned to look at the youth beside her, smiling: “Since my fortune stick says great fortune, I’ll trust you this once. You’d better not deceive me.”

“You’d better not deceive me either.”

As Ming spoke, he seemed to remember something, his tone finally carrying some emotion.

Jiang Zhaoxue found this somewhat strange and frowned slightly. But thinking about it, she didn’t seem to know anyone like this.

In this world, the only person she knew at this age was Li Xiuji.

But Li Xiuji was seventeen. The child before her was only fifteen. Moreover, when he was dragged away by Xinluo Yi back then, she had also used divination to confirm his life or death. He… shouldn’t have been able to survive.

Jiang Zhaoxue always harbored some suspicion and couldn’t help but look at Ming once more. But she didn’t put this speculation out in the open, only saying, “Alright then, this young master must be tired too. Zichen, Jinyue.”

Jiang Zhaoxue turned to pick up her teacup and said flatly, “You two go settle Young Master Ming first.”

The two disciples were stunned by this instruction, then realized Jiang Zhaoxue was dismissing them. Though clearly hesitant, they still raised their hands in salute.

Pei Zichen stepped forward first, reaching out to help Ming up, saying in a low voice, “Young Master, please come with me.”

“If I go with you,” Ming stood up with Pei Zichen’s help. As Pei Zichen escorted him out the door, he glanced at Mu Jinyue following behind with a mind full of worries and lowered his voice to remind him, “there will only be two people left in this room. Think carefully about my words.”

Pei Zichen acted as if he understood nothing, only helping Ming down the steps, saying softly, “Be careful.”

After everyone left, Jiang Zhaoxue finished her tea and put down the teacup. Only after activating the Mountain River Bell to completely isolate the outside world did she look up at Shen Yuqing.

Shen Yuqing clearly no longer had last night’s loss of composure. He looked like his usual cold self. Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t know how he self-regulated, but it had nothing to do with her anyway. She picked the important point first: “You were in a bad mood yesterday. We haven’t discussed the main issue yet. I need to ask you something.”

“Go ahead.”

“When you saw Mu Jinyue yesterday, was the barrier really broken?”

Jiang Zhaoxue stared at Shen Yuqing. Shen Yuqing frowned in confusion: “Why do you ask this?”

“Just answer yes or no.”

Shen Yuqing didn’t answer immediately. Jiang Zhaoxue smiled: “What, still protecting her at this time?”

“I’m not protecting her.” Shen Yuqing immediately responded. Seeming to think about something, he only said, “When I returned last night, the barrier in her room was indeed broken.”

“I would know if my barrier broke, unless in one situation,” Jiang Zhaoxue stared at Shen Yuqing, “it was broken from the inside.”

Shen Yuqing was stunned. Jiang Zhaoxue said with certainty, “This means that last night she went out on her own initiative. Tell me the truth—why exactly do you keep bringing her along?”

Shen Yuqing showed a hesitant expression, clearly struggling with something. Jiang Zhaoxue watched his expression and pressed further: “We came from five years in the past. Song Wulan has been watching us and knows our movements extremely well. Last night she took the initiative to become a hostage…”

“She can’t possibly have a problem.”

Shen Yuqing immediately spoke.

Jiang Zhaoxue stared into his eyes. He said this sentence extremely firmly. Jiang Zhaoxue sensed something and smiled: “Why do you trust her so much?”

“Song Wulan is someone from a thousand years ago,” Shen Yuqing seemed to think she was being unreasonable and asked her in return, “She’s a disciple of Lingjian Immortal Pavilion. How would she know Song Wulan, and why would she help him?”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. She lightly tapped the armrest and probed: “Well, there are two possibilities. Either it’s for emotion. Maybe she wants you too much, or maybe she wants to compete with me, using her life to gamble and see between her and me, whom you would choose.”

“Nonsense!”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing immediately curled his fingers. He felt that disappeared red mark as if it were still on his hand, burning with pain. He insisted: “She’s not that kind of person.”

“Then there’s only the second possibility.”

As Jiang Zhaoxue spoke, her expression cooled. She leaned forward, staring into his eyes, and demanded coldly, “Who exactly is she?”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing’s eyelashes trembled lightly. Meeting her gaze and looking at the person drawing near before him, he seemed to desperately restrain his emotions and asked in return, “During these eight years we were apart, who was the person who tempted you?”

“You suddenly ask this—are you trying to change the subject, or is she in the same position as the person you’re asking about?”

“You counter-question me like this—does such a person truly exist?”

The two questioned each other, neither answering. After confronting each other for a moment, Jiang Zhaoxue was the first to smile.

She sat up straight. Though her heart already had the answer, she sighed and said, “Shen Zeyuan, you’ve truly never lowered your head once before me.”

Shen Yuqing lowered his eyes without speaking, seemingly unwilling.

Having gotten her answer, Jiang Zhaoxue was too lazy to say more to him and changed the topic: “Since you insist Mu Jinyue has no problem, then we need to think from another angle. He now knows our movements like the back of his hand. If it’s not someone reporting to him, then there’s another reason. Perhaps our every step is within his control. The words of this child called Ming today may not be trustworthy.”

“But to lure us into a trap, they would release true information.” Shen Yuqing understood her meaning.

“Song Wulan is at Xuecang Mountain.” Jiang Zhaoxue said with certainty.

Shen Yuqing raised his eyes and said with equal certainty, “The Divine Severing Sword is also at Xuecang Mountain.”

“That prophecy about the Holy Pool bringing everyone to the Ghost Realm in the future—most likely this Holy Pool will erupt at some moment and cause many deaths. And the reason Song Wulan waited until five years after our time, he must be lacking something and waiting for the right timing.”

“If you and I join forces, he doesn’t have the ability to kill us,” Shen Yuqing also analyzed, “So he’s taking a roundabout approach, setting ambushes for us in advance, constantly wearing us down. Last night’s Qixi Festival might have only been his first move to weaken us, and this Ming might be his second move left for us.”

Hearing this point, Jiang Zhaoxue finally realized something. Her gaze fell on Shen Yuqing’s abdomen as she inquired, “How are your injuries?”

The Shared Heart Contract would only share fatal serious injuries. After they split Mu Jinyue’s injury the first time, even if Shen Yuqing still had residual injuries, they wouldn’t be shared with her again.

She wasn’t clear about the specific condition of his injuries, but since he was injured, it would definitely affect him. And after Pei Zichen treated her injuries, he would also be affected.

This round, none of their four were in good condition. Song Wulan’s goal had been achieved.

She was considering the big picture. Shen Yuqing knew she wasn’t concerned about him, but hearing this question, he didn’t know why some suppressed emotions suddenly surged up. His eyes suddenly felt a bit sore. He turned his head away and said in a muffled voice, “It’s minor.”

“That’s good then.”

Jiang Zhaoxue nodded. Shen Yuqing instantly felt somewhat stifled again.

If it were in the past, needless to say, she would have asked about his injuries immediately last night. Even if delayed until now, she should know his temperament—that he wouldn’t show weakness and would insist on examining the wound again.

But now she just moved past it directly.

His heart felt bitter. Unconsciously covering his wound, Jiang Zhaoxue paid no attention and only continued thinking: “We’ll follow their lead for now and go into Xuecang Mountain with them. If the Divine Severing Sword is close enough, can the Su Guangji sense it?”

“It can.”

“Excellent.” Jiang Zhaoxue was quite pleased and nodded. “Then you rest first. I’ll go find Lady Pei to discuss the Profound Azure Stone matter.”

With that, she was about to get up when Shen Yuqing stopped her, saying in a low voice, “Wait.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue turned her eyes and saw Shen Yuqing seemed hesitant. Jiang Zhaoxue raised an eyebrow: “What is it?”

“Last night, I confronted Pei Zichen.” He struggled to say this sentence.

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue raised an eyebrow, feigning ignorance: “Oh?”

“That action was too improper. I think we should have a good talk.”

“Talk about what?”

“Answer me one truth.” Shen Yuqing desperately restrained himself. Each word was extremely difficult to say: “During these eight years, have you… have you developed feelings for anyone else?”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. Shen Yuqing’s entire heart hung in suspense.

He looked at the ground, his voice dry: “Is it that demonic cultivator from Jiuyou Realm?”

“Boring.”

Jiang Zhaoxue turned to leave. Shen Yuqing finally spoke out: “You and I are husband and wife. Even if you have no sense of propriety or rules, you should have basic ethics. Is this what Penglai taught you?!”

“It has nothing to do with Penglai.”

Hearing him mention Penglai, Jiang Zhaoxue immediately turned back and said coldly, “First, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Second, I don’t need to explain anything to you. Let’s just travel together and each be well.”

