Vol 1 – Chapter 57: Rainbow

After finishing their meal, Ruan Yu wanted to stroll down Chang’an Street, but her legs were too sore – the aftereffects of running three kilometers came in waves. On the way back, she fell into a deep sleep in Teng Yi’s car.

When she woke up, the sky had already darkened. Ruan Yu opened her eyes to find Teng Yi’s car parked at the entrance of the Xiyu Street Dance Training Base. The convertible top was closed, with the windows left slightly cracked. Teng Yi’s jacket covered her, but he was no longer in the car.

After gathering her senses, she tried to open the door but found herself locked inside.

“Teng Yi!” she called out, tapping on the car window from inside.

Caihong was sitting on the steps by the entrance playing a game. Hearing her voice, he quickly stood up, brushed off his baggy jeans, and ran over to unlock the door.

“You’re awake.”

“Mm. Why are you outside?” Ruan Yu got out of the car, leaving Teng Yi’s jacket behind.

“Boss asked me to watch over you.”

“Where is he?”

“He’s upstairs practicing dance. Would you like to go up?”

Ruan Yu checked her watch and shook her head.

“No, I need to get back to school.”

“Let me take you then. Boss instructed me to send you back when you woke up.”

“Don’t trouble yourself, I can take the bus.”

“How could it be trouble!” Caihong dangled the car keys, “Driving a luxury car to send a beautiful lady – I couldn’t ask for more. Besides, I need to ensure you get to school safely, otherwise I can’t face the boss.”

As he spoke, he had already slipped into the driver’s seat.

Ruan Yu could only follow and get in the car.

Caihong’s driving was notably more conservative than Teng Yi’s, perhaps because it wasn’t his car, or perhaps because the car was simply too expensive.

“I heard your school had a sports meet today?” Caihong asked.

“Your school?” Ruan Yu was curious, “Aren’t you a student at Yingshan?”

“I couldn’t get into such a good university like yours.” Caihong rested his hands on the steering wheel, self-consciously rubbing the tattoos on his fingers, “I couldn’t even get into university at all.”

Ruan Yu was surprised.

Wasn’t Caihong a Yingshan student? She clearly remembered seeing him at Yingshan University’s anniversary celebration.

“I saw you performing at the anniversary celebration.”

“That was an opportunity Boss fought for me. Thanks to him, even with just a vocational school diploma, I got to pretend to be a university student and dance for you all at a higher education institution.”

“You dance very well,” Ruan Yu said sincerely.

“Thank you.” Caihong smiled.

When he smiled, two small dimples appeared on his cheeks, whisking away his rebellious air and making his smile appear particularly pure and clean.

“How did you and Teng Yi meet?”

“At a street dance competition. Boss was a judge, and I was a competitor. In that competition, I danced terribly… ah, let’s not talk about it, it’s completely dark history.”

“Speaking of competitions, he seems to have an important competition coming up. I see him staying in the practice room day and night,” Ruan Yu carefully inquired.

She had wanted to ask about this for a long time but feared that untimely inquiries might expose her girlish thoughts.

“Yes,” Caihong spoke candidly, completely unaware of her careful probing, “Boss is about to participate in the Red Eagle Street Dance Competition. This is a Breaking battle-focused competition, and it’s the most aspired stage for most B-Boys and B-Girls in the street dance circle.”
