Chapter 1: The Demon King of Chaos

Luo Sheng stared blankly at the pierced silver incense ball hanging from the emerald bed curtains. Those eyes that usually sparkled with life now appeared somewhat dull and lifeless. Because of this, the chattering of the young maid by her ear grew increasingly louder.

“Miss, it’s just Young Master Su. If you find him pleasing to the eye, just snatch him up. Hanging yourself over him isn’t worth it—boo hoo hoo…”

Luo Sheng shifted her gaze toward the young maid crying at the head of the bed.

This maid was called Hong Dou. She could both talk and cry incessantly. This ear-piercing noise had continued for three days now, enough time for Luo Sheng to roughly understand her current situation.

She was the daughter of the all-powerful Grand Commander Luo. After causing trouble, she had been sent to her maternal grandmother’s household. Here, she had taken a liking to a certain man, and after being politely rejected, she had angrily hanged herself.

Could this person be an idiot?

“Stop crying,” Luo Sheng spoke, her voice hoarse, her throat burning painfully.

The crying stopped abruptly. Hong Dou lifted her head in delighted surprise. “Miss, you’re finally willing to speak—”

Before Hong Dou could say more, the bamboo curtain was suddenly yanked aside as a young girl whirled in like a tornado. Behind her came the startled cries of the maids outside: “Young Miss, the cousin miss is resting—”

The girl who rushed before Luo Sheng pointed at her without courtesy and scolded: “Luo Sheng, do you have no shame at all? Crying, making scenes, and threatening to hang yourself just to get Second Young Master Su—now Grandmother has sent my mother to the Su family to discuss the marriage. You’ve finally gotten your wish, haven’t you?”

Luo Sheng turned her eyes toward the girl whose face was full of anger.

Fourteen or fifteen years old, her cheeks flushed with two rosy patches from fury, vibrant as morning clouds.

Hong Dou immediately jumped up, her anger surpassing even the girl’s: “How dare you speak to our miss this way!”

The girl spat, her eyes full of contempt. “Luo Sheng, others may fear you, but I don’t. If you’re so capable, have those people arrest everyone in the Sheng family.”

The Sheng family maids turned deathly pale at these words. “Young Miss, you should go back. The cousin miss hasn’t fully recovered—”

If they provoked this cousin miss, she might truly order those Jinlin Guards to arrest everyone in the Sheng household.

The Jinlin Guards—ruthless and cold-blooded, they could even act against their own kin. What did the maternal family matter to them?

A clear, bright voice of a young man sounded at the door: “Elder Cousin Sister, what are you doing in my sister’s room?”

The girl looked toward the doorway, her tone unconsciously softening: “Cousin, haven’t you heard that my mother went to the Su family?”

The young man walked in, taking a deep look at the calm-faced Luo Sheng before saying to the girl: “I’ve heard, but this was a decision made by the elders. Even if Elder Cousin Sister comes to find my sister, it won’t help. You should go back.”

The girl’s face showed surprise.

Her cousin was actually taking Luo Sheng’s side?

Although Luo Chen and Luo Sheng were biological siblings, he had come to the Sheng household seven years ago to recuperate. Over these years, everyone in the household had long considered this cousin as one of their own.

When Luo Sheng first arrived some days ago, she had coldly observed her cousin treating this biological sister with indifference. Now, how could he—

Regardless, the girl still gave face to her cousin. Glaring furiously at Luo Sheng, she said: “A marriage snatched through underhanded means—I’ll be waiting to see you and Second Young Master Su in domestic harmony!”

With that, the girl flipped aside the curtain and left.

The bamboo curtain swayed gently, leaving the siblings facing each other.

The twelve or thirteen-year-old boy had rosy lips and white teeth, blessed with fine features. However, his slender frame and pale complexion made him appear somewhat frail.

The young man who had just spoken up for Luo Sheng suddenly turned ice-cold, not concealing the disgust and anger in his eyes. Through gritted teeth, he said: “Luo Sheng, must you throw yourself at every man with a bit of good looks? Can you have even a shred of shame!”