“But I’m your husband!” Shen Yuqing stood up. Though suppressing his tone, he still couldn’t help being somewhat agitated: “You and I concern two sects. You formed a Life Servant Contract with Pei Zichen and have unclear ties with that Jiuyou Realm demonic cultivator. I know you haven’t done anything, but you should at least show some consideration and save face for the two sects!”

“You’re talking to me about face?” Jiang Zhaoxue found it laughable. “You and Mu Jinyue are completely innocent, so how do I lack face?”

“I said before that Jinyue and I only have master-disciple affection, nothing else.”

“Then Zichen and I only have nurturing affection, and with that senior, we met by chance—nothing else!”

With these words, Shen Yuqing no longer refuted. He only stared intently at Jiang Zhaoxue, breathing rapidly, saying nothing.

Jiang Zhaoxue looked at him coldly.

During the standoff, a young man’s gentle voice came from outside the door: “Master, Master’s Wife.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue and Shen Yuqing both turned to look. They saw Pei Zichen and Mu Jinyue had already returned. The two stood at the door. Pei Zichen still maintained his bowing posture, his expression respectful, as if he completely hadn’t heard what they had just been arguing about. Mu Jinyue’s eyes were full of concern, looking left and right at Jiang Zhaoxue and Shen Yuqing, seemingly uneasy.

When Jiang Zhaoxue and Shen Yuqing came to themselves, they both suppressed their emotions and turned their faces away from each other.

Shen Yuqing calmed his breathing and said coldly, “What is it?”

“Just now this disciple has settled Young Master Ming,” Pei Zichen answered methodically and calmly, “I wonder what arrangements Master and Master’s Wife have next?”

“Go find Lady Pei,” Jiang Zhaoxue immediately instructed, “and inquire where she is.”

“I’ve already asked.” Pei Zichen responded, “Earlier in the corridor, I met a steward and asked. Lady Pei is at the silk shop in the east of the city balancing accounts today.”

“Then let’s go.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue turned around. Seeing this, Shen Yuqing immediately followed: “We haven’t finished talking…”

“Don’t follow me!”

Jiang Zhaoxue shook her sleeve and cursed angrily. Pei Zichen shifted his feet and blocked Shen Yuqing.

Shen Yuqing glared coldly and shouted: “Move aside.”

“Master!” Seeing this, Mu Jinyue quickly grabbed Shen Yuqing and said urgently, “Master’s Wife is angry right now. Let her calm down!”

“Master needn’t worry,” Pei Zichen also comforted him, his tone unhurried, “This disciple will follow Master’s Wife well. Please rest for now, Master.”

“You…”

“Master, please calm down!” Seeing the situation, Mu Jinyue quickly pulled back Shen Yuqing. “If you strike Senior Martial Brother, it will only deepen the conflict with Master’s Wife. Calm down first!”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing’s movements paused. He looked at Pei Zichen, who would take any beating or scolding, his chest heaving rapidly, but he didn’t do anything more.

Seeing him calm down, Pei Zichen raised his hand in salute: “This disciple will go ahead.”

Shen Yuqing didn’t speak. He stared intently at Pei Zichen, watching him leave.

After Pei Zichen followed Jiang Zhaoxue and left, Mu Jinyue turned around, looking at him with some worry: “Master, you came with the heart to humble yourself. Even if Master’s Wife is wrong, you just need to endure. Why argue?”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing stiffened, only then realizing what he had done.

How did they start arguing again?

He didn’t know either.

For these two hundred years, they had argued whenever they met. He had long since lost the energy to argue.

Before meeting her, he had thought many times about reuniting with her.

He thought that since they wouldn’t separate and it had already been two hundred years, he’d just let it go.

She was willful by nature—he knew that. Since she was his wife, he would bear it together with her. If she wanted to make trouble, let her make trouble. He would indulge her somewhat.

He had originally wanted to take a step back, first stabilize her, and once her anger subsided, let it be.

But after meeting, every word, every action, every movement, right up to last night, he could no longer deceive himself. He clearly realized that in the eight years she had left him, she had long since become different from the past.

She had met new people.

Perhaps people stronger, more outstanding, more capable of making her heart flutter than him.

Thinking of this, Shen Yuqing felt his hand aching faintly, throbbing with sourness and anger.

Whether Pei Zichen or that Jiuyou Realm demonic cultivator, she was truly lawless. Any one of these men, if word got out, could ruin her reputation and make her the biggest gossip topic in the True Immortal Realm.

Last night he lost his composure and vented his anger on Pei Zichen, but he also knew the root cause was with Jiang Zhaoxue. After thinking all night, he thought he should have a good talk with her.

After all, they were young married couple. She was probably just innocently beginning something now. Everything was still in time.

He couldn’t truly let go and let her go astray.

He had wanted to talk properly, but halfway through the conversation, they started arguing again.

She was willful by nature. Why couldn’t he yield to her a little?

Why did he have to get to the bottom of everything?

Shen Yuqing stood in place feeling annoyed with himself, yet knowing these emotions had no value. He glanced at Mu Jinyue waiting obediently beside him. Suddenly recalling what Jiang Zhaoxue had asked earlier, he finally reacted to the main issue and said coldly, “Did you run out on your own last night?”

Hearing this, Mu Jinyue stiffened, seemingly at a loss.

But Shen Yuqing seemed to already understand her intention and only said, “Your master’s wife and I know what’s in our hearts. Don’t meddle in the future.”

Hearing this, Mu Jinyue’s expression dimmed slightly. She lowered her eyes and said softly, “Yes.”

“Wait for your master’s wife.”

Shen Yuqing turned around dejectedly and entered the main hall. After walking a few steps, he stopped. He seemed to remember something. After remaining silent for a while, he said in a low voice, “Go… buy some fish and bring them back.”

When Mu Jinyue went out to buy fish, Jiang Zhaoxue was already rushing toward the silk shop.

She was in the midst of her anger, walking very quickly.

The road was bustling with people coming and going. Pei Zichen kept following behind her, quietly using spiritual power to part the crowd, ensuring she could charge straight through unobstructed.

Jiang Zhaoxue had no attention for what was behind her. In her mind, she walked while cursing: “Shen Yuqing, that old bastard! Now that he’s older, he’s got more to meddle with. I didn’t let him manage things before. Now he’s rushing to be a father figure. What a disease!”

“Exactly!” A’Nan joined in cursing fiercely. “That shameless sticky rice cake who’s unclear with his own female disciple—you’ve dissolved the contract, how long ago was that, and he still wants to control you! Why don’t you just go to South Wind Pavilion tonight and hire a few male attendants to open his eyes!”

“Right!” Jiang Zhaoxue vented, “I’ll go tonight!”

One person and one bird cursed thoroughly in the sea of consciousness. By the time they cursed their way to the silk shop, Jiang Zhaoxue had vented her anger and calmed down. She composed her emotions and stood at the door of the silk shop, when she heard Pei Zichen say softly, “Master’s Wife, this disciple will go announce us first.”

Jiang Zhaoxue paused, only then realizing Pei Zichen had followed all the way.

She turned to glance at Pei Zichen and saw he had already stepped forward. He politely reported their background to the shopkeeper. Hearing this, the shopkeeper quickly said, “The master went to the warehouse for inventory. Please rest for a moment, two immortal masters, and have some tea. This humble one will notify the master right away.”

“Thank you.”

After Pei Zichen finished dealing with the shopkeeper, the shopkeeper led the two of them to a tea room. Once the shopkeeper left, only Jiang Zhaoxue and Pei Zichen remained in the tea room.

Pei Zichen’s presence instantly magnified infinitely. She felt him walk forward and pour tea for her from the side.

This action didn’t seem wrong in any way. It was just a lean forward, a draw near—pine and cypress scent rushed at her nose, sleeves brushed past her body, and those distinct, slender, beautiful knuckles holding porcelain crashed into her field of vision. Jiang Zhaoxue instantly became somewhat uncomfortable.

Pei Zichen seemed to sense this. He glanced at her from beside her. When their eyes met, he seemed to understand something. Suppressing the smile in his eyes, he straightened up and took a step back.

He proactively opened up distance. Only then did Jiang Zhaoxue feel like she could breathe again. Then she felt something was wrong and couldn’t help turning back: “Were you just smiling?”

“Hm?”

Pei Zichen raised his eyes, somewhat puzzled: “Master’s Wife, why do you say this?”

This question stumped Jiang Zhaoxue. She felt her question was somewhat rude.

Feeling somewhat at fault, she turned her head away. Pei Zichen looked at her back, his gaze gentler.

