Chapter 239: Washing the Dress

Shen Mo was momentarily stunned. “You don’t mind?”

“It’s just a game. What’s there to mind?” Bai Youwei closed her eyes and said slowly, “Besides, this white dress of mine is already worn out. Why wash it…”

Shen Mo: “Even rags can be washed—what’s wrong with washing a dress?”

Bai Youwei: “…”

Her head hurt.

“Taking advantage of my illness and weakness to antagonize me,” Bai Youwei said resentfully. “Take me to the bedroom. I need to rest.”

Shen Mo smiled faintly and carried her to the bedroom.

The three bedrooms were mostly similar. Shen Mo randomly picked one. Inside were many dolls—on the table, floor, windowsill, and bed. He set Bai Youwei down and swept his hand across, brushing the dolls off the bed. Various stuffed dog toys and teddy bears scattered across the floor.

Then he went to the adjacent bedroom and selected three sets of women’s clothing from the wardrobe. They were vintage styles, ornate and exquisite, with complete sets of shoes, socks, and accessories, as if specially prepared for Lolita-style dolls.

Bai Youwei had already collapsed on the bed, drowsy. When Shen Mo returned with the clothes, she half-lifted her eyelids and casually chose a black set.

Shen Mo looked at the other two sets and asked her, “Sure about this one?”

“Mm.” Bai Youwei said feebly, “Matching couple’s outfits.”

“…” Shen Mo looked down at his black T-shirt, momentarily speechless.

He put the remaining two sets of clothes back. When he returned to the bedroom, Bai Youwei had already fallen asleep hugging that black dress. She must have been too uncomfortable, so wrapped in the towel and curled in the blanket, she was a mess and hadn’t even changed into the clothes.

Shen Mo sat down by the bed and pressed his forehead against hers. She was completely oblivious, sleeping quietly.

After the bath, her temperature had dropped slightly—not as scalding as before—but her cheeks still had a red flush, hot to the touch. Her brows were also slightly furrowed, like an irritable little cat.

Shen Mo smoothed the stray hair on her forehead, then stood up and left the room.

He went to the bathroom.

That wet, dirty dress was still there, crumpled in a heap by the washbasin, not much better than a rag.

Shen Mo turned on the faucet to wash the clothes.

He washed very quickly, like a military campaign—efficiently rubbing off the stains, changing to clean water and washing again, wringing it out, shaking it open—

Snap!

Water droplets scattered from the white dress like rain, sparkling brightly.

Shen Mo smiled silently.

It was a bit of a shame the dress was torn, but he thought she looked good in white dresses.

Someone knocked on the door outside. Bang bang bang.

“Who’s in there?” Tan Xiao shouted from outside. “I need to take a bath! I’m covered in mud smell!”

Li Li called from behind: “What will you wear after bathing?!”

“Mind your own business about what I wear! I’m definitely not wearing your clothes anyway!”

“I’m just afraid you’ll blind my eyes when you’re naked, okay?!”

Tan Xiao laughed loudly: “Hahaha, you four-eyed chicken! Without glasses, you’re basically blind anyway!”

Li Li: “Damn!”

The two argued noisily.

Shen Mo opened the door. Tan Xiao outside was startled. “…Brother Mo, you were taking a bath?”

“No.” Shen Mo stepped aside, saying flatly, “Go wash. There’s hot water inside.”

“Oh!”

After Tan Xiao entered the bathroom, Li Li lost his sparring partner. The entire house immediately became much quieter. Even Yan Qingwen showed an expression of finally being able to have some peace.

Shen Mo took the dress downstairs, dragged the old pine wood standing coat rack near the fireplace, and hung the dress on it to dry.

Ten people—one had fallen ill, one was bathing, leaving eight in the downstairs living room, relatively speechless, momentarily silent.

Lü Ang wanted to smoke. He fished out a pack from his pocket—the cigarette box dripped water steadily.

He cursed under his breath and irritably threw the rain-soaked cigarette pack into the fireplace. The red flames sizzled and flickered, then continued burning.

Yan Qingwen said, “Now that everyone’s here, the game still hasn’t started. What do you think the reason might be?”
