Suddenly, he had the urge to take off his shoes and lean back into this memory-filled sofa.
Yin Feng glanced inside the room where she was pulling out suitcases from under the bed, busy packing.
You Mingxu remembered her toiletries were in the living room cabinet and walked out casually, but when she reached the bedroom door, she saw him shoeless, hugging his knees, curled up in the corner of the sofa with his face resting on his knees, back curved.
The pose was so familiar that You Mingxu froze, her heart suddenly beating faster.
Hearing movement, Yin Feng turned his head, and they faced each other wordlessly.
You Mingxu laughed: “What are you doing?”
Yin Feng slowly lowered his legs put on his shoes, maintained his mature, reserved expression, and answered: “Review the old to understand the new – is that not allowed?”
You Mingxu were truly amused by him, actually coming up with such a formal idiom. But was he also reminiscing about his time as Yingjun?
You Mingxu’s heart fluttered slightly, but she deliberately acted unconcerned, retrieving what she needed from the living room and returning to continue packing.
Yin Feng sat for a while longer before getting up and walking toward that empty room.
Since Yin Feng’s home had everything, You Mingxu only needed to bring seasonal clothes and daily necessities. Being naturally efficient, she finished packing quickly and walked to the living room, only to find him gone.
That room had been emptied when he left, and You Mingxu had kept it that way. The miscellaneous items that had been there before he came were still piled in the neighboring apartment; she hadn’t asked Chen Feng to bring them back.
You Mingxu walked in to find him standing by the window, gazing outside.
Her home’s view couldn’t compare to his – iron railings framed a vista crowded with buildings, revealing only a tiny corner of the sky.
You Mingxu walked to his side and asked: “What’s so interesting to look at?”
He answered: “I still remember how it felt then. For many days, I lay in bed, looking at that small patch of sky outside. I felt I knew nothing, and recognized no one. The world seemed too vast, everything unknown. I was often afraid, sometimes waking up startled at night. But just knowing you were next door, knowing that with you there, no demons or monsters could defeat you – I wasn’t scared anymore. I could sleep. I found the courage to keep living in this world.”
Although You Mingxu had witnessed You Yingjun’s confusion and dependence firsthand, hearing him express it now felt completely different. In her mind, she pictured You Yingjun curled up in his blanket at night, those clear but bewildered eyes gazing at the sky outside.
Her heart ached, but she said: “I know, you treated me like a mother, like a nanny back then.”
Yin Feng smiled and said: “Nonsense. Even if I was simple-minded then, I understood matters between men and women.”
You Mingxu didn’t believe it: “How is that possible?”
Yin Feng glanced at her and said: “For a while, I was desperately wanting to sleep with you.”
You Mingxu: “…”
She spat at him in mock disgust, thinking this must be Yin Feng deliberately teasing her. How could the pure and adorable You Yingjun have had such brazen thoughts?
Yin Feng continued: “But I did keep my promise to you.”
“What?”
He pulled her in front of him, holding her from behind, both of them leaning against the windowsill. Even after last night’s intimacy, this closeness without any gap made You Mingxu’s heart flutter slightly.
He said softly: “In my castle, only you can be the mistress, only you can enter. From now on, watch life’s scenery with me, through all four seasons. Share joy and sorrow, life and death. No leaving allowed.”
You Mingxu also recalled the past, quietly leaning in his embrace for a moment before suddenly breaking free to ask: “If that’s so, where’s your castle?”
Yin Feng froze.
You Mingxu turned around, pointing at the completely empty room: “Where’s the castle full of our sweet memories?”
Yin Feng understood – she was picking a bone with him. Thinking of how he’d moved out back then, he truly had nothing to say. He remembered when they were moving his furniture and luggage, Chen Feng had asked: “Where should we put these?”
Without even looking up, he’d said: “Throw them away.”
Chen Feng had left without a word. Who knew if he’d followed those instructions?
But Yin Feng’s mind worked quickly, thinking that even if they had been thrown away, he could buy another set. Even if he didn’t want her to notice they were new, Guan Jun could help add some wear and scratches.
So he answered with a straight face: “What’s the hurry? Everything’s at my place, stored in the garage. Though it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to keep sleeping in that bed – too cramped. But occasionally using it could be interesting.”
You Mingxu hadn’t expected the things were still there, and her heart warmed. But how had he managed to turn this into flirting again? She turned to leave.
Yin Feng caught her hand, holding it in his palm.
You Mingxu said deliberately slowly: “I suddenly realized moving to your place might not be suitable.”
Yin Feng raised an eyebrow, listening as she continued: “What if someday your brain malfunctions again and you forget me, feeling sorry but helpless? Wouldn’t I end up being thrown out? That would be too embarrassing – I won’t do it.”
Yin Feng laughed, grabbing her waist and pulling her close against him, saying: “Bringing up old accounts again? No problem, that’s easy to fix. Isn’t it true that Chen Feng and the others only see you as the boss’s wife now, and ignore me? We’ll tell them that if such a day comes, they should throw me out and leave the house to you. Let me sleep rough outside the door until I reform. Only when I remember can I come back home.”
You Mingxu almost laughed but kept a serious expression: “It’s a deal.”
Yin Feng hadn’t expected her to agree and felt somewhat displeased. He kissed her cheek and said: “You’re ruthless.”
You Mingxu: “When it comes to being ruthless, who could compare to you? Cutting ties completely without a word, clean and decisive.”
Yin Feng: “…” This hadn’t been forgotten. Thinking of his attitude then, and knowing how proud You Mingxu was, though she hadn’t said anything at the time, she must have been hurt. Yin Feng’s heart softened, and he brought her hand to his lips, kissing it and saying: “Xu’er, punish me however you want for that. I owe you.”
With him saying this, You Mingxu found it hard to continue teasing. It had just been a joke after all. So after some thought, she raised an eyebrow and said: “Alright, then I’ll punish you by making you sleep alone in the castle in the garage for a month. That’ll make me feel better, and I promise never to bring it up again.”
He stared at her steadily.
You Mingxu turned toward her bedroom, smiling.
After a while, he followed her in and said coolly: “You Mingxu, even when making outrageous demands, there needs to be some feasibility. This request is impossible.”
“Didn’t you say I could punish you however I wanted?”
He was quiet for a few seconds: “When did I say that?”
You Mingxu grabbed a pillow and threw it at him: “Get out!”
They spent time like this, talking, teasing, and tussling on the sofa and bed. By the time they finished packing and went downstairs, more than an hour had passed.
Chen Feng was leaning against the car looking at his phone, while Tu Ya crouched by the roadside playing mobile games. From afar, they saw Yin Feng pulling a suitcase with You Mingxu walking empty-handed beside him. Tu Ya laughed first, looking Yin Feng over and saying: “Looks like he didn’t get hurt much.”
Chen Feng also glanced over and said: “Don’t you understand internal injuries? Look how refreshed Boss Lady looks, and look at Teacher Yin, obediently pulling the suitcase behind her, not daring to look anywhere else. Now we know who’ll be in charge of this household from now on.”
Tu Ya once again learned his lesson.
