Jiao Yang Si Wo: Part 1 – Chapter 40

I made a difficult decision.

—I must transfer back to the Finance Department!

“What’s your reason?” Deputy Director Lin asked while looking at my transfer application, not even raising his head.

“It’s written right there.”

“‘Low work efficiency recently due to mismatched professional background?'” He nodded and signed it without hesitation.

“…You’re not even going to try to keep me?”

“When it rains, it rains. When a girlfriend wants to change departments, what can I do?” He smiled at my glare and handed me the signed application. “Take it. Hand over your work, effective tomorrow.”

Just as I was about to leave with the application, his leisurely voice came from behind: “By the way, this year’s year-end bonuses for management departments won’t follow a unified standard anymore. They’ll be distributed based on departmental performance.”

I immediately had an ominous feeling. “Which has more—Management or Finance?”

“The department you just left.”

“…So which department am I counted under?”

“Oh, you’re not my person anymore,” Deputy Director Lin told me mercilessly.

“…”

Why do I feel like I’ve been deceived when we haven’t even been together for a week?

Yin Jie couldn’t understand why I switched departments without a word, and at lunch, she nearly hit my head with her chopsticks. “What were you thinking, changing departments right before the year-end bonus? Hey, did you get tired of Deputy Director Lin’s harassment? Even though he’s handsome, it must be annoying if you don’t like him.”

I sprayed my food with a “poof.”

After coughing for a while, when Yin Jie wasn’t paying attention, I took out my phone to text Lin Yusen: “Someone said I changed departments because I couldn’t take your harassment anymore.”

Lin Yusen quickly replied: “Yin Jie?”

Oh no! Did I accidentally betray my friend? I nervously glanced at Yin Jie who was eating her rice, and hurriedly replied: “No… just heard it around.”

After a while, Lin Yusen replied: “Oh.”

Ugh, what kind of response is that?

Could it be that he’s bothered by it?

I suddenly felt troubled. This was my first time having a proper relationship, and I didn’t know what should and shouldn’t be said sometimes.

That afternoon at work, I secretly observed him several times—see, this is exactly why I said work efficiency was low. Working together with your, um, boyfriend is quite distracting.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure anything out because some clients came to visit, and the Venetian blinds in the deputy director’s office were lowered. Unable to spy anymore, I had no choice but to seriously hand over my work to the new staff.

After Jiang Ya left, our department got two new people who had already gotten the hang of things. Since I was just changing departments, and not leaving the company, the handover wasn’t too difficult.

Before leaving work, I finally found a chance to run to his office.

Lin Yusen was standing by the bookshelf, browsing through some documents.

“You’re not angry, are you?”

“Angry about what?”

Lin Yusen looked up from the documents, quite puzzled.

Well, if he’s not angry, I wouldn’t bring it up voluntarily. I casually deflected, “Oh, about me changing departments.”

“Having you transferred here was my selfish desire in the first place. What do I have to be angry about?” He smiled gently, his gaze returning to the documents. “Come closer.”

“Hm?” His document-reading pose made me approach a few steps without any wariness.

“Today is your last day in the Management Department.”

“Yeah.”

He nodded, then without warning, closed the document folder with one hand, turned slightly, leaned down, and placed a kiss on my lips.

The warm sensation was gone as quickly as it came. He smiled as he looked at me, “There, at least I lived up to my reputation.”

I felt like I’d been struck by lightning.

Standing there dumbfounded, I somehow managed to ask, “What reputation?”

“Harassment.”

Lin Yusen smiled slightly, raising his hand to tuck a few stray strands of hair behind my ear, very gently reminding me, “You’re going to Finance tomorrow, so don’t work overtime tonight. Get some good rest.”

Bas…tard…

Only these three syllables appeared in my mind.

I never imagined that my first kiss would be lost in an office, under the pretense of “harassment.”

I must have been looking at him with quite an indignant expression because he couldn’t help but laugh, “What’s wrong? Your expression… looks like you want to punch me?”

I said indignantly: “Anyone whose first… is lost in an office under the name of harassment would want to punch someone, no matter how handsome you are!”

