Chapter 164: Returning to the Island

Wu Lili couldn’t wait to rush ashore, grabbing Sun Wei and saying everything in one breath:

“There’s no safe base at all! Zhao Jiantao has been deceiving us! Everyone sent to West Mountain Island is dead! All killed by this damned old thing! Zhang Qi is dead too!!!”

Sun Wei froze in place, his face drastically changing. “Lili, you… what are you saying? What happened to Zhang Qi?”

He looked at Zhao Jiantao again: “Uncle Zhao, is what Lili said true?”

Zhao Jiantao’s face was calm, his expression unchanged as he said: “Sun Wei, go gather everyone. I have something to tell everyone.”

“You still have the face to give orders here?!” Wu Lili cursed. “Even kowtowing in apology won’t make anyone forgive you!”

Sun Wei frowned. “…Alright, I’ll call everyone.”

He turned and left.

Wu Lili shouted angrily: “Sun Wei! Why are you still listening to him?! Are your ears deaf?! Zhao Jiantao got everyone killed! Sooner or later he’ll kill us too!!!”

Sun Wei didn’t stop, walking farther and farther away.

Wu Lili bit her lip and stamped her foot, anxiously and angrily chasing after him.

Bai Youwei glanced indifferently at Zhao Jiantao and smiled: “Impressive, Uncle Zhao. No wonder you looked so composed the whole way—turns out you’ve trained everyone well.”

Zhao Jiantao straightened his collar, brushing dust off his pants. His face, deeply wrinkled, showed no expression.

“Can’t call it training. Just knowing a bit more, so leading everyone a bit further down the road, that’s all.” He said calmly.

Bai Youwei, hearing this, was delighted: “After deceiving for so long, you’ve deceived yourself too? Really think you’re some kind of savior? Hahahaha!”

Anger floated in Zhao Jiantao’s eyes.

But fearing the two of them, he ultimately didn’t erupt. He brushed off his clothes and walked away.

Bai Youwei giggled behind him.

Shen Mo watched Zhao Jiantao walk away, his eyes dark and deep. After watching for a while, he grasped the wheelchair handles and said: “Let’s go too.”

When they returned to the hotel, everyone was walking out in chaos. Tan Xiao and Cheng Weicai were also among the crowd. Seeing Shen Mo and Bai Youwei return, they were both very surprised.

“Back so soon?” Tan Xiao said in surprise.

—Before leaving, Shen Mo and Bai Youwei had explained they were going to make a round trip to the safe base and would return with the boat.

Tan Xiao thought it would take at least half a day, but unexpectedly they returned in the afternoon.

“Brother Mo, just now Sun Wei came to notify us, saying we should all go to Uncle Zhao’s place…” Tan Xiao said.

“Let’s go back to the room first.” Shen Mo said flatly, pushing Bai Youwei toward the room.

Tan Xiao couldn’t figure it out. He exchanged glances with Teacher Cheng, who also looked confused.

Tan Xiao glanced at the crowd gradually walking out, scratched his head, quickened his steps to catch up, then leaned close to Bai Youwei to ask: “Weiwei, what exactly happened?”

Bai Youwei: “Call me sister.”

“Aye~” Tan Xiao complied smoothly. “Sister Weiwei, what did you and Brother Mo encounter?”

Bai Youwei looked at him with narrowed eyes. “Two words.”

Tan Xiao: “Ah?”

Bai Youwei: “So exciting~”

Tan Xiao: “…”

While he was in a daze, Shen Mo had already pushed Bai Youwei past.

Tan Xiao came back to his senses, standing behind in confusion and calling out: “But that’s three words?”

Bai Youwei didn’t turn her head: “Weren’t you the one who can’t count!”

“…” Tan Xiao muttered quietly in frustration, “That doesn’t mean I can’t count within ten.”

“Let’s hurry.” Teacher Cheng patted his shoulder. “Let’s hear what they have to say. Something must have happened.”
