Xuan Yi stood in place observing the situation for a while. This didn’t look good at all—three hundred warriors unable to defeat just four opponents? How utterly humiliating!
She tossed the snowball in her hand and blew out a heavy breath. In an instant, the entire forest darkened considerably as dense snowflakes the size of fists cascaded down. The four demon generals who had been strutting about arrogantly suddenly found their movements sluggish, and then, quite comically, they froze mid-air, unable to move even a single finger.
With the Zhuyin Clan here! The generals’ spirits immediately soared. The techniques they had forgotten in the heat of battle suddenly returned to their minds, and one by one they struck with ruthless precision. Divine weapons and sharp blades impaled the four demon generals until they resembled porcupines. Though they couldn’t kill them immediately, beating these drowning dogs was certainly no problem.
Xuan Yi flicked her fingertip, and a massive ice dragon roared forth, coiling around those four generals. It wrapped tighter and tighter, accompanied by the continuous sound of shattering bones. Due to their regenerative healing powers, the crushed bones could rapidly mend themselves, only to be crushed again once healed. The excruciating pain was beyond imagination. The four generals screamed incessantly—the healing ability they once took such pride in had now become a form of torture. Yet their bodies remained frozen and unable to move no matter how they struggled, until their throats were nearly hoarse from screaming.
The Kaiyang Star Lord’s long whip lashed out, wrapping around one of the generals. He seemed unable to endure the injuries any longer and suddenly trembled all over before transforming into a pile of ash that scattered in the wind.
They had eliminated one! The generals were overjoyed and redoubled their efforts, their techniques and weapons clanging chaotically as they battered the remaining three generals, who finally reluctantly transformed into black ash and dispersed.
A smile finally appeared on the Kaiyang Star Lord’s stern face, and even his voice softened considerably: “Excellent. Form ranks and assess casualties. Those infected by turbid energy, step forward.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a cold snort rang out from the distance: “What a rabble of incompetents! How dare you kill my subordinate generals!”
Blood-red demonic fog suddenly illuminated the entire sky. A violent wind arose, and the forest beneath the deities’ feet seemed to be torn apart as trees mixed with flying sand and stones were swept into the hurricane. The thick blood-red demonic fog descended abruptly, pressing down on the generals until they nearly fell from the clouds.
The Kaiyang Star Lord was shocked and dismayed—he had completely failed to detect such a powerful demon so nearby! Could they really be so unlucky as to have run into Lord Shangmao himself?!
He blew out a breath, and divine wind dispersed some of the demonic fog. A pair of blood-red circular eyes flickered faintly behind the fog, with three pupils visible in the left eye.
“It’s Lord Shangmao’s Second War General!” The Kaiyang Star Lord gasped—so those four demon generals had been his subordinates. “All of the Yiyihai Division, retreat immediately! Flee at once!”
The generals no longer cared about anything else and scattered desperately in all directions. That cold voice spoke again with arrogant disdain: “A bunch of worthless trash. I originally had no interest in fighting you, but the Third Prince is approaching, and you’ve killed my generals. Today I’ll use your blood to wash clean this road!”
The demonic wind was like countless blade edges, spiraling and crisscrossing as it howled in pursuit. The generals who were accidentally caught in it were instantly torn to pieces.
This powerful?! Xuan Yi hastily dodged the demonic wind pursuing her from behind, but suddenly felt those enormous blood-red eyes fix upon her. This incredibly powerful demon general spoke again: “A young member of the Zhuyin Clan is rarely seen. You look quite good—the Third Prince will surely be delighted.”
The demonic fog condensed into a net that mercilessly descended over Xuan Yi’s head. She didn’t dodge, allowing the demonic fog to pass through her body. Just as she was about to blow out the Zhuyin snow, from the corner of her eye she suddenly glimpsed that all the other generals of the Yiyihai Division had fled without a trace. Even the Kaiyang Star Lord had disappeared to who knows where. She instantly flew into a rage—in the past, she was always the one abandoning others to save herself, never had she been left behind as a meat shield by others!
She didn’t even bother blowing the snow and transformed into a gust of wind to escape. That ball of blood-red demonic fog continued to pursue her at a leisurely pace, as if knowing that all techniques were useless against her and was probably considering what method to use to capture her.
Xuan Yi recited an incantation, and an invisible ice wall blocked her path from behind. The demon general didn’t notice in time and crashed hard into it. The ice wall suddenly transformed into an ice dragon that bit down toward his round, blood-red eyes. He hastily blocked it, and when he opened his eyes again, everything before him went dark and he could see nothing. He couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment. By the time the darkness and ice dragon completely disappeared, that member of the Zhuyin Clan had long since flown off to who knows where.