Hong Dou couldn’t help but defend her miss: “Second Young Master Su doesn’t just have ‘a bit’ of good looks.”

Was their miss someone with such low standards? She wouldn’t even glance at someone with merely ‘a bit’ of good looks.

Luo Chen didn’t spare Hong Dou a glance, his eyes still fixed intently on Luo Sheng.

Luo Sheng finally spoke: “You just defended me.”

Her voice was somewhat hoarse from her throat injury, but her tone wasn’t questioning—it was certain.

Luo Chen froze. Those beautiful eyes flashed with surprise, followed by embarrassed anger: “Don’t flatter yourself. I defended you just now because you’re still my blood sibling. When others point at your nose and curse you, does that bring me honor? Now that Eldest Aunt has gone to the Su family to discuss your marriage, I only hope you can pretend to have some dignity in the future and stop being such an embarrassment!”

Having been thoroughly scolded by her younger brother, Luo Sheng raised her eyebrows and asked: “Do you mean this marriage can succeed?”

Luo Chen froze again, his face instantly flushing red with anger.

He had scolded her so much, yet she hadn’t listened to any of it—only caring about whether the marriage with Su Yao could succeed.

How could he have such a sister—

Luo Chen clenched his fists tightly, both angry and helpless.

“Can this marriage succeed?” Luo Sheng asked calmly again, as if she hadn’t noticed her brother’s fury.

Luo Chen closed his eyes, took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to leave in a huff, and sneered coldly: “You used the tactics of crying, making scenes, and threatening to hang yourself to force Grandmother’s hand. Would Grandmother dare not comply with you?”

The Sheng and Su families were old friends. Combined with their father’s high position and great authority, with Eldest Aunt personally going to the Su family to discuss this marriage, the Su family would most likely agree.

Luo Sheng, who had been leaning against the headboard, suddenly straightened up. Hong Dou quickly supported her arm: “Miss, what are you doing?”

Luo Sheng’s feet had already touched the ground. Steadying her somewhat weak body, she said flatly: “Going to the Su family. You lead the way.”

Hong Dou didn’t ask a single question and immediately responded crisply, supporting Luo Sheng as they walked out.

Luo Chen stood frozen for a moment before hurrying to follow.

In the courtyard of Funing Hall, the orange trees had yet to bloom. From inside the house came Old Madam Sheng’s sighing voice: “I only hope that after this girl’s marriage is settled, she can behave herself a bit, and I can sleep peacefully for a few days.”

The woman beside her was the Sheng family’s Second Madam, the second maternal aunt of the Luo siblings. Hearing this, she sneered inwardly: With this cousin miss around, how could the Sheng family ever have peace?

When Grand Commander Luo sent someone to deliver this cousin miss, the accompanying letter mentioned asking the old madam to help find Luo Sheng a good marriage.

Thinking of this matter, Second Madam wanted to slap her thigh in frustration: This was clearly planning to marry Luo Sheng off in Jinsha County and burden the Sheng family permanently!

Old Madam Sheng instructed the maid who came to report: “Call the eldest young miss here.”

Shortly after, the girl who had gone to scold Luo Sheng walked in, gracefully performing a courtesy: “Greetings to Grandmother and Second Aunt.”

Old Madam Sheng beckoned the girl forward and instructed: “Jiayu, from now on you’re not allowed to make trouble with your cousin sister. She’s a guest in our household.”

The old madam thought of her granddaughter and sighed inwardly: That girl—as long as she doesn’t cause trouble, I’ll thank heaven and earth.

Sheng Jiayu was quite indignant. Just as she was about to speak, a maid hurried in and said urgently: “Old Madam, the cousin miss has gone to the Su family!”

Old Madam Sheng’s expression changed dramatically. She couldn’t help but exchange glances with Second Madam.

Flames of fury blazed in Sheng Jiayu’s eyes. Lifting her skirt, she ran outside: “Grandmother, I’ll go take a look!”

Old Madam Sheng remained silent for a long while, lightly tapping the tea table and murmuring: “What a calamity.”

How did her gentle and courteous daughter who died young give birth to such a demon king of chaos?