Jiang Zhaoxue tapped the table waiting for Pei Shulan, always feeling Pei Zichen standing behind her was somewhat distracting. Fortunately, Pei Shulan came quickly. Entering the room and seeing Jiang Zhaoxue, Pei Shulan hurriedly bowed, surprised: “How did Immortal Master Jiang come here?”

“Lady Pei,” Jiang Zhaoxue stood up to receive her, showing a flattering smile on her face, “I came to ask you for a favor.”

“What matter could Immortal Master Jiang have that this humble one could help with?” Pei Shulan was led by Jiang Zhaoxue to sit down, looking puzzled.

Pei Zichen stepped forward to pour tea for Pei Shulan. Jiang Zhaoxue thought about how to phrase her request and smiled: “Lady Pei, you’ve operated in Cang City for many years. Your information network must be very well-informed. I just want to buy some Profound Azure Stone. I wonder if Lady Pei has any connections?”

“Profound Azure Stone?” Pei Shulan was somewhat surprised. “Why would you want this thing?”

“Is it hard to find?” Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue knew there were obstacles.

Pei Shulan thought about it and nodded: “This item has been purchased everywhere in recent years. As soon as it’s mined, someone immediately buys it. For you to want Profound Azure Stone, it’s indeed not very easy.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue frowned, but she also heard the room for maneuvering in Pei Shulan’s words. She only said, “Not easy, but there’s still a chance?”

Pei Shulan didn’t speak. She thought for a long while, then looked up with a serious expression: “Immortal Master Jiang, why don’t we be frank? You want Profound Azure Stone for the Blissful Longevity Cult, correct?”

Jiang Zhaoxue paused, thinking without answering.

Understanding the result, Pei Shulan probed: “Does Immortal Master Jiang want to disguise herself as a merchant caravan to enter the Holy Pool?”

“Why does Lady Pei make such a guess?” Seeing Pei Shulan see through everything with one statement, Jiang Zhaoxue couldn’t help but find it strange.

“To be honest with Immortal Master Jiang,” Pei Shulan’s expression grew heavy, “I have a friend who specialized in the ore materials business. He’s been supplying them for these years, but last year he entered the Holy Pool and never returned. They said he entered the Ghost Realm to enjoy bliss, but I don’t believe these things. In my heart, when people are alive, they’re alive. When they’re dead, they’re dead. Isn’t the Ghost Realm just death? What’s even more terrifying is that before he left, he told me that in the future, the Holy Pool would bring everyone to the Ghost Realm together. So since last year, I’ve been anxious and uneasy, always feeling this evil cult wants to do something. That’s why seeing Immortal Master Jiang made me very happy.”

Pei Shulan looked up at Jiang Zhaoxue, her expression carrying some hope: “Years ago, when Immortal Master Jiang appeared in Tai Prefecture, you saved all the people of Tai Prefecture City. Now that Immortal Master Jiang has come to Cang City, it’s also to save us, right?”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue’s movements paused slightly.

When she killed Zhuang Yan back then, it was to save Ye Wenzhi. Saving Ye Wenzhi was to get the Jade Spirit Mushroom to treat Pei Zichen’s meridians.

And now, it was also for the Divine Severing Sword.

“I’m sorry…” She hesitated. “I can’t save you.”

“Why?” Pei Shulan was somewhat surprised.

Jiang Zhaoxue deliberated on her wording and said seriously, “Because this is fate.”

“Fate?”

“Historical records show that your world must have such turmoil. I didn’t come to save you. I only came to take what I need.”

In fact, without this catastrophe, without the sacrifice of over a million people, the Divine Severing Sword wouldn’t emerge into the world.

Jiang Zhaoxue felt guilty and said in a low voice, “I’m sorry. You can choose not to help me. But if you do help me, I will protect you and your family. But as for more people—” Jiang Zhaoxue said with difficulty, “I can’t save them.”

“Then…” Hearing this, Pei Shulan involuntarily gripped her handkerchief tightly and said with difficulty, “If you can’t save other people,” Pei Shulan looked up at Jiang Zhaoxue and probed, “can you save my son?”

“Son?” Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t understand. “You mean…”

“Xiuji.” Knowing she misunderstood, Pei Shulan quickly explained, “Our family now has enough food and clothing. The other two children are doing well. I have nothing to worry about. It’s just Xiuji…” Pei Shulan’s eyes reddened slightly: “Back then, his father and I wronged him. But at that time, we truly couldn’t survive anymore. All these years, I often dream. Whenever I dream, I dream of the year we separated from him. I put him on the street and hid in the alley to watch him. He was such a small child, just standing there in one place waiting for me.”

As Pei Shulan spoke, tears fell: “He was obedient from childhood. At that time, he was only three years old, such a tiny thing standing in the crowd. When people blocked my view, I couldn’t see him. I watched with my own eyes as he was carried away… That night, however long he stood there, I cried for that long. Night after night I thought of him, but I knew in my heart that if his fate didn’t change, even if we went back to the past a thousand times, ten thousand times, his father and I would still abandon him. We already had a new child by then…” Pei Shulan seemed somewhat ashamed and turned her head away: “Everyone has to live. Everyone has to live. But if Immortal Master Jiang can change his fate for him, I can go find him. If he’s doing well, I’ll be at ease. If he’s not doing well, I’ll bring him back.”

Listening to this, Jiang Zhaoxue felt stifled.

Actually, from the moment Li Xiuji was abandoned on the street by them, the most likely fate was death.

But this mother simply didn’t dare think this way.

She would rather struggle between searching and not searching than think this child was already dead.

Back then, she had been angry at them for abandoning Li Xiuji, but hearing this now, she didn’t know whom to blame.

After a long silence, she finally only said, “I’m sorry. I can’t help.”

Pei Shulan was stunned, then nodded as if she had expected this all along, saying in a low voice, “It’s fine. I was just trying. How easy is it to change fate? If it could be changed, Immortal Master Jiang would have changed it back then.”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. Pei Shulan wiped her tears and only said, “It’s alright, Immortal Master Jiang. What’s past is past. People must look at the present. Just be straight with me,” Pei Shulan looked up at Jiang Zhaoxue, “What will Cang City’s fate be in the future?”

Hearing Pei Shulan’s inquiry, Jiang Zhaoxue hesitated for a moment and told the truth: “I’m not clear, but the future calamity will most likely originate from the Holy Pool. The Holy Pool is in Xuecang Mountain, too close to here. When the time comes, millions of people may be harmed. Cang City… should be the first place to suffer disaster and probably the most tragic place.”

Hearing this, Pei Shulan was stunned and speechless. Jiang Zhaoxue continued, “If you have any way, get your children out of Cang City as soon as possible.”

“Leave…” Pei Shulan murmured, “But where can we go?”

Jiang Zhaoxue thought for a moment and considered: “Go to Jiang Zhou. Jiang Zhou is the furthest east, located in the zhengyang position. This disaster is caused by resentful spirits, which are yin entities. Jiang Zhou is the furthest away and should be least affected. I can have my Dao companion escort your entire family away and give you three sword intents to set up a defensive formation to ensure your family’s safety.”

Hearing this, Pei Zichen couldn’t help but shift his gaze over.

Pei Shulan also breathed a sigh of relief, seeming finally reassured: “With Immortal Master Jiang’s words, I’m now at ease.”

With that, Pei Shulan stood up and said seriously, “Immortal Master Jiang has shown kindness to the Li family. I, Pei Shulan, am not one who doesn’t repay kindness. Please wait a few days. I’ll go find Profound Azure Stone right away and clear the way through various checkpoints. I’m familiar with those in the Blissful Longevity Cult who accept Profound Azure Stone. After I’ve prepared everything, I’ll travel with you. When we reach a safe place, you can just leave me there.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue felt quite grateful and quickly stood up: “Thank you, Lady Pei.”

Pei Shulan raised her hand in salute. After the two exchanged pleasantries for a while, Jiang Zhaoxue parted from Pei Shulan and headed back with Pei Zichen.

After walking downstairs, Jiang Zhaoxue was clearly somewhat tired. Pei Zichen silently followed behind Jiang Zhaoxue for a while. Seeing Jiang Zhaoxue unhappy, he proactively started a conversation: “What did Master’s Wife discuss with Master today?”

“Oh,” When Jiang Zhaoxue talked about business, she became serious. She quickly told Pei Zichen everything she had discussed with Shen Yuqing today, then summarized somewhat impatiently, “Anyway, that’s the situation now. What we need to do first is keep a close eye on Mu Jinyue and Ming, and get into Xuecang Mountain as soon as possible.”

“Master’s Wife is right.” Pei Zichen pondered, seeming to be thinking about something.

Seeing his expression, Jiang Zhaoxue couldn’t help but say, “What are you considering?”

Pei Zichen’s mind was good. When he thought about things, there was definitely something there.

