Chapter 68: Some Academy

Finding the survivors’ shelter was urgently needed, but Shen Mo equally wanted to understand what exactly had happened in Yangzhou City.

He drove the car following those two boys until they arrived at a school.

Several characters had fallen off the school’s sign, making it difficult to read: Yang[口口口] Academy.

Shen Mo drove in.

The car moved slowly while the boys ran hurriedly. They jogged toward the dormitory building. Some students came out from the dormitory to meet them, along with a female teacher in her thirties or forties who looked tall, thin, refined, and respectable.

The two boys rushed up to the female teacher, saying something while pointing at Shen Mo’s direction.

Shen Mo: “……”

Tan Xiao said: “Hey! Those little brats are tattling, aren’t they?”

The female teacher glanced in their direction, seemingly quite wary as well, then gathered the group of students and went into the dormitory building.

Shen Mo parked the car below the dormitory building, saying: “Let’s rest here for now. Tan Xiao, move the supplies. We’ll go look for gasoline later.”

Tan Xiao acknowledged and nimbly jumped out of the car, then asked: “Where should I move the stuff?”

“First floor. Pick two dorm rooms.” Shen Mo pointed casually, then took the wheelchair down from the car.

Teacher Cheng, being older, also helped carry some smaller items.

As they moved things in and out, a dozen students crowded against the railings on the third and fourth floor corridors, all craning their necks to watch. Their gazes held both curiosity and wariness, like a group of stray cats startled by passersby, tensing up unnecessarily.

When Shen Mo lifted Bai Youwei into the wheelchair, faint gasps came from upstairs, as if they’d witnessed something remarkable.

Bai Youwei’s mood had already been poor. Hearing these sounds now made her absolutely furious. She immediately looked up and glared fiercely at them—

“What are you looking at! Never seen a cripple before?! Keep staring and I’ll gouge out your eyeballs!”

Several timid students backed away repeatedly.

Bai Youwei then pointed at Tan Xiao: “Didn’t you say yesterday you hadn’t killed enough? Go up and slaughter them all!”

The students’ faces changed drastically. Like startled crows and sparrows, they scattered! Then came several banging sounds of doors closing—everyone hid in the dorms! Locking their doors!

Tan Xiao: “???”

Shen Mo: “……”

Teacher Cheng became anxious, hurriedly raising his voice to shout upstairs: “Oh, don’t be afraid, we’re just joking with you, just joking! We’re not bad people!……”

Bai Youwei smiled sinisterly: “Yes, just joking. Teacher Cheng, you must coax them out properly, then have Tan Xiao slaughter them all!”

Teacher Cheng: “……”

“Enough, stop making trouble.” Shen Mo’s tone was flat but contained a trace of helplessness.

He pushed Bai Youwei into the student dormitory, with a tone suggesting reconciliation: “Didn’t you say you didn’t sleep enough? I’ll take down the mattress for you. You rest for a while.”

Bai Youwei snorted coldly: “Forget it. This kind of bunk bed won’t fit my mattress at all.”

Shen Mo surveyed the dormitory environment. “We can push two beds together.”

Bai Youwei glanced at him. Her mood seemed not quite so terrible anymore. She raised her chin proudly: “Fine then. Go ahead and push them together for me now.”

……

When Shen Mo came out of the dorm room, Teacher Cheng was outside anxiously pacing in circles. As soon as he saw Shen Mo, he hurried forward: “Little Shen, about this situation…”

Shen Mo knew what Teacher Cheng wanted to say and spoke up: “I’ll go upstairs in a bit to explain to them. Don’t worry.”

After a pause, he added: “Those things she said just now—don’t take them to heart either.”

“I won’t, I won’t.” Teacher Cheng quickly waved his hands. “I know Weiwei meant no harm. She’s a good girl…”

Shen Mo: “……”

No, she did have malicious intent.

At this moment, footsteps came from the stairwell. Both looked over to find it was that female teacher.

She held a jar in her hands and walked up to Shen Mo and Teacher Cheng, smiling apologetically: “I’m truly sorry. My students were rash and misunderstood you.”

Saying this, she handed over the jar. “Freshly cooked vegetable porridge. If you don’t mind, please take it.”
