Su Man followed her gaze and saw her own photograph, immediately feeling embarrassed, and smiled shyly: “Oh, that…… Lu Yuwen took it for me.”
Fang Zixin smiled: “Your temper is really too good. Why didn’t you ask him to take a few more? This photograph is obviously half-hearted — the focus isn’t even on you properly.”
Su Man was momentarily taken aback. She walked closer to look at the photograph and murmured in puzzlement: “……It’s not focused properly?”
“See this spot here.” Fang Zixin casually pointed somewhere. “It’s blurred.”
Why would it be blurred? Of course, because he wasn’t careful enough.
Why wasn’t he careful enough? Because he doesn’t love you enough!
Fang Zixin thought coldly to herself. She was not someone who let people walk all over her easily.
She scrutinized Su Man’s face carefully, not missing a single flicker of expression — yet Su Man showed no sign of hurt or anger. Instead, her face wore a completely sweet expression as she replied:
“I knew he was just coaxing me. He kept saying this was his best work, and that I’m the only perfect one in his eyes, insisting on putting it in the center — but the photo wasn’t even properly focused. That man really is something, always trying to make me happy~”
Fang Zixin: “……”
She was actually putting on quite a convincing act…… It seemed this woman’s level was not low — quite possibly a match for her.
Fang Zixin was beginning to find this tricky.
Ding-dong——
The doorbell rang again.
Su Man went to answer it with some puzzlement, muttering: “Strange, why is there another visitor……”
It shouldn’t be Lu Yuwen — to get back into his own home, he’d just open the door directly. Why would he need to ring the bell?
Su Man opened the front door to find two young men standing outside. She didn’t know their names, but Su Man recognized them as waitstaff from Lu Yuwen’s restaurant.
Both were smiling broadly, and the moment they saw Su Man they called out in unison: “Good day, Madam Boss!”
Su Man burst out laughing and asked: “What are you two doing here?”
“The boss was afraid you might not eat well for lunch, so he specially had the head chef prepare a meal just for you. We’re here to deliver it!”
Su Man said: “So much food — bring it in, quickly.”
The two young men brought the food containers inside, deftly arranged them on the dining table, then briskly took their leave, laughing and calling back to Su Man as they went: “Goodbye, Madam Boss!”
This left Su Man feeling rather awkward — after all, the boss’s ex-girlfriend was right there in the living room.
Su Man looked toward Fang Zixin with some embarrassment and politely asked: “Have you eaten? Would you like to stay for lunch?”
She had only said it as a polite reflex, but the moment it was out she immediately realized it was inappropriate.
Regardless of how you looked at their relationship, the two of them were nowhere close enough to sit and eat together. Saying something so abrupt out of nowhere — the other party must be finding it quite awkward, right?
She could only blame her own loose tongue. Whenever her family had guests at home, her mother would always enthusiastically invite them to stay for a meal with exactly this kind of warmth, and she had heard it so often that she’d picked it up without noticing.
Su Man quickly tried to remedy the situation: “Though, all these dishes that Lu Yuwen arranged were made according to my taste. You’d probably find them not to your liking.”
Fang Zixin: “……”
This woman…… not only did she hit right where it hurt, but every word she said was airtight! If she kept provoking her, there was no telling what other moves were waiting in reserve.
It seemed she was a formidable one indeed.
Never mind……
Since they’d already broken up, why bother tearing off all pretense and competing for the upper hand with someone? What was past, let it pass……
In that moment, Fang Zixin’s fighting spirit deflated completely. She picked up her box of things and felt a crushing, overwhelming wave of discouragement and loss wash over her — an ineffable loneliness.
Fang Zixin forced herself to maintain her composure, said goodbye to Su Man, then silently left Lu Yuwen’s apartment.
She had barely stepped out when Lu Yuwen’s call came right after.
“Has the lunch been delivered?” The man’s voice was full of warmth, gentle and soothing.
“It has.” Su Man replied. “Also — your ex-girlfriend just came by to pick up her things. She left not long ago.”
Lu Yuwen was momentarily startled. “Fang Zixin came?”
“Don’t worry.” Su Man said with a smile. “She’s quite nice. We had a very pleasant time together!”
Lu Yuwen: “Is that so……”