Feeling Jiang Zhaoxue’s eager gaze, Pei Zichen couldn’t help but want to laugh. He spoke honestly: “This disciple just feels… there seem to be more and more people, and things seem more and more complicated, but thinking carefully, these people all seem to be ones we met from the beginning. Like many small streams converging into the same river—so where is this river planning to flow?”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue smiled: “Naturally it flows to… the place it guides you to.”

“Guides?”

“The opportunity to return to the past isn’t random,” Jiang Zhaoxue walked ahead, explaining to Pei Zichen. “We came back because of the Su Guangji’s guidance. Although the Time Mirror is two mirrors, returning through time and space is primarily led by the Su Guangji. But the Su Guangji stayed at Lingjian Immortal Pavilion for three thousand years without ever awakening. Now that it sent us back, naturally it has its purpose.”

“Then what purpose?”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t answer immediately. She swung the money pouch at her waist leisurely and said, “Since it’s a purpose, naturally it has always existed. From the time we came back, what have we continuously encountered, what has continuously existed… what is it?”

As she spoke, both had the answer in their hearts.

“Xinluo Yi.” Pei Zichen spoke, recalling: “Zhuang Yan was when Xinluo Yi first took human form, beginning to become a ghost immortal. We eliminated her then, but she happened to be summoned by Consort Zhao, who fed her with a blood spring, bringing her back to life. Two years later, it went to Shu, gained two hundred thousand people sacrificed by Song Wuya, but was defeated by Shu’s immortal path and fled to the Eastern Capital for refuge, where it met us again. Now Song Wulan is preparing the Holy Pool, which should be like the blood spring Consort Zhao set up back then, used to feed Xinluo Yi. The Su Guangji summoned us back…” Pei Zichen frowned slightly: “Is it to eliminate Xinluo Yi?”

“It should be for this.”

Jiang Zhaoxue nodded.

Hearing this, Pei Zichen was still somewhat puzzled: “Why would the Su Guangji have us come back to trouble Xinluo Yi?”

At this mention, Jiang Zhaoxue became somewhat unhappy.

“Probably,” Jiang Zhaoxue’s heart welled up with sourness again, “it’s to let you obtain divine artifacts.”

The conditions for divine artifacts to emerge into the world were sufficient power and evil spirits emerging. There probably wasn’t any other era that could consecutively produce three divine artifacts.

This was Heaven’s Way’s favoritism!

Jiang Zhaoxue felt stifled.

But Pei Zichen didn’t quite understand: “Why would it want me to obtain divine artifacts?”

“Because you’re handsome, because you’re good, because you’re the most perfect person in the world.” Jiang Zhaoxue crossed her arms in front of her, her tone sarcastic.

Pei Zichen was amused by her words but followed her without speaking.

Jiang Zhaoxue rolled her eyes, clearly not very happy.

Pei Zichen thought for a moment, looked at a clothing shop nearby, and persuaded: “Master’s Wife, you haven’t bought new clothes in a long time. Today we happen to have time. Why don’t this disciple take you to buy some clothes and jewelry, and browse around?”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue’s heart stirred. Pei Zichen continued, “I seem to have grown taller. I should buy a few more sets of clothes.”

“You’re still growing?”

Jiang Zhaoxue turned back in surprise. Pei Zichen smiled helplessly and bitterly: “Master’s Wife, since I was twenty-one, I haven’t bought any more clothes.”

These words made Jiang Zhaoxue realize—when they met again, he was twenty-one. After that, they entered the illusion realm together. Clothes bought in the illusion realm couldn’t be brought out. After leaving the Lingxu Fan, they were busy dealing with finding the Soul Nurturing Pearl, dealing with Shen Yuqing, leaping to five years later…

Busy and bustling, there truly had been no time to buy clothes.

She looked at the clothing that indeed seemed somewhat tight and felt guilty. She nodded: “We should buy some. Well then, you lead the way. Go to the best clothing store. Today I’ll buy you an outfit.”

Pei Zichen was always good at gathering information. He led her to a magnificent and splendid clothing store. Seeing it, Jiang Zhaoxue instinctively touched her money pouch, saying somewhat guiltily, “You’re so young. If you dress too well, it might attract trouble. Why don’t we…”

“Master’s Wife, don’t worry,” Pei Zichen stood behind her, raising his hand to press on her shoulder to stop her escape, his eyes full of smiles as he comforted her, “This place only has intimidating decor. The prices are actually less than in Tai Prefecture.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue breathed a sigh of relief and immediately said, “Price isn’t the issue. I’m considering the impact on you. But since you like it so much, Master’s Wife is still willing to splurge for you. Let’s go.”

Jiang Zhaoxue weighed the silver in her pouch and strode in happily: “Pick whatever you want!”

“Stop pretending.” Seeing her showing off, A’Nan couldn’t help but say, “Since you came to the Mortal Realm, all your silver has been from Pei Zichen. Does he not know how much you have?”

These words made Jiang Zhaoxue pause, then she refuted with dissatisfaction: “What if I have private savings?”

“The True Immortal Realm doesn’t use silver currency,” A’Nan reminded. “If you secretly hid private savings in the Mortal Realm behind his back, he’d be the one puzzled.”

One person and one bird bickered secretly. Pei Zichen followed Jiang Zhaoxue into the shop. Immediately a servant came up and began showing Jiang Zhaoxue around.

Pei Zichen stood to the side, walked up to the shopkeeper, quietly passed over a gold bead, and whispered, “Third floor.”

The shopkeeper was stunned, then immediately understood. He quickly came forward himself and began greeting Jiang Zhaoxue happily: “Madam, what are you looking for?”

“I want to buy him an outfit.”

Jiang Zhaoxue pointed at Pei Zichen beside her. The shopkeeper understood and quickly said, “This way, please.”

He led Jiang Zhaoxue upward. Jiang Zhaoxue knew the principle that the higher you go, the more expensive it gets. But the shopkeeper walked ahead and Pei Zichen followed behind. She couldn’t very well flee at the last moment, so she could only squeeze her money pouch again and ponder…

If worst came to worst, she’d call Shen Yuqing over to pay.

He owed her a lot of money.

Thinking this, Jiang Zhaoxue felt much more secure and immediately became generous. Taking Pei Zichen up to the third floor, she saw rows of magnificent clothing. She casually browsed and said to Pei Zichen, “What style do you like?”

“You pick,” Pei Zichen smiled as he watched her choose clothes for him, his tone gentle. “Whatever you give me, I like.”

“That statement of yours…”

Jiang Zhaoxue smiled awkwardly and glanced at the waiting shopkeeper beside them, then turned to start picking.

She simply selected various colored garments for Pei Zichen and had him try them on.

Pei Zichen had a good figure. Everything looked beautiful on him. Jiang Zhaoxue looked left and right—all good. So she approved one set after another as he changed.

After picking clothes, she began choosing hair crowns and waist ornaments for him. When she saw a white jade orchid pendant that was extremely suitable for Pei Zichen, she casually picked it up and turned to compare it against Pei Zichen’s waist, unconsciously saying, “I think this one on you…”

Before finishing her words, Jiang Zhaoxue paused, only then realizing what she was doing.

She was choosing a jade pendant?

She was actually choosing hair crowns, belts, and jade pendants—these things—for Pei Zichen?

These intimate personal items weren’t like ordinary clothes. For her to pick them was truly overstepping boundaries.

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t dare move for a moment. Pei Zichen sensed her hesitation and raised his eyes, looking at the woman before him who was clearly somewhat shocked and trying to withdraw the jade pendant. His eyes couldn’t help but carry a smile as he said softly, “How would wearing it be?”

“Oh, nothing.”

Jiang Zhaoxue feigned composure, trying to put down the jade pendant, but was held back by a hand.

Jiang Zhaoxue’s heart jumped. She looked up at him and saw Pei Zichen holding her hand, looking at her gently, saying softly, “This jade pendant is very good. I like it very much.”

The shopkeeper nearby quickly urged: “Madam, help your husband try it on!”

“He’s not…”

“Please help me put it on.”

Before Jiang Zhaoxue could finish her protest, Pei Zichen interrupted. He looked at her, his eyes carrying some regret: “You’ve never given me a gift before.”

These words instantly made Jiang Zhaoxue think of the cosmos pouch full of jewelry from New Year’s. Though she planned to return it all after everything ended, thinking of how many things he had given her made her feel somewhat at fault.

The two silently faced off. Pei Zichen glanced at the shopkeeper and instructed, “Please go down and make some tea.”

The shopkeeper was stunned, then bowed and left with a smile.

Only the two of them remained in the room. Jiang Zhaoxue felt his presence and aura instantly become incomparably strong.

