Chapter 1097: Who Says Old Tang Is Alone

Women truly understand women best.

The issues Ji Lin pondered were entirely different from his wife’s concerns.

Looking at his wife, guilt welled up in his heart. First, the old master passed away, then Ji Ya angered both Tang Hongen and the Zhou family at once. Under this double pressure, his wife couldn’t sleep, growing visibly haggard over the year.

Even Ji Lin, at his angriest, had wanted to drive Ji Ya out of the family to preserve a lifeline for the entire Ji family!

After that intensely stressful period, sibling affection gradually prevailed again.

Ji Lin’s guilt flashed briefly. Hearing his wife evaluate his sister this way, he became very displeased:

“Father couldn’t stop worrying about her even on his deathbed. She’s been single for over a decade, so it’s great that she’s willing to marry now. Not having the wedding in the capital is a bit unexpected, but the southern environment is more open. If George makes the wedding too grand, it would indeed be too conspicuous in the capital!”

Ji Lin quickly convinced himself.

Peng City wasn’t bad – if others couldn’t see it, Tang Hongen couldn’t pretend to be blind anymore.

Previously, when he had greeted Tang Hongen at Quanjude, Tang Hongen had ignored him, making Ji Lin lose face in front of foreign guests and work colleagues. This would be payback.

Ji Lin’s wife clutched her chest:

“Don’t defend her. If she’s having the wedding in Peng City, it’s definitely because she’s unwilling to accept… I don’t expect any benefits from this sister-in-law regardless of who she marries, I just hope she doesn’t drag down the Ji family. Ji Lin, she’s your sister, but are the rest of us picked up from the street? Think about it!”

Ji Ya gave her such anxiety that the elder Mrs. Ji didn’t want to attend Ji Ya’s wedding at all.

The old master was just biased, still worrying about Ji Ya before his death.

Was being single for over a decade so impressive?

She hadn’t remarried for over a decade, but that didn’t mean she hadn’t dated anyone. Who knew how many boyfriends Ji Ya had abroad before George? Fortunately, this one was leading to marriage – couldn’t she just live a normal life? Marrying George would certainly provide a luxurious lifestyle; she couldn’t understand what more Ji Ya could be unsatisfied about.

Previously, the elder Mrs. Ji had also protected her sister-in-law, but since developing a dislike for Ji Ya, all sorts of negative feelings had surfaced – she disliked everything Ji Ya did.

Feeling deeply troubled, she returned to her room clutching her chest, slamming the door loudly.

The Ji family was supposed to be celebrating, yet his wife was picking fights. Ji Lin was quite unhappy too. Ji Ya had always been strong-willed – even their father couldn’t control her when he was alive, so naturally, he as the elder brother had no way either. Having the wedding in the capital would be best, but now that she wanted it in Peng City, could he make Ji Ya change her mind?

Thankfully it was in Peng City – if it were in America, Ji Lin would be at a loss.

He’d still have to buy plane tickets and attend as her family to support her.

“So what’s the point of arguing? We’ll still have to go to Peng City…”

Ji Lin had only one hope – after this showing off after Ji Ya had vented her frustrations, she would finally settle down and stop causing trouble!

Stop causing trouble?

Some people are born accustomed to others’ attention. Asking them to stop causing trouble would only happen when everything was settled and they stopped breathing in their coffin.

As long as they were alive, they would cause trouble.

Secretary Peng clutched the invitation in his hands.

What the hell was wrong with this?

He’d heard that foreigners were very open about relationships, with breakups and reconciliations being common, but this was still China. As Tang Hongen’s secretary, Secretary Peng had seen all sorts of strange things, but someone like Ji Ya still left him at a loss – despite being a Chinese person with yellow skin and black eyes, why bring foreign practices here?

This was Secretary Peng’s first time hearing about someone sending a wedding invitation to their ex-husband for their remarriage.

What kind of move was this?

They even had a son together – couldn’t she consider the impact and think about the leader’s position?

Secretary Peng hesitated at the door with the invitation, until Tang Hongen looked up: “You’ve circled the door three times today, what do you want to say?”

Never mind, he’d have to bite the bullet. Secretary Peng handed over the invitation:

“Leader, Ms. Ji had this delivered. Please take a look-“

Tang Hongen opened it to find an invitation with gold-embossed borders.

A wedding invitation.

It cordially invited Tang Hongen to attend the wedding of Ms. Ji Ya and Mr. George Wilson at 10 AM on October 2nd, hoping Tang Hongen would attend with his family.

“There’s nothing wrong with giving this. You’re overthinking it, making things too complicated.”

Secretary Peng was surprised – the leader wasn’t angry at all?

Surely any man would feel uncomfortable hearing about their ex-wife’s remarriage. Wasn’t inviting an ex-husband to the wedding provocative? The leader’s level of understanding was indeed higher than his; Secretary Peng deeply admired Tang Hongen’s mountain-like stability.

Actually, Secretary Peng had missed another possibility – besides magnanimity, an important reason for Tang Hongen’s reaction was indifference.

He had completely moved on from his failed marriage, so why be angry about Ji Ya’s intentions?

Ji Ya was indeed being provocative, not only inviting him to the wedding but specifically noting he should bring family.

Tang Hongen was distant from his relatives – what family did he have to accompany him to the wedding? Ji Ya was mocking his solitude, suggesting that even becoming mayor wasn’t enviable.

Was he alone?

He used to be.

But not anymore, right?

Tang Hongen asked Secretary Peng to leave the office, and when the time was right, he made a call to the capital.

“Ah Fen, I’d like to ask for your help, if you’re willing.”

Liu Fen was completely puzzled receiving the call.

Tang Hongen had always been the one helping them; how could she help him?

She had long forgotten about making him meals when he was sick and advising him about father-son relationships – compared to Tang Hongen’s help to the Liu family, those things were trivial.

“Go ahead…”

Tang Hongen didn’t hesitate at all: “There’s an occasion where I need to bring family members. You know I’ve been single all these years – what family do I have? To avoid people maliciously laughing at me, I can only ask you and Xiaolan to help by supporting me there, okay?”

Support Tang Hongen?

Who would dare laugh at Tang Hongen for being alone?

Even if they thought it, they wouldn’t dare say it.

Liu Fen wasn’t so easily fooled anymore. She used to be simple and dull, but even the most foolish person would become shrewd after running a business dealing directly with customers!

As she was thinking this, she heard Tang Hongen’s voice grow heavy:

“It’s Ji Ya’s wedding. She’s holding it in Peng City, and the invitation is sitting on my desk right now.”

Blood instantly rushed to Liu Fen’s head – how could someone bully people like this? Being divorced herself, Liu Fen particularly empathized. If Xia Dajun were to remarry and invite her, it would be malicious.

With Tang Hongen’s heavy tone, Liu Fen found courage from somewhere, declaring firmly over the phone:

“Alright, I’ll go with you!”
