Someone opened the door next door—it was Class Monitor You Lexuan.
“Well, well, who do we have here? If it isn’t our Broadcaster Chen. You’re back quite early today.” You Lexuan, wearing luxurious pajamas and a face mask, leaned lazily against the doorframe as she looked at Chen Manbai.
Chen Manbai took a few seconds to react, then suddenly seemed to realize something.
“Were you the one who reported me for staying out overnight?”
“If you don’t want others to know, then don’t do it.”
“Ha! So it was you!”
Chen Manbai was furious and lunged at You Lexuan, ripping off her face mask in one swift motion.
“Ah!”
You Lexuan screamed and stumbled back several steps. Though taller than Chen Manbai, her presence was far less imposing. At this moment, she was caught off guard and cornered behind the door by Chen Manbai.
“Manman! Don’t get too excited!” Jian Xiangxiang rushed forward and grabbed Chen Manbai from behind.
Ruan Yu and Xia Qiaofeng restrained Chen Manbai from both sides.
“Making a scene now won’t solve anything; it’ll just give her more ammunition against you,” Ruan Yu whispered in Chen Manbai’s ear. “Just scare her a bit and let’s go back before this gets bigger.”
Chen Manbai refused to comply.
Ruan Yu exchanged glances with Xia Qiaofeng and Jian Xiangxiang, and the three worked together to drag Chen Manbai back.
Seeing the crisis averted, You Lexuan’s confidence returned. She shouted at Chen Manbai, “Chen Manbai, you lunatic! Want me to call the homeroom teacher and tell him you’re bullying people here?”
“Go ahead! Call him right now! Is the homeroom teacher your father? I don’t believe he can protect you every single moment…”
Before Chen Manbai could finish, Ruan Yu and the others dragged her back into their room and shut the door.
You Lexuan’s shouting was blocked out, and the corridor gradually quieted down.
“Why did you stop me? I wanted to tear that girl apart today!”
“Tear her apart, then what? Are you planning to continue your studies here, hero?” Jian Xiangxiang poured Chen Manbai a glass of water and grabbed a Political Theory textbook to fan her. “Have some water and calm down.”
Chen Manbai took a deep breath, accepted the water, and gulped it down.
The other three in the room watched her quietly, no one speaking. After a while, Chen Manbai suddenly slammed the glass on the desk with a “bang.”
“Damn, I didn’t even get to talk about the sports meet before you dragged me back!”
“What’s there to talk about? She signed you up randomly, so just participate randomly,” Xia Qiaofeng said gently. “You don’t want to win a medal for her to take credit for, do you?”
Chen Manbai thought about it.
That’s true.
But she just hated how You Lexuan always targeted their dorm.
“Sisters, tell me, what did we ever do to her? Why is she always picking on us?” Chen Manbai wondered.
Jian Xiangxiang and Xia Qiaofeng both turned their gaze to Ruan Yu.
“Why are you looking at Ruan Yu?”
“Guilt by association, if you know what I mean,” Xia Qiaofeng said.
“You Lexuan hates Ruan Yu?” Chen Manbai was even more confused. In her view, there wasn’t anyone more low-key and non-confrontational than Ruan Yu in the whole school.
“You Lexuan have always been second place, living in Ruan Yu’s shadow no matter what she does. Even the class monitor position—she only got it because Ruan Yu didn’t want it. How do you think that makes her feel?”
“No matter how bad she feels, she shouldn’t take personal revenge!”
“She’s a high official, and we’re just commoners. What can we do?” Jian Xiangxiang shrugged.
Ruan Yu had been listening silently to their conversation.
After a while, she suddenly looked up.
“I have an idea.”