He held her hand both firmly and gently, saying softly, “Yesterday I had some misunderstanding with Master’s Wife. I know Master’s Wife harbors reservations.”

“No… no I don’t.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue knew he was referring to what happened at the inn. Her heartbeat involuntarily quickened as she hastily glossed things over: “I have no reservations.”

“If I’ve made things difficult for Master’s Wife, this disciple’s heart is uneasy. This disciple’s life was saved by Master’s Wife. I entrust my life and death to you.”

As he spoke, he gripped her hand and pressed it against his belt, as if hinting: “Rest assured, this disciple will always wait for you and will absolutely never make things difficult for you in the slightest.”

“What are you saying,” Jiang Zhaoxue laughed awkwardly, “I don’t understand.”

Pei Zichen smiled and only said, “Help me fasten it. Consider it my coming-of-age ceremony, alright?”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. He didn’t let go either.

The temperature in the room climbed. Pei Zichen took another step forward, pressing close as he urged, “Alright?”

This distance was too close. Her hand was against his abdomen. In the height of summer, clothing was thin. She could clearly sense the muscle texture beneath the fabric. In an instant, she remembered last night’s absurd dream. Unfinished desire was stirred up by him, and saliva inexplicably became abundant in her mouth.

She couldn’t help swallowing. Though this action was slight, it still made the pearl flowers on her head tremble.

Pei Zichen looked down at the pearl flowers atop the head of the person in his arms, desire growing wild.

Yet the two maintained a half-palm’s distance. He didn’t dare overstep by even one step. He only tilted his head, his voice containing hidden hoarseness, saying like a youth, “No one has ever fastened a jade pendant for this disciple. Master’s Wife, won’t you help me?”

“Fine, fine, fine.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue felt if she continued, she’d become a beast in human clothing.

She quickly lowered her head to fasten the jade pendant for him, feigning irritation: “Children are just so troublesome.”

Pei Zichen smiled without speaking, looking down at her slightly trembling fingertips.

After she finished fastening the jade pendant, he asked softly, “Does it look good?”

Jiang Zhaoxue’s heartbeat skipped a beat. She heard Pei Zichen press further: “Master’s Wife, am I good-looking?”

“Good-looking, good-looking.”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t dare stay longer and fled downstairs as if escaping.

Reaching downstairs and away from Pei Zichen, Jiang Zhaoxue finally felt the air freshen up.

She walked to the counter, pulled out silver, and said to the shopkeeper, “Calculate the bill first. If there’s not enough money, I’ll call someone.”

Hearing this, Pei Zichen, who was following behind Jiang Zhaoxue, paused and looked up: “Who does Master’s Wife plan to call?”

“Shen Yuqing.”

Jiang Zhaoxue said openly, “Don’t worry, he has money.”

“This disciple also has money.”

Hearing this, Pei Zichen’s expression cooled. He directly sent the clothes into his cosmos bag, turned around and pulled Jiang Zhaoxue along: “Let’s go.”

“Wait,” Jiang Zhaoxue was pulled by him and looked at the shopkeeper in confusion, “We haven’t paid yet…”

“It’s been paid.”

The shopkeeper smiled as he saw them off happily: “The young master already paid. Please take care, you two.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue was dragged out by Pei Zichen. Only then did she realize that after giving her so much jewelry, Pei Zichen still had money to splurge!

She was somewhat shocked for a moment and couldn’t help but say, “Where did you get the money?!”

“Weddings and funerals, tomb guarding and date selection, demon catching and evil exorcism, bodyguard and enforcer,” Pei Zichen said calmly. “As long as it doesn’t harm heaven and reason, and the price is right, this disciple can do anything.”

But he could never compare to Shen Yuqing.

Pulling Jiang Zhaoxue along, Pei Zichen knew clearly in his heart that doing all this, he could never compare to Shen Yuqing, who would inherit all of Lingjian Immortal Pavilion.

“Master’s Wife,” Thinking this, Pei Zichen wanted to let go, but having already grasped her hand, he was unwilling to release it. He could only say with difficulty, “When I establish my own sect in the future…”

“You’re truly amazing.”

Jiang Zhaoxue looked at him with admiration. Pei Zichen was stunned. He turned back in surprise and saw Jiang Zhaoxue’s worshipful eyes: “I most admire hard-working young people like you who do things and earn money. Being a CEO is easy; being an assistant is hard.”

“Master’s Wife…”

Though Pei Zichen didn’t understand, he still vaguely grasped that Jiang Zhaoxue was praising him. He said cautiously, “Are you saying I’m better than Master?”

“Of course.”

Jiang Zhaoxue immediately said, “Where is his money-making ability compared to yours?”

Hearing this, though Pei Zichen knew Jiang Zhaoxue was exaggerating, he still couldn’t help feeling somewhat happy.

But he felt that comparing himself to Shen Yuqing wasn’t gentleman’s conduct. He could only smile and say, “Does Master’s Wife want to browse more? Cang City has many snacks…”

“Let’s go, let’s go,” Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue immediately said, “Let’s eat before going back.”

Eating and playing along the way, by the time Jiang Zhaoxue and Pei Zichen returned to the residence laughing and joking, it was already late at night.

Everyone at the Li Residence had long since retired. Jiang Zhaoxue had just been telling Pei Zichen a joke and quickly instructed him: ‘Quieter, laugh quietly…’

“You’re back?”

Before finishing her words, an icy voice rang out.

Jiang Zhaoxue and Pei Zichen stopped short. Looking up in shock, they saw Shen Yuqing sitting in the main seat at the round table in the great hall, with Mu Jinyue standing behind him, making faces at them.

Pei Zichen’s expression cooled, but he sensibly stepped back and bowed respectfully: “Master.”

Jiang Zhaoxue’s gaze dropped to see the table full of dishes and couldn’t help but be somewhat surprised: “You’re eating all this by yourself?”

At these words, the atmosphere grew colder. Shen Yuqing’s breathing clearly became more chaotic. Under the table, he secretly clenched his fingers into fists. He stared intently at the jade pendant at Pei Zichen’s waist, his chest aching with stuffiness.

Mu Jinyue looked left and right. Seeing the situation was wrong, she quickly explained, “Master’s Wife, Master was waiting for you to return to dine together.”

“Oh…”

Jiang Zhaoxue realized and casually waved her hand as she moved to leave: “I’ve eaten. You eat first.”

“What did you eat?”

Shen Yuqing interrupted her, seeming to desperately restrain himself.

Jiang Zhaoxue couldn’t quite react and instinctively replied, “Wontons, roasted lamb ribs, and wraps.”

“What’s so good about those?” Shen Yuqing suppressed his voice, trying to make his tone peaceful as he commented, “Wontons and wraps are common street food, hardly fit for refined dining. Roasted lamb ribs have a heavy flavor and dry nature, unsuitable for eating. It’s not like we don’t have delicacies at home. Must you sneak out for a bite to feel satisfied?”

These words were clearly held back and held back again, unable to be suppressed any longer, yet not wanting to start a conflict, thus becoming increasingly sarcastic.

Jiang Zhaoxue was too lazy to bother with him. She cursed “sick” and stepped up the stairs, walking toward her room.

Pei Zichen’s gaze followed her, and though his face showed nothing, Shen Yuqing intuitively felt he seemed very happy.

Happy—happy about what?

Looking at the jade pendant at Pei Zichen’s waist, Shen Yuqing found it glaring. Finally unable to bear it, he slammed his chopsticks down and shouted angrily, “Stop right there!”

Jiang Zhaoxue turned back coldly and saw Shen Yuqing staring at her: “You have the heart to go out and accompany someone to buy jade pendants, but no heart to eat a fish?”

At these words, Jiang Zhaoxue was stunned.

Her heart panicked slightly. In an instant, she remembered that the knot-tying technique she used for the jade pendant was unique to her.

Others might not know, but she had fastened jade pendants for Shen Yuqing countless times. Shen Yuqing was naturally familiar with it.

For the moment, she didn’t dare say more. After all, Pei Zichen was already an adult man. For her to tie jade pendant knots for him was inexcusable no matter how one looked at it.

With her silence, Shen Yuqing’s breathing clearly grew heavier. He seemed to want to say something but didn’t know how to begin. After restraining himself for a moment and thinking of the endless disputes throughout the day, he picked up his chopsticks and softened his tone: “I haven’t eaten yet. Come sit down. Just watching is fine.”

For Shen Yuqing, these words were already an extremely humble gesture. Pei Zichen couldn’t help but look toward Jiang Zhaoxue.

Jiang Zhaoxue already felt at fault. Hearing Shen Yuqing yield, she no longer argued. After walking forward and sitting down, she was surprised to see braised fish on the table.