“Though not unexpected, I’m still happy.” His gaze focused intently on my lips, seemingly missing the point entirely. He reached out his long arm, wrapped it around my waist, and lowered his head again.

This time it was no longer just a gentle touch and retreat. Even though we were already so close, his palm still firmly pulled me toward his body. The masculine strength made my instinctive resistance futile. He lingered on my lips, patient and unhurried, until I finally couldn’t breathe, allowing him to advance freely, repeatedly sweeping…

The previous time, I had no time to think before he pulled away. This time, with such a long time to think, my head was completely scrambled like porridge, and even my limbs seemed not to listen to me.

When he finally withdrew from my lips, I found that I had somehow been pushed against the bookshelf, my hands tightly gripping his suit sleeves.

His arm around me still hadn’t let go, his head buried in the crook of my neck, his hair falling on my cheeks, tickling and unsettling.

“Oh no,” after a long while, he steadied his breathing and said very gently but without sincerity in my ear, “The second time was also harassment by a superior in the office, what should we do?”

The number one beast from medical school—Senior Fang didn’t deceive me.

—This was the conclusion I drew from the depths of my sleep-deprived heart the next morning.

Due to two major reasons—needing to move my personal belongings to Finance before Lin Yusen arrived at work, and tossing and turning in bed unable to sleep—I harassed Yin Jie with my phone at seven o’clock to help me move things to the office.

Yin Jie grumbled sleepily, “You have a wild imagination, changing departments with just a few days left before Spring Festival.”

I sighed deeply and said: “You wouldn’t understand my complex inner world~”

“I only know you’re getting thousands less in bonuses!”

It’ll be made up, don’t worry!

Her eyes suddenly lit up, “When did you get a new phone?”

My movements of arranging things paused for a moment, and after a while, I answered: “…Oh, a few days ago.”

“Why did you suddenly change phones? Wasn’t the previous one working fine?”

“Mm, I lost it.”

Yin Jie immediately looked at me sympathetically and casually asked: “Then how do you still have my number?”

“…”

People from Finance started arriving for work one after another, and I didn’t want to dwell on this question anymore, so I pushed her out, “Alright, alright, go back to your office to work, I’ll treat you to lunch, okay?”

“Fancy meal?”

“Cafeteria.”

My department change was quite sudden, and my Finance Department colleagues were all very surprised to see me. Their expressions held some speculation and curiosity. I deeply felt that they probably had the same thoughts as Yin Jie.

Sure enough, in the break room, Qiqi consoled me very tactfully: “It’s best that you came back, we were short-handed anyway, and it’s better to work quietly than anything else.”

I smiled and nodded in agreement.

Turning around, I immediately took my revenge, texting Lin Yusen: “Deputy Director, you need to watch your image! Everyone thinks I changed departments to escape your evil clutches!”

Then I swept away yesterday’s defeat (?) and happily went to work.

A busy day quickly passed. When the end-of-work music played, I suddenly realized that Lin Yusen hadn’t replied to my text all day.

I lowered my head to look for my phone in my bag.

The colleagues around me had all packed up and were preparing to leave, all standing up, but then suddenly, very unanimously, sat back down, all pretending to be working diligently.

What’s going on?

I raised my head with my phone in hand to look toward the door, only to see Deputy Director Lin Yusen walking into our office with one hand in his pocket, taking casual strides.

He seemed completely oblivious to the office’s strange atmosphere, very naturally walking to my desk, “Off work? Today we’re having dinner with Senior.”

Ten minutes later, sitting in Lin Yusen’s car, I severely criticized him, “Why did you come to my office?”

“I just saw Little Zhang from the factory office in the office, he wasn’t at his post, what was he doing in your office?”

His tone had quite a hint of executive inquiry, and I immediately explained on behalf of my colleague with great solidarity, “He was picking up Qiqi after work. It’s already after hours, that’s not a problem, right?”

“Of course,” Lin Yusen said matter-of-factly, “So why can’t I pick you up after work?”

Then he appeared to be pondering, “Now they probably won’t think you’re avoiding my harassment, right?”

Yeah, they won’t.

