Chapter 33: Bugs, Hide Quickly

Bai Youwei turned away, wanting to vomit.

Her stomach churned in waves, but nothing came out.

On the other side, the tremors had subsided. Unknown how many died or were injured. Those who survived stood in the mud in shock, faces full of bewilderment.

That tall, thin Hui Ge was remarkably brave, shouting at everyone: “What the hell are you all standing around for?! Search! Only 20 seconds! Damn it!”

Only then did people snap back to reality, searching nearby for the ball.

“Search this direction.” Shen Mo suddenly spoke, exceptionally calm. “The last splash was in this area.”

The area Shen Mo indicated had about a dozen craters, which reduced the search range by at least two-thirds.

Tan Xiao was closest and charged to the front without hesitation.

Hui Ge froze, then immediately ran over, bringing his two lackeys to search for the ball together.

These several men who had fought fiercely last night could now unite for survival.

But as time passed, the craters were collapsing and being buried. They couldn’t tell where the golden ball was at all. The men could only use all their strength to scoop out mud.

Handful after handful of loose, watery mud—they couldn’t touch anything hard.

Bai Youwei watched them from afar.

Then she turned her head to look at the corpse that had sunk into the mud.

Her frightened heart was slowly calming…

A familiar sense of excitement faintly rose from the bottom of her heart.

Not that she was happy about dead people—she wasn’t that twisted.

Just that, like last time, it was like participating in an extreme sport. She would feel fear, would tremble, would be anxious and uneasy, but would also have some anticipation.

Before she could figure out the reason for this internal change, a childish voice came from the cave, with a gloating tone—

“The frog is coming, bugs hide quickly!”

Everyone froze.

Immediately, the ground shook and the mud soup trembled violently!

A golden ball rolled out from the churning muddy water—

“It’s there!” Someone shouted excitedly. “Quick!…”

But greater tremors came from underfoot. The entire mud pit almost seemed to boil. Everyone fell or rolled, unable to stabilize their center of gravity, let alone touch that gradually receding golden ball!

Large masses of mud surged up, then slid down in large sheets. A giant creature finally appeared before everyone!

Its body was like a five or six-story building!

Its color was a paint-like vivid green!

Its eyes bulged high! Its extremely wide and long mouth occupied almost half its head!

It was a frog!

The frog the Monitor had delayed mentioning had finally arrived!

Someone screamed in terror: “Run!!!—”

Before the words finished, people had already scattered in all directions!

But with mud everywhere, how could they run fast?

Also, not everyone was fleeing. Some people were completely stunned, staring blankly at the behemoth before them, minds blank, legs refusing to obey.

Bai Youwei saw the frog open its mouth.

A tongue extended from its mouth.

Bright red in color, covered in slippery mucus, it shot out like a red rubber band, stretching longer and longer, then with a snap stuck to a woman struggling in the mud pit—

That half-second was extremely brief, yet Bai Youwei felt as if a full minute had passed.

She saw the woman’s expression freeze the moment she was stuck. Then the tongue retracted like lightning! The woman didn’t even have time to make a sound before disappearing into that wide mouth!

Gulp.

Swallowed down…

Bai Youwei’s entire body went numb.

Like being pierced by countless needles, her whole body hurt! And her whole body was cold!

The fleeing people had no idea what was happening behind them, still moving their legs, pushing through the mud, desperately seeking cover!

And the frog’s tongue was right behind them, rapidly shooting out and retracting, retracting and shooting out, like catching a swarm of headless flies, eating with extreme satisfaction!

The frog is coming, bugs hide quickly.

Bai Youwei slowly clenched her hands tight.

The Frog’s Golden Ball—so this was what it meant…