These past days they’d been eating Western Region cuisine. She hadn’t had braised fish in a long time.

This braised fish was bright in color and fragrant. Though it had been sitting for a while, it appeared even more flavorful.

Though she was full, her appetite returned. Not wanting things to become too tense, she took up chopsticks and smiled: “Why didn’t you say there was braised fish earlier? Was it worth all this arguing?”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing’s expression improved somewhat. He said flatly, “I thought you didn’t like it anymore.”

“Habits are hard to break,” Jiang Zhaoxue said casually. “My love for fish isn’t from just a day or two.”

“True.”

Shen Yuqing acknowledged, and his whole person calmed down. He said something to Mu Jinyue, who withdrew early, walking out the door and greeting Pei Zichen: “Senior Martial Brother, I’m going to sleep first.”

Pei Zichen responded indifferently. Mu Jinyue bowed and left.

After she left, only Jiang Zhaoxue and Shen Yuqing remained in the room. Pei Zichen turned his eyes to look and saw Shen Yuqing serving Jiang Zhaoxue food. He picked the fish belly with the fewest bones, dipped it in sauce, and said slowly, “Braised fish still needs to be made with carp, but there are so many bones.”

“It’s fine if I eat more. I can filter them out in my mouth.”

“Forget it,” Shen Yuqing said flatly. “Last time you got one stuck, you had to find the Medicine Lord to remove it. Almost had to open your esophagus.”

“That was a spirit beast. These mortal fish…”

The two spoke casually. Shen Yuqing had none of his imposing presence before others and looked extraordinarily peaceful.

Clearly discussing trivial matters, the two could continue talking. Their words were so familiar they didn’t distinguish between yours and mine, their understanding seamless.

This scene was like needles stabbing Pei Zichen’s eyes, glaring to the extreme.

He didn’t want to watch anymore. He turned and walked into the night to fetch digestive soup for Jiang Zhaoxue.

Jiang Zhaoxue sensed Pei Zichen leaving and secretly glanced over. Shen Yuqing immediately noticed and said flatly, “Just a disciple, yet you care so much.”

“This sounds familiar,” Jiang Zhaoxue said carelessly, reminding him, “Back when I said this about you and Mu Jinyue, how did you respond to me?”

Shen Yuqing’s movements stiffened. Jiang Zhaoxue imitated his tone: “Wild thoughts, making trouble for nothing. She and I only have master-disciple affection, nothing more.”

With that, Jiang Zhaoxue looked up at him and said with amusement, “Right?”

“So you’re taking revenge on me?”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing spoke unwillingly, “Using this method…”

“I’m not taking revenge on you,” Jiang Zhaoxue interrupted him, explaining seriously. “I’m just telling you—Mu Jinyue is your disciple, you care for her. And Pei Zichen, I raised him for eight years. I watched him from seventeen to twenty-five. He’s my eight years of effort.”

Hearing this, Shen Yuqing’s face paled. His fingers unconsciously curled, yet he still said, “So what?”

“When I came of age and bestowed him a courtesy name, I didn’t have time to give him a gift. I made it up today and gave him a jade pendant, that’s all,” Jiang Zhaoxue took a handkerchief to wipe her hands, saying lightly, “Just a disciple. Don’t be too sensitive.”

With that, Jiang Zhaoxue stood up to leave, saying flatly, “I’m going to rest first. Lady Pei will come tomorrow to discuss going to the Holy Pool with us. You should rest well too.”

She walked out the door. Just a few steps past the main gate, she saw Pei Zichen already standing in the corridor with digestive soup, bowing coldly: “Master’s Wife.”

Jiang Zhaoxue nodded slightly, took the digestive soup and drank it in one gulp, saying casually, “Bring a bowl for your master too.”

She put down the soup bowl and turned to leave. Just as she moved, she heard Pei Zichen suddenly speak: “Is fish really that delicious?”

Jiang Zhaoxue was stunned. Pei Zichen then acted as if he had never said that sentence, carrying the digestive soup forward.

Jiang Zhaoxue stood alone in the empty corridor. Belatedly, her tongue tip turned sour, so sour it felt numb. She gasped and quickly ran back to her room, grabbed tea water and drank three cups straight before feeling her tongue recover. She couldn’t help but say, “Did he put too much hawthorn in? It’s so sour.”

“Is it possible that the person is sour?” A’Nan stood on the table reminding her.

Jiang Zhaoxue paused, not daring to think more. She only waved her hand: “Alright, let’s sleep first.”

That night, Jiang Zhaoxue had another bizarre dream.

She dreamed she was sitting under a waterfall cultivating when someone stood on the shore watching her.

The other person watched her for a long time. She opened her eyes. The person was too far away for her to see their face clearly.

She could only see from a distance a thin, tall figure in dark robes, like a mountain, like a pine tree.

Her heart jumped. Recognizing who it was, she couldn’t help but smile: “Fellow cultivator, what are you doing standing there?”

“I observe the moon in the sky, yet it’s like a reflection in water.”

“What moon in the sky?” Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t understand. The other person didn’t speak.

He only stood in the distance, gazing at her. After a long while, he said, “You.”

Jiang Zhaoxue was stunned. After a moment, she realized and couldn’t help laughing aloud: “Whether I’m a reflection in water or not, why not come closer to see?”

The other person was silent for a moment, then waded into the water.

Jiang Zhaoxue watched from afar as he entered the water, walking step by step.

In the deep water, he disappeared from sight. Jiang Zhaoxue sat on the lotus platform, smiling as she watched a figure appear in the water.

The first thing to emerge was a pale hand. Jiang Zhaoxue smiled as she grasped that wet palm. The young man’s fingers were slender with distinct knuckles. The moment she gripped him, he burst through the water’s surface, and she finally saw his face clearly.

Pei Zichen!

The moment Jiang Zhaoxue saw that handsome face, she was so shocked she urgently withdrew her hand. But the other person didn’t give her time to be surprised. Gripping her tightly, he pulled sharply, then raised his hand to support her, embracing her waist as he flipped and pressed her into the water.

The sound of water instantly roared in her ears as he pressed down and kissed her.

“Master’s Wife,” his voice scattered in the water as he asked coldly, “After eating so much fish, do you still remember to miss me?”

When Jiang Zhaoxue woke, the sky was still dark.

She gasped heavily in the darkness, her body sticky, her entire person as if soaked in sweat.

She had dreamed again, still of Pei Zichen.

He first fooled around with her in the water. When he’d had enough fun, he held her and fed her fish.

Steamed, braised, fried… a whole table full. She ate so much that now just thinking of fish made her want to vomit.

A’Nan groggily lifted his head, puzzled: “What’s wrong with you?”

“Something’s not right…”

Jiang Zhaoxue immediately realized: “Something’s very wrong.”

“What’s not right?” A’Nan was confused.

“I dreamed of Pei Zichen again.”

Jiang Zhaoxue looked at the bed canopy, incredulous: “I’ve been dreaming of him these past two days. He has the Lingxu Fan, and that thing is skilled in spirit and soul arts. Did he enter my dreams?”

“Hey, you’re overthinking this.”

A’Nan rolled over: “Maybe it’s your own guilty conscience, thinking by day and dreaming by night? Don’t take yourself too seriously.”

A’Nan reminded her: “You’ve refused him again and again. The male lead has strong self-respect. Now even if he has some thoughts, he probably just sees you as his master’s wife. Just go back to sleep.”

Jiang Zhaoxue was comforted by A’Nan and felt this made sense too.

Moreover, whether it was her own improper thoughts or Pei Zichen entering her dreams, she seemingly couldn’t do anything about it either. If she forcibly refused his dream entry, that would be equivalent to letting him know she discovered this matter. Once that layer of paper was torn, she’d have to respond. If she bluntly refused and Pei Zichen became disheartened and wanted to leave, she couldn’t possibly let him go. Not refusing would be even more absurd…

Thinking left and right, Jiang Zhaoxue felt A’Nan was quite right—she must be overthinking.

It must be her overthinking.

After comforting herself, Jiang Zhaoxue fell asleep again. Before sleeping, she suddenly realized something.

Pei Zichen and that senior…

Seemed increasingly similar.

In the dream, she had initially even thought it was that senior.

Jiang Zhaoxue closed her eyes and slept. Meanwhile, after Pei Zichen woke, he first went to the bathing room to wash.

When he emerged from behind the screen fully dressed, Ming had already risen. He sat on the small couch, watching Pei Zichen walk out, and reminded him coldly: “Today’s fish was made by your master.”

Pei Zichen glanced at him coldly: “I know.”

So he had her eat fish all evening.

She could eat as much as she liked, as long as she didn’t eat from someone else’s table.