Your Excellency has already cleared your name…

Sigh~~~ Are all boyfriends this difficult to deal with? Or is the one I have particularly special? ==

And so…

After that godlike first day, my days in the Finance Department began… smoothly, peacefully, and amicably…

Soon I sadly discovered that although I changed departments, work efficiency didn’t seem to improve much—the corporate email could testify to that.

In this aspect, Deputy Director Lin set a bad example. One day after I moved to Finance, he stuffed something strange into my inbox.

It turned out to be his complete personal resume, or perhaps autobiography would be more accurate. Birthday, hometown, various educational and work experiences, even with photos from different stages.

After reading through his fascinating autobiography with great interest, I picked up the phone to dial his office number, saying softly: “What did you send me? Why did you give me this?”

“Hmm, a product user manual? To let you understand your boyfriend’s features and functions.”

“…But you didn’t need to include that you can fix light bulbs.”

“Oh, that’s a representative household function. By the way, I’m also quite good at sewing and tying knots.”

“…So writing about your relationship history was to tell me you have a history of being returned?”

“Miss Nie, is there something wrong with your Chinese comprehension? How is that relationship history?”

Who told you to write about being dragged to blind dates by your teacher?

I held back my laughter and said very seriously: “Of course it counts.”

“That was due to inaccurate target customers, the product voluntarily withdrew from the market. Also, I’d like to remind the esteemed customer that previously, not all functions of this product were enabled. Miss Nie, I hope you can fully develop and actively use them.”

Is it my imagination?! Why do I feel like his final “actively use” was full of… teasing undertones? I hurriedly changed the subject, pretending to be serious: “Don’t try to fool me, quickly explain that dark history in detail.”

He said somewhat helplessly: “What dark history, nothing could be more innocent, just a moment.”

The sound of knocking came from his end of the receiver, probably someone looking for him on business. I wasn’t in a hurry either—if he didn’t hang up, I wouldn’t either—so I just held the phone and quickly did some accounting.

His conversation with the other party came through the receiver, and soon his voice became clear again: “When I was studying medicine in America, once a familiar Chinese-American professor suddenly called me to dinner.”

He stopped there.

Remembering he once said he was too busy even for dating, I asked curiously: “Was medical school really that busy?”

Lin Yusen chuckled lightly: “Not as busy as now.”

Ugh, ~~~ People say love makes you lose IQ points, but I feel like mine has skyrocketed. For example, right now, I suddenly understood what Mr. Lin was trying to express through his roundabout way of speaking…

But I deliberately pretended not to understand, “Oh, you’re so busy, I won’t talk to you anymore.”

After quickly hanging up, I thought for a moment, then smiled and dug out my job application profile from my USB drive and sent it to him. However, he replied with one sentence: “Looks like Miss Nie hasn’t studied hard?”

“…” Is being a top student really that great?!

Angry and embarrassed, I replied: “Just letting you understand your target customer’s characteristics.”

“Thanks for the thought, but no need. I understand my target customer much more than you imagine.”

“Really? Like what?”

“Like, I know my target customer wants to eat Northeastern cuisine tonight.”

Mr. Lin, you should go buy lottery tickets!

Hmm, ever since Mr. Lin and I exchanged our “job resumes,” we thoroughly misused the company email for private purposes, mainly for—talking nonsense.

On the last working day before Spring Festival, everyone lacked work enthusiasm. I was also lazily doing accounts when I suddenly saw Lin Yusen’s signature under a large expenditure.

So I very unprofessionally stopped working and opened my email to send him a message.

“Lin Yusen, I noticed there are a lot of wood characters in your name, are you lacking the wood element?”

Soon I received his reply.

“Too much wood only lacks sunlight.”

I couldn’t help but smile, thought for a moment, and replied: “With so much wood, the light from a just-rising sun isn’t enough…”

Xi light means the light of dawn, which is very weak.

This time there was no reply for a long while. I waited a bit and found an excuse to run to their office, but through the glass door, I saw him discussing something with several clients.

Returning to my seat reassured, I buried myself in work for a while, then somehow suddenly had a moment of telepathy and opened my inbox again. Sure enough, his reply was quietly lying there.

I opened it and saw he said: I’m waiting for you to give me a blazing sun.