…This was the first time he’d encountered a Zhuyin Clan member who was so good at running away.
Xuan Yi flew about chaotically for a while, glancing back to see the blood-red demonic fog still spreading. Even after flying several thousand li, she still couldn’t completely shake it off. She frowned and looked around in all directions, suddenly spotting clear energy flourishing in the distance—it seemed to be a general’s palace. She immediately dove toward it. The gust of wind landed on the ground, and just as she steadied herself, the generals surrounding the palace couldn’t help but look over in stunned bewilderment.
“This is the general’s palace of the Yibingyin Division. Which division are you from? Why are you barging in recklessly?”
The commanding general came over to reprimand her. Xuan Yi gave him a slight smile and pointed back toward the sky without saying a word. The generals couldn’t help but look up, only to see blood-red fog gathering in masses at the very distant horizon. They immediately turned pale with shock.
“That demonic fog belongs to Zhanglu, Lord Shangmao’s Second War General!” the generals cried out in alarm. “How can he be here?!”
The commanding general had no time for further words and immediately shouted sternly: “Form ranks! Prepare for battle!”
The generals of this Yibingyin Division were clearly much more experienced and composed than those of the Yiyihai Division. Not one showed fear as they immediately soared into the air. Divine power surged, and auspicious light illuminated half the sky.
Xuan Yi planned to observe the situation from where she stood. If they could handle it, she would join the fight—it would be a perfect opportunity to test all her techniques on this powerful demon general. If they couldn’t handle it…
Just as she was lost in thought, a sweet and gentle voice suddenly sounded behind her: “Little mudfish, what kind of powerful demon have you brought here?”
Xuan Yi felt a jolt and slowly turned around. Sure enough, walking gracefully toward her was a divine lord dressed in black general’s armor with a feather-like long blade at his waist. This was the first time she had seen Shao Yi carrying a weapon.
Seeing her stare at him wide-eyed without speaking, Shao Yi couldn’t help but smile slightly: “I didn’t expect my wish to come true—encountering this little mudfish in the lower realm. Let me see… this is Zhanglu, Lord Shangmao’s Second War General. You’ve brought quite a troublesome thing here… Why run away? He can’t hurt you.”
Xuan Yi looked at him, then looked at the generals above who were already engaged in battle with Zhanglu: “…Aren’t you going to fight?”
Shao Yi folded his arms and leaned against the palace wall: “You’re the one who brought this trouble here, so naturally you should be the one fighting. This is a perfect chance for me to see how well you’ve learned your techniques.”
Xuan Yi spread her handkerchief on the ground and sat down elegantly: “Then let’s watch slowly.”
Shao Yi couldn’t suppress his amusement: “So unwilling to let me see your true abilities? You should be more obedient—I really can’t bear to torment you.”
The commanding general above, who had been holding back for quite some time, finally couldn’t restrain his thunderous fury: “You two over there, from the Qingyang Clan and Zhuyin Clan! Come up here and join the battle immediately!”
Shao Yi sighed and looked down at Xuan Yi: “You first.”
“How could I? Senior Brother Shao Yi, please go ahead.”
He sighed again: “Aiya, this little mudfish of mine.”
His long sleeves fluttered like wings as he soared high into the air. Xuan Yi rode the wind to follow behind him, watching as he flicked his feather blade. Both blade and man transformed into a beam of deep blue firelight that shot toward Zhanglu’s enormous blood-red eyes.
Those giant eyes immediately closed, and the thick fur on his eyelids gleamed with cold light—each strand was an incomparably sharp blade from which pitch-black turbid energy gushed forth.
That beam of deep blue firelight suddenly spread open, its massive fire wings trembling as countless points of blazing feathers trailed behind it for an extremely long distance—it had abruptly transformed into a deep blue fire phoenix. The fire phoenix circled gracefully around Zhanglu’s head once, and suddenly Zhanglu began to scream miserably, his entire head and face covered in the flames of annihilation.
In the next moment, the sky darkened. Raging wind and snow roared forth from the void, and as snowflakes fell on Zhanglu’s body, his massive form was gradually frozen inch by inch. Finally, he remained frozen behind the demonic fog with his mouth wide open in a scream, unable to move at all. Only the deep blue flames of annihilation continued to burn quietly and steadily on his head and face.
Excellent! No wonder these two clans could turn the Sea of Parting Sorrow into such a ghostly place—their reputations were truly well-deserved. At the commanding general’s order, the generals rushed forward and unleashed all their abilities, beating the frozen and immobilized Zhanglu into tattered shreds.
