Chapter 786: The Wildlife Park — The Ring

A’Shalina was a Cat, which meant she could only attack the enemy’s Mouse and Cat.

The remaining arrows that had missed were all Bai Youwei’s. Some of them were intentionally fired to frighten, but she genuinely hadn’t expected that she couldn’t even graze the hem of their clothing—let alone draw blood.

Bai Youwei glanced upward.

The net hanging in the air was dense and closely woven. Tan Xiao and Shen Mo, trapped inside, could not see what had happened below. Only the rabbit was perched at the edge, peering down with curious eyes.

She pressed her lips together and walked without enthusiasm to the corpse.

The muscle man lay motionless on the ground. Half an arrow shaft jutted from his chest, the area around it thick with blood. This was an iron-tipped arrow from medieval Europe—when drawn with full force, it had tremendous penetrating power, capable of piercing through armored cavalry.

“Is he dead?” Bai Youwei nudged the body with her foot.

A’Shalina gripped the shaft and yanked hard. The arrow came free in a spray of crimson blood, and the body didn’t so much as twitch.

“Looks dead.” She wiped the blood from the arrowhead, clearly a little reluctant to put it down. “This weapon really is useful—it can be brought into the game, and the force behind it is incredible!”

“And what good does that do?” Bai Youwei said dryly. “You can’t attack animals ranked above you, and the thing is bulky—it’s heavy to carry and slows you down. After you’ve fired six or seven arrows, you run out, and then the bow is useless. It’s not like you always get the opportunity to retrieve your arrows, either…”

Hearing Bai Youwei put it that way, A’Shalina felt the weapon in her hands start to seem less impressive.

In television dramas, the hero always carried a small, nimble bow and shot arrows that flew fast and far with extraordinary force—but that was all exaggerated performance. Powerful bows were usually cumbersome. Some even required multiple people to draw.

“I wonder if this guy was a Mouse or a Cat,” A’Shalina muttered, setting the weapon aside.

Bai Youwei said, “Let’s hope Mouse.”

A’Shalina blinked, confused. “Why? Our elephants are already eliminated. Eliminating their Mouse doesn’t seem to accomplish much.”

Bai Youwei smiled and said casually, “One less is still one less~”

A’Shalina was thoroughly baffled. Before she could ask another question, Bai Youwei had already turned and walked away with an easy stride.

Halfway back, they encountered Yu Chaohui, A’Long, and Zhang Yu hurrying toward them. Yu Chaohui immediately demanded, “What happened?! We heard a woman scream just now!”

When the muscle man was shot, the ponytail girl had indeed let out a scream.

Bai Youwei let her gaze pass over the faces before her, then said with a smile, “It’s taken care of. The other side had set up an ambush near the trap—they were planning a surprise attack. A’Shalina hit two of their lower-ranked animals with arrows. The rest fled.”

Yu Chaohui’s brow furrowed, and he said sharply, “You’d just said you were going to check on the trap, and they came running after you. It’s obvious there’s a mole!”

A’Long looked puzzled. “That doesn’t add up though… Sprinting from here to the northern forest to pass on the information and then sprinting back would take considerable time. They arrived way too fast for that.”

A’Shalina said worriedly, “Could it be a tool? Some kind of eavesdropping device?”

Bai Youwei gave a light, breezy smile and looked at them. “If it’s a tool, then it must be on someone’s person—otherwise, how would the other side be able to hear everything I say regardless of where I say it?”

Everyone immediately grew wary, checking their own belongings for anything suspicious, and scrutinizing one another for signs of anything out of the ordinary.

After a moment of searching, A’Long noticed something shining on Zhang Yu’s finger and blurted out, “Zhang Yu, where did that ring on your hand come from?”

Zhang Yu’s gaze flickered. He reflexively covered his hand. “I… I’ve been wearing it since before I entered the game…”

Yu Chaohui’s brow furrowed. He grabbed Zhang Yu’s wrist and wrenched it over, then shoved him down hard!

Zhang Yu fell to his knees, his face draining of color!

“…Don’t—don’t touch me!”
