Vol 2 – Chapter 35: Dance Masters

“Street Dance Maniac” finished recording in late July and officially aired in early November. The show centered on competitions between China’s four major street dance crews, weaving comprehensive street dance knowledge into intense competitive battles, helping viewers understand the distinctions and characteristics of different dance styles while being entertained.

With its meticulously designed sets, thoughtful post-production, Asian Dance King Luo Han’s presence, and the spectacular performances of attractive dancers, the show instantly topped trending searches upon release. “Street dance,” once a niche term, burst into public consciousness with lightning speed.

People suddenly realized that “dance masters” were just like “kung fu masters” – not only did they possess spectacular skills, but they also embodied a code of honor. No matter how intense the battles were on stage, the dancers were good brothers off stage. Their mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation touched people’s hearts.

More and more people followed the show, with praise pouring in.

“Street Dance Maniac” was acclaimed as a “three-no show” – no deliberate drama, no forced performances, no intentional emotional manipulation. By going against conventional formulas, it achieved unexpected success.

After the show aired, a street dance craze swept across the country, becoming a national phenomenon.

As Han Zuo had said, when a culture flourishes, its practitioners benefit most.

After the show’s popularity, Xiyou’s dancers saw their fan bases explode, gaining broader development opportunities. Xiyou also welcomed more students.

Everything was developing in an increasingly positive direction.

Teng Yi remained unchanged, spending most of his time in the practice room except for occasional meetings at DT.

For him, regardless of how many advertising deals approached him, how many female fans clamored to marry him, or how much money he made, he would always be a dancer – dancing was a dancer’s roots.

After the show’s success, Ruan Yu’s popularity also surged. This was her first show after leaving TG and attracted attention from all sides from the start. Initially, fans didn’t understand why she would play a supporting role in such a show. Later, when someone revealed that Xiyou’s founder Teng Yi was her boyfriend, everyone finally understood – it was for love.

Though she joined the show for love, Ruan Yu put great effort into hosting it well. In several episodes, she readily shared professional street dance knowledge and could even dance along with the music when interacting with contestants. Though in a supporting role, she still shone brightly.

More importantly, like all dancers, she was devoted to street dance, making it her mission to promote street dance culture.

Loving someone means loving what they love – how romantic.

With the show’s success, she naturally regained popularity, but the price was being swamped with work, drastically reducing her time with Teng Yi.

After a busy week, Ruan Yu finally got some free time and went straight to Xiyou to find Teng Yi after work.

When she arrived, she saw Teng Yi had taken off his jacket and was trying to put a medicinal patch on his elbow, but couldn’t manage it due to the awkward angle.

“Let me help! Let me help!”

Ruan Yu rushed in, dropping her bag and taking the patch from Teng Yi’s hand.

“Off work so early today?” Teng Yi asked.

“Isn’t it good to get off early to spend time with you?”

He smiled: “Of course it is.”

“Don’t move, okay? It won’t be good if it’s crooked.” Ruan Yu bent down close to his elbow. “Is this the right spot?”

Teng Yi nodded.

The practice room was quiet, four mirrors reflecting her careful and concerned expression, instantly melting his heart.

“Little Fish.”

“Hmm?”

“Would you be willing to put patches on me for a lifetime?”