With that, he lay on the bed. After covering himself with the blanket, Lingxu Fan reminded: “Master, the spiritual power fluctuation just now wasn’t right. Female Sovereign Jiang probably noticed.”

Pei Zichen paused, then said, “I know.”

“What should we do?” Lingxu Fan was somewhat worried.

Pei Zichen closed his eyes. He knew where the spiritual power fluctuation went wrong—the moment Jiang Zhaoxue saw his face, something went wrong.

But Jiang Zhaoxue let the dream continue.

She knew, but…

She wanted it.

Pei Zichen couldn’t help but smile. Yet in his mind, he still couldn’t help but recall the surprised look in her eyes when she saw him.

She hadn’t been expecting him.

But it didn’t matter.

The final result was him—that was enough.

Each harboring their own thoughts, when they rose in the morning and met at noon the next day, their faces showed no difference. Pei Zichen bowed respectfully: “Master’s Wife.”

Jiang Zhaoxue nodded coldly and walked past him.

Ming walked up from behind him, glanced at Pei Zichen, carrying some amusement, and said in a low voice, “She doesn’t want you anymore.”

Pei Zichen ignored him and stepped inside.

After entering the room, he found everyone had already gathered.

Jiang Zhaoxue sat in the main seat, Shen Yuqing sat beside her. Ming was a guest and shared their table. Pei Zichen and Mu Jinyue each stood behind Shen Yuqing and Jiang Zhaoxue, serving them food.

“Lady Pei will come later to discuss the relocation arrangements.” Jiang Zhaoxue notified everyone. Shen Yuqing acknowledged and continued eating.

Today Ming wore Pei Zichen’s clothes. His frame was similar to Pei Zichen’s, but being younger, he was considerably shorter. Previously he had worn the tight-fitting clothes of an assassin with extremely narrow sleeves. Today, changing into regular attire, when he picked up chopsticks, his sleeve slid down, revealing arms full of scars.

Jiang Zhaoxue was stunned and couldn’t help but say, “Why are your hands covered in wounds?”

“My body too.” Ming’s eyes lifted as he asked directly, “Want to see?”

These words made Shen Yuqing frown. Pei Zichen also looked displeased.

Jiang Zhaoxue sensed the youth’s sharpness and smiled: “No need. I was just asking—you’re such a young child…”

Before finishing, Jiang Zhaoxue realized he wasn’t a young child—he was an assassin.

To be an assassin at this age, he must not have lived an ordinary life.

Unable to find words, she could only proactively serve him food, urging: “Eat more meat.”

Ming was silent, only lowering his head to eat meat as if he had never eaten a meal before.

Jiang Zhaoxue felt pity and served him food. Shen Yuqing, sitting beside her, reminded: “You eat first.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue turned back and saw Shen Yuqing had served her fish.

Seeing the fish, Jiang Zhaoxue’s expression changed slightly. Having eaten fish all night in her dream, seeing it now, she truly couldn’t eat it.

She casually ate two bites and quickly said to Shen Yuqing, who was about to serve more: “No need to serve more. Just leave it there for now.”

Shen Yuqing paused and looked up at her sharply: “Why?”

“I ate too much yesterday…” Jiang Zhaoxue spoke vaguely and quickly said, “I’ll eat vegetables, light vegetables.”

Shen Yuqing didn’t speak. After thinking, he raised his hand to serve her the vegetables she was reaching for, placing them on her plate, saying flatly, “Vegetables are fine too. Just say what you want to eat.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue smiled awkwardly.

Pei Zichen beside them silently watched, saying nothing.

After finishing the meal shortly, Pei Shulan arrived.

As soon as she entered, Ming looked up and watched her quietly.

Sensing this, Pei Shulan asked curiously, “Who is this?”

“The child we caught from the Blissful Longevity Cult that I mentioned before,” Shen Yuqing explained. “Temporarily settled here.”

“Oh.” Pei Shulan understood, looking at Ming with some pity and sighing: “Such a young child… already an assassin?”

With that, Pei Shulan walked forward, trying to pull Ming’s hand. Ming instinctively withdrew. Pei Shulan stiffened awkwardly and smiled: “Sorry, I saw the wounds on your hands. I have a child—if he were alive, he’d be about your age…”

As she spoke, Pei Shulan grew sad again. She withdrew her hand and turned to look at Jiang Zhaoxue, smiling: “Never mind. Let’s discuss how to settle the people in the residence first.”

Pei Shulan paid no more attention to Ming. Ming placed the hand she had touched behind him, trembling slightly.

Pei Zichen glanced once and silently moved to Ming’s side to shield him.

The Li Residence mainly needed to settle the two children, Li Nianxiu and Li Siji, but they couldn’t let two children go alone. After discussion, Pei Shulan decided to send the stewards and servants first.

Pei Shulan valued children highly and attended to every detail.

Ming stood to the side listening to their discussion, his expression distant.

After Jiang Zhaoxue finished discussing with Pei Shulan, she thought aloud: “Stewards and servants total twelve people. My husband and disciple going to Jiang Zhou should take half a day per trip. They can bring four people at once. For twelve people, it will take at least three days…”

“That won’t do.” Hearing this, Shen Yuqing immediately said, “We can take more time. I’ll stay, Zichen can go.”

Jiang Zhaoxue looked up at the standing Pei Zichen. He looked at the ground, showing no emotion. But Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t want to delay further and shook her head: “No need. I will protect Mu Jinyue well.”

“I was talking about you,” Shen Yuqing frowned. “You’re a fate master.”

“I’ll send you messages.”

Jiang Zhaoxue immediately said, “If real danger comes, with your abilities, can’t you just tear open a space portal and come over? It’s just the hassle of returning to the True Immortal Realm and coming back. But the lives of me and your little disciple,” Jiang Zhaoxue smiled, “should be worth Immortal Master Shen taking one trip, right?”

When she coaxed people, she had her ways. Shen Yuqing couldn’t handle it and turned his head away, only saying, “You’re too bold.”

“It’s that we don’t have much time.”

Jiang Zhaoxue became serious: “Let’s decide this. Starting today, you and Pei Zichen begin. Work as much as your stamina allows. Lady Pei, prepare the Profound Azure Stone and clear all the checkpoints. Once Lady Pei is ready, we’ll send the young master and young miss over, then immediately depart.”

“Message me every half hour.” Shen Yuqing spoke.

Jiang Zhaoxue paused, sighed helplessly, and nodded: “Fine.”

The matter was thus settled. That day, Pei Zichen and Shen Yuqing departed.

Afterward, Pei Shulan followed Ming’s guidance, searching for Profound Azure Stone while finding people from the Blissful Longevity Cult who collected it.

Everyone was busy, leaving only Jiang Zhaoxue, Mu Jinyue, and Ming with nothing to do.

Jiang Zhaoxue’s teaching spirit arose. She decided to instruct the two children. She first examined Mu Jinyue’s spiritual roots and found they still hadn’t fully recovered. She couldn’t help but find it strange: “Is Spirit Extinguishing Powder this strong? Didn’t you get the antidote?”

“This disciple doesn’t know either.” Mu Jinyue shook her head, then thought about it and smiled bitterly: “But this disciple’s spiritual roots are mixed spiritual roots anyway, of no real use. On the cultivation path, it’s only Master’s insistence.”

“That’s for sure.” Jiang Zhaoxue glanced at her, feeling she was indeed somewhat similar to Pei Zichen.

How hateful the male and female leads were!

If it were anyone else, who would care about her? Only because she was the female lead and met Shen Yuqing—of all his other talented disciples, he managed none, looked after none, only focusing on her with her mixed spiritual roots. In the book, after digging out her Heavenly Tribulation Wood spiritual root and giving it to Mu Jinyue, Mu Jinyue’s comprehension proved excellent, and she leaped to become the first female immortal. But now…

“So what does your master plan to do?” Jiang Zhaoxue was curious.

He’d better not still be eyeing her spiritual roots.

“I don’t know.” Mu Jinyue shook her head, then said, “But Master said once we obtain the Divine Severing Sword, he’ll give me a set of heavenly spiritual roots.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue’s heart tensed. She smiled: “I see. Zeyuan is really good to you.”

“Master’s Wife, please don’t mind,” Mu Jinyue quickly said upon hearing this. “This disciple is just…”

“It doesn’t matter.” Jiang Zhaoxue interrupted her, smiling. “I don’t care. Young Master Ming,” Jiang Zhaoxue turned to look at Ming beside her, “What about you? What do you want to learn?”

“I want to cultivate immortality.”

Ming said calmly, “I want to learn from the very basics.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue looked him up and down and shook her head: “You can’t cultivate. You don’t have spiritual roots.”

“I want to learn.”

Ming was very determined. Jiang Zhaoxue had no choice. Since she had nothing else to do anyway, she began teaching.

