Chapter 923: A Beautiful Dream

When Zhoumo came to find me, she was swinging the iron rod in her hand and happened to see Jiang Ruoxue walking out with three thugs.

When those three thugs saw that the newcomer was also a pretty girl, they were about to hit on her, but were frightened by Zhoumo’s aura and could only reluctantly pull Jiang Ruoxue away.

Seeing this scene, Zhoumo’s brows instantly twisted into the character “川.”

“Tsk… what the hell is this?”

Zhoumo was about to step forward to ask about the situation, but Jiang Ruoxue turned back and gave her a meaningful look, forcibly causing her footsteps to retreat.

Only after the four people had walked far away did Zhoumo helplessly enter the room, looking at me with an indignant expression: “Tsk, is there some kind of arrangement? Why wouldn’t that bitch Jiang Ruoxue let me smash their heads?”

“I don’t know either…” I sighed and said, “It’s also strange to say. Ruoxue had anticipated this kind of situation before. She said that no matter what she does, it’s all an ‘effect,’ and the reason is that she wants to make herself a little happier, so I have no way to stop her.”

“But she doesn’t need to find these weird species for that, tsk.” Zhoumo obviously couldn’t understand. “I thought there was some tactic involved.”

“Tactic…?” I thought about it and felt that this possibility wasn’t impossible either. “Perhaps, but I just feel that as long as Ruoxue can be happy…”

Although I didn’t want to say this, everyone’s body would refresh within ten days. Even if Jiang Ruoxue associated with people who looked this filthy, ten days later she would start anew.

In this godforsaken place, all physical trauma would disappear, but psychological trauma would never fade.

So I really hoped Jiang Ruoxue could become happy.

In the “Land of the End,” no one would be defeated by illness or scars, yet there were always people who went insane due to psychological trauma.

“Tsk, so what should I say…” Zhoumo said to me with furrowed brows. “Does that bitch still count as ‘Extreme Path’ now? Do I still need to tell her about those strong people on my list?”

Zhoumo threw the iron rod to the side, nodded, and walked aside to use voice transmission. Her voice wasn’t loud, and I couldn’t hear clearly. I could only hear her muttering “Damn, I forgot again” from time to time.

My heart was also in chaos. Although I knew that with Jiang Ruoxue’s experience, dealing with those few small-time thugs wasn’t a difficult matter, I always felt that something was about to happen.

“Tsk, that bitch still knows what’s important.” Zhoumo said. “She’s noted down the list, and also said she’ll take those three pitiful souls to participate in ‘Earth-level’ games to try their luck.”

“Is that so… that’s good…” I said with my head lowered.

“What the hell happened to that bitch?” Zhoumo spat on the ground. “Not only did she disappear for so long, but as soon as we meet, she pulls this stunt.”

I helplessly pulled Zhoumo to sit aside, then told her what Jiang Ruoxue had said to me, and also told her everything that happened in “Jade City.”

A city with nearly ten thousand inhabitants—due to internal conflict, half were reduced. Later, due to “Ascension,” another half disappeared. In the end, only about twenty people survived.

The more I spoke, the sadder I became. Although I was merely telling the story of “Jade City,” I kept thinking about those other three cities that had disappeared.

Four of the five cities had disappeared, leaving only “Dao City” where we were located still normal.

No, I suddenly had a thought…

From the perspective of Heavenly-Dragon and Qinglong, those four cities were the ones that had become “normal.” After all, the original inhabitants living there had forgotten they were in the “Land of the End.” They had “normal lives” and weren’t counted in the cycles.

They were born, aged, fell ill, and died there until their lives ended. In their eyes, everything here was just like real life.

What a beautiful dream, wasn’t it?

Now it seemed that “Dao City” was the most insane one… All of us were living completely different lives from normal people. The “original inhabitants” lived in “reality,” while we lived in the bizarre.

Not only did we die here, but we also came back to life here. Our memories came and went, and supernatural abilities covered our entire beings.

Not only did we look very strange, but we even wanted to forget that we were “human.”

Considering all these points, which aspect of us resembled “normal people”?

We claimed to be normal, yet we had always been doing the most insane things.

Anyone who looked at us would think we were a bunch of lunatics.

“Dao City” was precisely a story belonging to a bunch of lunatics.

“Tsk, just because of a bunch of strangers, Jiang Ruoxue turned herself into this ghostly state?” Zhoumo clearly couldn’t understand. “She’s grieving over other people’s life and death, and not living her own life?”

But I knew that it was precisely because of this that Jiang Ruoxue was who she was.

This deep sorrow had even infected me. I didn’t know what kind of thing I really was.

If one day Baiyang really took over this place, would I become a monster that killed at will alongside him?

Would I become one of the “Heavenly” beings?

No matter what… I had chosen a path that gradually turned me into a monster. I only hoped this path wouldn’t lead to destruction.

My expression gradually became sorrowful, as if I saw my own future covered in blood and flesh.

“Tsk, damn it…” Zhoumo cursed lightly. “Both of you putting on long faces—who are you showing this to? Having you two bitches is really a blessing I earned through eight lifetimes.”

Zhoumo grumbled as she pulled something square out of her pocket and unceremoniously handed it forward.

I took it and looked—it was a semi-transparent cubic crystal.

“What is this?” I asked.

“White granulated sugar I found a while ago.” Zhoumo said. “Wang Ba used ‘Gigantification’ on it. Eat it, I didn’t poison it.”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry looking at this strange white sugar cube. It was more regular in shape than rock candy and had a more transparent texture.

“Zhoumo, are you trying to tell me ‘eating something sweet will improve your mood’?” I asked.

“No, I simply want to kill you with sweetness.” Zhoumo said. “Tsk, why so much nonsense? No wonder I hate you and Jiang Ruoxue the most. You two bitches each have your own bitchiness. Damn it, ever since I met you two, I haven’t had a single good day.”

“Thank you, Zhoumo.” I said. “No wonder Ruoxue would always pester you. You’re a very good person.”

“Tsk, isn’t that sickening?” Zhoumo curled her lip. “Originally I was planning to just crash here for a bit and then immediately go back to work, but now seeing your state, I can’t leave. Tonight I’ll reluctantly keep you company, really afraid you’ll die as soon as I leave.”

Zhoumo’s personality was truly strange. What she said and what she actually did were completely different, yet it made people feel inexplicably at ease.

I stayed with her in the building for a night. Although it was supposed to be keeping me company, Zhoumo’s state was very much like a female boss.

She kept “making phone calls” the whole time. One moment she was directing members of the “Cat” team to take orders and do business, the next moment she was arranging some veteran members of “Extreme Path” to take on sabotage missions. Listening from the side, I almost had a personality split.

Only then did I realize that without Jiang Ruoxue and Zhoumo bearing the weight for me as they moved forward, “Extreme Path” couldn’t possibly have reached today’s scale.

Until the afternoon of the second day, when Zhoumo was using voice transmission to contact Jiang Ruoxue, she suddenly became much more talkative.

“What do you mean ‘speak of the devil and he appears’—you encountered him?” Zhoumo said, pressing her finger against her ear. “I heard that person is very strong… since you’ve encountered him, you must thoroughly test his abilities.”
