As You Mingxu and Yin Feng walked downstairs, they discovered not only Tuya but also Guanjun waiting by a car.
Tuya greeted her with his usual foolish grin, calling her “Boss Lady,” while Guanjun merely lifted his eyelids in acknowledgment as he smoked, considering it a sufficient greeting for You Mingxu.
Yin Feng said, “These days, I’m assigning Tuya to you. Just focus on your missions, and he’ll drive you around. He’s skilled in combat and can watch over you if anything happens.”
You Mingxu immediately understood his intention. With both the apprentice killer and the hidden Punisher around these days, Yin Feng wanted to assign her a bodyguard.
Come to think of it, You Mingxu had never fought against Tuya before. But Tuya had defeated Xu Mengshan. Moreover, with his tall and robust build, he had natural advantages. If someone like Tuya, with his raw power, had been present during the previous encounter with the Butcher assassin, he might have had an even better advantage than You Mingxu in subduing the opponent.
You Mingxu asked, “What about you?”
Yin Feng replied, “Guanjun will stay with me.”
You Mingxu glanced at Guanjun’s lean frame, which made him laugh and say, “Boss Lady, I may not have Tuya’s bulk of muscle, but when it comes to guns and poison, I’m his master.”
Tuya immediately cursed at him with a vulgar word.
You Mingxu said, “Both should stay with you. I’ll be with Mengshan and the others, I won’t act alone.”
Yin Feng gave her a swift glance and said, “No, I prefer having my people watch over you.” Both Tuya and Guanjun grinned at this, while You Mingxu’s face flushed at his words. She didn’t bother arguing further, as she quite liked Tuya anyway.
The four drove back to the police station, with Tuya and Guanjun taking up their posts downstairs while You Mingxu and Yin Feng went upstairs to continue their overtime work.
Xu Mengshan and his team had also returned. Just as You Mingxu was about to go find them, Yin Feng said, “I need to talk to you somewhere secure.”
You Mingxu was momentarily stunned.
A secure place? Wasn’t every place in the police station secure?
She suddenly remembered the vengeful police officer they had previously exposed as a member of the Punisher organization. Thinking this might be Yin Feng’s concern, she decided to take him to the fighting gym downstairs. At this late hour, it would be empty.
You Mingxu turned on the lights and led Yin Feng to the center of the gym, where they could see in all directions, making it impossible for anyone to eavesdrop. Of course, You Mingxu was also somewhat exaggerating, partly to tease Yin Feng.
You Mingxu sat cross-legged in the center of the arena, and Yin Feng followed suit. His first words were, “This is where Jingping defeated you before he left last time?”
You Mingxu wondered how he knew about that. She didn’t mind though, thinking that he was still as irritating as ever, asking questions he already knew the answers to, always zeroing in on the key points.
She replied, “Yes.”
Yin Feng asked, “What did he say to you?”
You Mingxu looked at him and said, “Is this what you wanted to talk about?”
Yin Feng said, “No.”
They stared at each other until Yin Feng finally said, “Forget it! Hearing about it would only make me angry. Let’s discuss the important matter.”
Hearing this, You Mingxu felt somewhat sorry for him and reached out to touch his face, saying, “What are you angry about? I’m here with you, not somewhere else.”
He gazed at her, then suddenly pulled her into his embrace. He kissed her fiercely yet subtly for a while until You Mingxu broke free and said, “Are we still discussing the important matter or not?”
In truth, Yin Feng’s kiss wasn’t just out of jealousy towards Jinping. After having that dream and recalling those memory fragments, understanding that a great enemy was near, he wasn’t panicked, but darkness and killing intent were surging within him. He had instinctively sought something from her presence. And indeed, he found it. Just holding her familiar body and breathing in her scent seemed to calm his turbulent, cold heart. He returned to being that steady, sharp man.
After a moment of contemplation, Yin Feng told You Mingxu about the scenes he had witnessed in his dream, or rather his memories, omitting the details of his torture.
You Mingxu remained silent for a while.
Yin Feng asked, “What do you think?”
You Mingxu said, “Are you sure it’s someone you know?”
Yin Feng frowned and replied, “He feels familiar. After that dream, I remembered that I had indeed met him in Guizhou. I just can’t remember who he is.”
You Mingxu thought for a moment and said, “Indeed, Yin Chen’s sudden appearance and claim to be the Punisher’s founder felt very abrupt. It always seemed different from their usual way of operating. If Yin Chen is just a front, then everything makes more sense. Do you think Yin Chen might have emerged specifically to seek revenge against Xing Jifu while simultaneously punishing Kaiyang Group as a major target?”
Yin Feng nodded, “It’s possible.”
After another moment of silence, You Mingxu asked, “Do you still think it could be someone close to us?”
“Yes. I have that feeling. He feels very familiar, and though I can’t remember his face clearly, I distinctly remember how shocked and even hurt I felt when I saw him back then. But when I try to think deeper about it, my head starts to hurt.”
You Mingxu placed her hand on his forehead, “Are you alright?”
Yin Feng looked at her with cool eyes, “I’m fine. Just kiss me… a few times tonight, and I’ll be better.”
You Mingxu’s face reddened instantly, and she smacked his head, saying with a cold laugh, “I see your brain is missing whatever it needs most. Forgetting this, forgetting that.”
Yin Feng replied calmly, “Yes if it weren’t for Axu, I might have gone mad by now.”
You Mingxu paused, noticing something serious in his eyes and tone. Did he believe that?
“Better if you went mad!” she said irritably.
Yin Feng grabbed her waist, “Even if I go mad, I’ll still have you.”
“Wait,” You Mingxu pushed him away again, wondering how they had gotten to this point. Recently, especially since his return from Guizhou and their getting together, they often started discussing serious matters only to veer off in unexpected directions. Here they were, discussing confidential matters in a fighting gym, and somehow they’d ended up hypothesizing about him going mad for her.
It was as if they could talk endlessly about themselves.
You Mingxu became serious and said, “Do you understand what it means if it’s someone close to you?”
Yin Feng remained silent.
You Mingxu said, “Our closest people are Xu Mengshan, Tuya, Chen Feng, Guanjun, Xiao Yan, and the core members of my team.”
Yin Feng added, “Also Ding Xiongwei, Jingping who went to Yunnan, and the deceased Luo Yu.”
You Mingxu’s heart trembled, and she blurted out, “I can’t believe any of them could be that person.”
Yin Feng looked at her and said, “I also completely trust my four people. None of them could be that person.”