Whether he could use it was one thing, but knowing it wouldn’t hurt.

So Jiang Zhaoxue taught the children for a day. That evening, Pei Zichen and Shen Yuqing rested in Jiang Zhou and didn’t return. When Jiang Zhaoxue closed her eyes to dream, she dreamed of Jiang Zhou.

Pei Zichen sat on the beach playing a flute. She stood behind him, feeling the sea breeze rushing at her face, as if she were truly in Jiang Zhou.

“Master’s Wife, has it been a long time since you’ve seen the sea?”

Pei Zichen spoke. Jiang Zhaoxue was puzzled: “Why ask this?”

“Penglai is an island. I heard you haven’t returned in many years.” Pei Zichen turned to gaze at the shore, saying slowly, “I wanted to let you see it.”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. She silently watched this long-missed sea, hearing Pei Zichen say, “Oh, and this.”

With that, he handed over a glowing conch shell.

Jiang Zhaoxue was curious: “What is this?”

“A luminous conch. I just found it. They say people can seal their voice inside. Only after the person who left the voice dies will the voice from their life be heard. If you want one, write to me with a voice transmission jade tablet.”

Jiang Zhaoxue was stunned. She saw Pei Zichen’s eyes carry some bitterness: “Today I kept hearing Master’s Wife sending voice transmissions to Master. I… am very unwilling.”

With that, Pei Zichen walked forward.

Starlight fell on him. He stopped before Jiang Zhaoxue, gazing at her: “Master’s Wife, I don’t ask for much. One voice transmission to him, one word to me—is that acceptable?”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. He lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead.

The sea breeze carried summer night starlight. Jiang Zhaoxue watched him scatter under the starry sky. When she slowly woke, her heart pounded.

After a long while, she took a deep breath, pulled out the voice transmission jade tablet, hesitated again and again, but still wrote: “If you encounter a luminous conch, bring one back for me.”

She immediately received Pei Zichen’s message, which read: “Just found one. Will present it to you upon return.”

Looking at this message, Jiang Zhaoxue laughed in exasperation.

“The deception is so perfunctory.”

She couldn’t help but curse under her breath.

A’Nan beside her was arranging his blanket and reminded: “It’s fine. He treats you like a fool, and you can continue being foolish.”

“Shut up.”

Jiang Zhaoxue sighed, but she knew there wasn’t much she could do now.

Moreover…

She held the voice transmission jade tablet, thinking of the moment she saw the sea just now.

Ocean waves rose—her heart was like the sea.

The next few days passed very peacefully.

Each day she only needed to send a message every half hour to report safety. One voice transmission to Shen Yuqing, one message to Pei Zichen.

With regular messaging established, Shen Yuqing’s temper improved considerably. He even brought her gifts. She just became somewhat busier, having to deal with two people after all.

Three days later, Pei Shulan found the Profound Azure Stone and negotiated with the Blissful Longevity Cult’s buyer. She used the lowest quote, requesting to personally deliver the goods into the Holy Pool to receive purification.

This requirement was the ultimate goal of all Blissful Longevity Cult believers. The buyer found it unsurprising and readily agreed.

After receiving approval, Pei Shulan brought back the documents and told everyone: “It’s done. At the latest, tomorrow. If needed, we can depart later this evening.”

To depart today meant sending Li Nianxiu and Li Siji away this morning.

Everyone didn’t hesitate. Shen Yuqing and Pei Zichen immediately prepared to take the last two children and servants.

“I’ll have my Dao companion leave three sword intents in the defensive formation.” Seeing Pei Shulan still uneasy, Jiang Zhaoxue added more assurances: “He’s an Integration Stage cultivator. You can rest assured.”

Hearing this “Dao companion,” Shen Yuqing was quite pleased, his aura warming.

Pei Zichen glanced sideways, silently touching the jade pendant at his waist.

After Jiang Zhaoxue and Pei Shulan finished discussing, Pei Zichen and Shen Yuqing departed with the people.

After settling Li Nianxiu and Li Siji, Shen Yuqing left three sword intents, then called for Pei Zichen to leave.

However, Pei Zichen didn’t immediately depart.

He circled to the back of the Li Residence and set down three more sword intents.

The moment his sword intent emerged, Shen Yuqing appeared beside him, frowning as he demanded: “What are you doing?”

“This disciple has old ties with the Li Residence and wishes to do what little I can.” Pei Zichen answered neither humbly nor arrogantly. “Therefore, I specially added three more sword intents.”

Shen Yuqing didn’t speak. He stared at Pei Zichen, seeming to want to see something in this disciple.

However, Pei Zichen’s aura was too stable, his expression gentle. Nothing could be discerned.

After a long while, Jiang Zhaoxue’s voice transmission broke the standoff.

“Shen Yuqing,” Jiang Zhaoxue urged, “Are you done?”

Receiving the transmission, Shen Yuqing’s expression improved. He immediately said, “Coming back right away.”

Pei Zichen stared at Shen Yuqing’s figure, unable to control a bit of killing intent.

Only when his voice transmission jade tablet lit up did his expression ease. He lowered his head and smiled, taking out the jade tablet to see Jiang Zhaoxue’s words urging: “Hurry back.”

Before leaving, he turned back to look at the Li Residence, still silently sending three streams of dark energy over.

As the two rushed back one after the other, Jiang Zhaoxue finished sending her message and began organizing things.

Ming beside her held a book scroll, quietly reading with an indifferent expression. When Jiang Zhaoxue put away her jade tablet, he finally spoke: “You really know how to deceive people.”

“How is this deception?”

Jiang Zhaoxue turned back strangely, arguing: “I’m just being fair.”

“Why be fair?” Ming spoke mockingly. “One is your husband, one is your husband’s disciple. What need for fairness between them?”

Jiang Zhaoxue stiffened.

Ming continued: “You know their thoughts clearly. You also know clearly what your current messages mean. You just want to stabilize them. If this isn’t deception, what is it?”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak.

After a long while, she smiled, walked to Ming’s side, half-crouched down, and looked him over: “You’re young, but you have quite a few schemes, don’t you?”

“Not as many as you.”

“Draw out the map.”

Jiang Zhaoxue directly tossed paper and brush to him, standing up: “Mind less of adults’ business.”

“But you need me.”

Ming spoke. Jiang Zhaoxue looked over questioningly and saw Ming lift his eyelids: “If you want to stabilize them, the simplest method isn’t balance, but giving them a common target to work toward together.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhaoxue understood his meaning.

“How about me?”

Ming looked up at her: “As long as you put all your attention on me, they won’t have internal conflict.”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. She quietly looked at the person before her.

After thinking for a long while, she walked back and crouched before him.

This time her expression was extraordinarily solemn. She looked at him seriously: “Child, I know what you want to do. I know you truly want to survive. Stop here. I won’t pursue what you did before. When I finish everything, I’ll let you go.”

“Oh? You’re this good to me?”

Jiang Zhaoxue didn’t speak. After thinking for a long while, she said with some regret: “You’re very similar to someone I knew.”

Hearing this, Ming’s eyes trembled. Jiang Zhaoxue said in a low voice: “That child—I personally gave him a name. We had quite deep ties. I actually had many chances to save him, but I kept missing opportunities. The last time… he asked me to save him. I told him to wait. With this wait… I never had another chance to make it up to him.”

Hearing her words, anger rose in Ming’s eyes. He stared at her intently: “So you’re treating me as his substitute?”

“If you want to think that way, you can.” Jiang Zhaoxue smiled. “Seeing you, I always feel familiar. As long as you don’t harm us, I’ll definitely protect you.”

With that, Jiang Zhaoxue stood. Ming suddenly spoke: “Then can you be a bit better to me?”

Ming spoke. Jiang Zhaoxue was somewhat confused: “Better?”

“I’m very envious of the Li family’s children.” Ming smiled. “They have a mother to protect and cherish them, have you all to escort them, fine clothes and jade food, family all around. But what about me?”

Ming’s eyes trembled lightly, suppressing all longing as he looked at Jiang Zhaoxue before him: “It’s been so long since anyone has hugged me.”

Jiang Zhaoxue paused. She realized Ming’s request.

She thought about it and chuckled: “I know your request has purpose, but child—”

With that, she opened her arms and pulled him into her embrace.

Ming’s entire person lunged forward into her arms, then stiffened.

Jiang Zhaoxue held him, whispering in his ear: “I’ll give you one chance to be willful.”

Ming froze in terror in her arms. Jiang Zhaoxue turned her head to look at the two people who had arrived at the doorway.

Shen Yuqing frowned. Pei Zichen’s expression was cold.

Jiang Zhaoxue smiled slightly: “You’re back?”
