Ruan Yu had just finished blow-drying her hair when she heard Jian Xiangxiang suddenly cry out behind her. “Ruan Ruan!” She turned off the buzzing hairdryer and looked back at Jian Xiangxiang. “What’s wrong?”
“This is men’s clothing, isn’t it?” Jian Xiangxiang sat on the edge of her bed, holding Teng Yi’s jacket in both hands, her face glowing with gossip-hungry curiosity.
The other two girls’ attention was drawn to Jian Xiangxiang. Chen Manbai walked over, glanced at the logo on the jacket, and added, “And it’s an expensive piece of men’s clothing too.”
“Come clean, what’s this all about?”
Ruan Yu put away the hairdryer, walked over to snatch back the jacket, took a hanger, and hung it at her bedhead. “I’m dizzy. I need to rest for a while.”
“Don’t dodge the topic. Quick, tell us whose jacket this is!”
Ruan Yu didn’t answer, instead diving straight under the covers and laying her head down to sleep. Jian Xiangxiang continued mumbling questions, but she no longer had the energy to respond – she was dizzy.
She slept until dawn, but when she woke up, her dizziness hadn’t subsided, and her nose was now stuffed up too. Great, she had caught a cold.
Using her cold as an excuse, Ruan Yu slept an extra hour instead of going to English Corner to memorize vocabulary. When Jian Xiangxiang woke up and saw Ruan Yu still lying in bed, she immediately rubbed her sleepy eyes, thinking she must be dreaming.
“Did the sun rise from the west today? How come you’re being lazy?”
“Mm, giving myself a day off,” Ruan Yu opened her mouth to speak only to discover her voice had gone hoarse too.
“You’ve caught a cold, haven’t you?” Jian Xiangxiang climbed down from her bed and walked to Ruan Yu’s bedside, reaching out to feel her forehead. “At least you don’t have a fever.”
“Just my throat feeling a bit uncomfortable.”
Xia Qiaofeng was awakened by the noise and poked her head out from under her covers. “Why don’t you go to the infirmary to get some medicine?”
“It’s fine, I just need to drink more hot water.”
Ruan Yu sat up to get dressed. After putting on her clothes, she suddenly glimpsed the dark jacket at her bedhead. She reached in to feel it – it wasn’t completely dry yet. She thought to herself that once it dried, she would return it to Teng Yi and forget about yesterday’s events, never wanting to have any more entanglements with the Teng brothers.
With Chen Manbai added to the dorm room and Ruan Yu not offsetting her schedule from the others, the bathroom suddenly became extremely crowded. Especially during washing-up time, with all four of them occupying their own spaces, they still ended up bumping arms and feet.
Jian Xiangxiang, who usually washed her hair every morning, couldn’t manage it today due to the chaos.
“Chen Manbai, you should go live somewhere else, and Ruan Yu, once your cold is better, please definitely stick to getting up early to study. Just let Xia Qiaofeng and me live spaciously in the dorm!”
“Dream on, I’m moving back in to stay,” Chen Manbai said.
“Heavens, what devastating news!”
“Some bastard reported me to the dorm administrator, saying I never spend nights in the dorm, violating the student handbook. They want the school to discipline me.”
“Who would be so heartless! I’ll fight them to the death! Just for my greasy hair alone, I won’t let them off!” Jian Xiangxiang fumed. “I’m supposed to have lunch with Zhou Xi today too!”
Chen Manbai let out a cold sneer. “Huh, so you got together with that playboy?”
“Don’t talk about him like that!” Jian Xiangxiang took up a protective stance. “He treats me very well!”
“Fine, fine, fine, I won’t talk about him. I’m just giving you a warning – men are all scoundrels.”
