Chapter 115: Disfigurement

“Shu’er…”

She slowly opened her eyes. A handsome face appeared a meter away from her. That young master stood beneath the plum blossom tree, smiling gently at her.

“Ji Pei?”

She couldn’t believe it!

Her steps rushed forward, but the distance between herself and Ji Pei grew farther and farther.

“Shu’er, Shu’er…”

Ji Pei called to her again and again, the smile on his face growing more intense.

Yet the distance between them grew greater and greater. Ji Yunshu reached out her hand trying to grasp him, but what responded to her was only cold air.

The next moment, her body suddenly plummeted into an abyss, and before her eyes, a wave of darkness struck!

“Li’an? Li’an?”

She was awakened by a man’s deep voice.

Opening her eyes, the huge, penetrating white light above her head stung her eyes, making them open and close repeatedly before slowly adjusting.

What came into view were five or six people wearing surgical gowns and masks, surrounding her. Pairs of eyes stared intently at her, and above her head was a large circular lamp.

Only then did she understand—she was in an operating room!

“Li’an.”

A man gently touched her shoulder.

She looked sideways. That familiar face, between the brows, carried deep worry, and desolate eyes were looking at her.

“Dad?”

Her parched throat produced a faint sound.

Was this a dream? Had she returned?

“Li’an! Li’an!”

The man kept calling her name.

She wanted to reach out and touch his face, but her entire body had no strength.

Her vision also gradually blurred amidst those repeated calls of “Li’an.”

“Dad… Dad…”

She kept calling from her mouth, but everything before her eyes became more and more illusory, gradually becoming a transparent shadow.

At this moment, she was extremely frightened, her eyes filled with terror.

“Dad! Dad!”

She shouted loudly, her body like an unbridled wild horse, suddenly bouncing up to sit on the bed.

Her forehead was covered in nervous sweat, a pair of terrified eyes wide open, breathing lightly.

Her vision also changed from transparent white to clear.

This was an unfamiliar room, spacious and bright, with neatly arranged redwood furniture. From the four corners of the carved wooden bed hung light-colored gauze curtains, gently blowing.

So it was a dream!

“Shu’er?”

Wei Yi’s voice sounded at her side.

He seemed somewhat startled, his body also shrinking back the instant Ji Yunshu suddenly sat up.

Ji Yunshu’s face was pale, her small lips also dry and pallid. She slowly turned her head and only then saw Wei Yi.

“Wei Yi?”

“Shu’er, what’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?”

“Where is this?” Her voice was weak.

“This is brother’s home, Guangqu Courtyard.”

Her pale lips softly repeated, “How did I end up here? I… how long have I been asleep?”

“Three days now.”

“Three days?”

“Yes.”

Question and answer!

Ji Yunshu raised her hand to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead, then remembered and asked him, “Then how are you here? Your parents’ matter…”

Before she finished, Wei Yi hastily answered.

His expression somewhat sorrowful, holding back tears in his eyes. “Father and Mother have already been buried. Uncle Fu said he would handle the matters that follow. I wanted to come find you, Shu’er, and brother brought me over. Shu’er, are you ill?”

“I…”

“You mustn’t be ill, Shu’er. You cannot be ill.” Wei Yi looked extremely anxious.

Ji Yunshu reached out to grasp his trembling arms, shaking her head. “I’m not ill, Wei Yi. Don’t be afraid.”

“Mm.” He nodded, wrinkled his nose, feeling sour again.

Ji Yunshu patted his head, lifted the blanket, and dragged her somewhat exhausted, heavy body out of bed.

Her steps seemed glued, slowly walking toward the vanity. Only when the mirror reflected her slender body did she stop.

A white silk crossed-collar shirt, wide sleeves hanging at her sides, the hem falling at her ankles, perfectly accentuating her slender, graceful figure.

But in that yellowish bronze mirror still reflected her pale face, and on her left cheek, that dark red long scar.

Extending from cheekbone to jaw, clearly visible. Though there was no flesh turned outward, no hideous horror, it still made this originally delicate face appear somewhat ugly.

In three days’ time, this scar, treated with medicine, didn’t hurt at all, and had already formed a layer of dark red scab.

Yet her reaction seemed not as distressed as she had imagined. Having her appearance ruined seemed to her a rather indifferent matter.

She raised her hand, gently touching this scar on her face, the corners of her mouth actually pulling into a slight smile.

Without Ji Pei, what did appearance matter to her?

Her heart was what had truly died.

After a long while, she turned around, pointing at the scar on her face.

“Are you afraid?”

Wei Yi shook his head. “Not afraid. Shu’er shouldn’t be afraid either. Brother said he would use every method to cure you.”

“It cannot be cured.”

“It definitely can be cured.” Wei Yi grew slightly anxious, stepping forward. “Even if the scar on Shu’er’s face cannot be removed, I won’t despise Shu’er.”

“Thank you, Wei Yi.”

He blinked his eyes, saying very seriously, “Shu’er doesn’t need to thank me. I just like Shu’er and want to be good to you.”

Those words were sincere and genuine!

How fortunate one must be to have such a pure and kind person by one’s side.

Ji Yunshu smiled, yet it added a few degrees of pale beauty to this disfigured face.

She suddenly asked him, “Wei Yi, do you want to go to the capital?”

“The capital? What kind of place is that?”

What kind of place?

“I don’t know either.” A few light words overflowed from her lips.

But she knew well—it was a tiger’s den, a treacherous place, without Jinjiang’s peaceful prosperity, without the simple meals of small households.

But in the end, the small, peaceful Jinjiang City, though comfortable, could also cost lives. How was it different from the capital?

After all, human hearts existed everywhere!

But this truth, she seemed to have understood somewhat late.

Wei Yi pressed his lips together, anxiously speaking, “Wherever Shu’er goes, I’ll go. I don’t want to be separated from Shu’er. If you go to the capital, I want to go too. Is that alright?”

His eyes carried longing!

Before Madam Wei died, she had promised her she would definitely take good care of Wei Yi.

Though she herself was riddled with wounds, Ji Pei was dead, and her heart had turned to ashes.

But she could not abandon Wei Yi. She could not break her promise to Madam Wei.

She gently nodded. “I promise you, no matter where I go in the future, I will definitely take you with me.”

“Shu’er is the best.”

Wei Yi’s slightly swollen but still peaceful eyes looked at her, and at the corners of his mouth appeared a rare trace of a smile.

As if in his eyes, he simply could not distinguish Ji Yunshu’s beauty or ugliness. Or perhaps, in his eyes, no matter what Ji Yunshu’s appearance was like, she was the most beautiful woman in his heart.

She was the wife he had decided upon!
