Ruan Yu couldn’t sleep. She spent the entire night staring at the ceiling—not counting sheep, not counting dumplings—but her mind was filled with thoughts of tomorrow’s finals. Although she wasn’t competing, she felt extremely nervous.
The next day, she woke up earlier than usual. After finishing her vocabulary review and returning to her dormitory, she took another nap. There were no morning classes, and she decided to skip her afternoon classes.
When Jian Xiangxiang heard that Ruan Yu was planning to skip class, she looked at her with the satisfaction of seeing “a rotten wood finally showing signs of life.”
“Ruan Ruan, when I came to Yangshan, my sister told me that if you don’t fail any classes, skip any classes, or fall in love during university, then you’ve wasted your college years.”
“That can’t be your real sister, right?”
“She may not be my biological sister, but the principle stands. Anyway, it’s impossible to make you fail a class, but skipping classes and falling in love—there’s still hope for that. Now you’ve taken the first step, next comes falling in love…”
“Stop right there.” Ruan Yu put on her cardigan and waved goodbye to her other two roommates. “I’m leaving.”
She dodged around Jian Xiangxiang and rushed out the door.
Ruan Yu went to Hua Manor to meet up with Teng Hao, who had already called for a car that was waiting in his family’s courtyard.
As the two of them came out of the house and opened the car door, they heard a chaotic piano melody.
Teng Hao irritably covered his ears.
“A madman lives next door,” he said.
“What do you mean?”
“Plays Beethoven’s pieces badly all day long. At this rate, Beethoven won’t be able to rest in peace.”
“Complaints don’t work?”
“No use. I heard that family has powerful connections and wealth. The property management doesn’t dare to confront them.”
Ruan Yu clicked her tongue. Even with power and influence, one shouldn’t act so arbitrarily. What good could come from antagonizing the neighbors?
“Come on, get in the car. What you don’t hear won’t bother you.”
“Mm.”
The car drove out of Hua Manor and headed straight to Red Eagle Stadium.
Along the way, Teng Hao’s phone kept buzzing non-stop with incoming messages.
“You’re not skipping class too, are you?” Ruan Yu asked.
“No, I got permission.”
“Your teachers approved?” It shouldn’t be that easy to get left in the third year of high school.
“It’s just PE and self-study this afternoon anyway,” Teng Hao said carelessly. “Besides, I promised my homeroom teacher I’d improve my ranking by five places in the next exam.”
Ruan Yu: “…”
Who gave him such confidence? Who!
The car stopped outside Red Eagle Stadium. There weren’t as many people as expected, but it was still lively. Most attendees were from the street dance community, dressed in increasingly hip-hop styles.
Compared to them, Ruan Yu’s fitted jeans, short T-shirt, and cardigan combination seemed too conventional and out of place. Fortunately, she had Teng Hao beside her.
As they walked in together, Teng Hao kept checking his phone and looking around.
“Are you looking for someone?” Ruan Yu asked.
“Yeah, Xiao Qing and the others are here too. They said they’re nearby, but I don’t see them.”
Just as Ruan Yu was about to help look, Teng Hao waved toward the north.
“Found them?”
“Yeah, at the entrance.” Teng Hao grabbed Ruan Yu’s hand and pulled her along quickly.
Xiao Qing’s group of five was standing at the stadium entrance.
Before Ruan Yu got close, she first spotted the girl talking to Zhou Xi.
It was Fang Wan.
