Chapter 1304: Du Zhaohui’s Gift

A lot happened overnight.

Xia Xiaolan was still unaware that she had become a topic of discussion in both the Tang and He families, with Tang Yuanyue planning to break off his engagement for her sake.

She brought Wang Houlin and Gong Yang with her, and on their second day in Hong Kong, they were completely immersed in work. She had no time to think about Tang Yuanyue’s fiancée.

Tang Yuanyue’s villa overlooked Victoria Harbor – beautiful sea views by day, even more stunning at night.

The interior living space was 550 square meters, or in Hong Kong terms, a 6,000-square-foot luxury residence!

A large house meant expensive, but that wasn’t the most important aspect. Small houses were like trying to create a temple in a snail shell, while large houses gave designers more room to showcase their talent. Especially when the owner didn’t micromanage and had no budget constraints – every designer would secretly rejoice at such an opportunity.

Such a great chance to practice wasn’t easy to come by, even for Xia Xiaolan.

Tang Yuanyue was not like those inexperienced mainland clients who would be satisfied with just installing some lights, laying tiles, and adding decorative ceiling patterns.

Gong Yang, the former art student now serving as ‘Yuan Hui’s’ chief interior designer, didn’t dare tackle Tang Yuanyue’s luxury villa alone.

He suspected his design might end up several times worse than the villa’s current state… Gong Yang knew his limits – Tang Yuanyue wanted Xia Xiaolan, so he just quietly drew the plans.

The next day, Tang Yuanyue didn’t come to the villa.

Instead, Du Zhaohui drove over.

Xia Xiaolan gave a cold smile, “What a coincidence, Young Master Du.”

Du Zhaohui waved his hand, “I came specifically to see you. Are you free tonight?”

Xia Xiaolan pointed at the villa: “Have to work overtime.”

While it was hard to refuse Tang Yuanyue’s hospitable dinner invitations as a client, she had no time to play along with Du Zhaohui’s games. Who knew why these people had so much drama – dining with Du Zhaohui would only give her a headache!

Du Zhaohui had anticipated this response but didn’t seem embarrassed:

“I just wanted to confirm you’ll be here tonight. I’ll leave now, but I’ll bring you a gift later.”

Xia Xiaolan smiled sweetly and asked:

“Are you bringing Xia Ziyu to me?”

“…I don’t know where she is.”

Du Zhaohui’s expression became unnatural.

Xia Ziyu was the unresolvable deadlock between him and Xia Xiaolan. Should he hand her over?

That would weaken his position.

Why should he let Xia Xiaolan lead him by the nose?

Du Zhaohui sped away in his sports car, and Xia Xiaolan continued working. Bai Zhenzhu walked out of the room: “That Du guy came to harass you again.”

Bai Zhenzhu had never encountered such troubles. She never thought of herself as a woman. With Xia Xiaolan being so attractive, men were always buzzing around her like flies, really interfering with real work.

Xia Xiaolan had a headache, “Mr. Tang was right about one thing – you shouldn’t confront Du Zhaohui. This is Hong Kong, you can’t fight against overwhelming odds.”

Xia Xiaolan didn’t want to remind Du Zhaohui of this matter either.

Previously, Du Zhaohui had held back from pursuing the issue, but who knew if he might not be able to contain himself upon seeing Bai Zhenzhu?

Bai Zhenzhu knew Xia Xiaolan was concerned and didn’t stubbornly resist.

“Ke Yixiong was sentenced to death.”

Xiaolan was right, being involved in organized crime wouldn’t work.

When Ke Yixiong was at his peak, he had the White family gasping for air, showing no respect for anyone in Yangcheng.

Once he fell into the police’s hands and they traced all his crimes, it would be a death sentence even without a crackdown.

“Just at that brick factory I bought, going further into the mountains, they found seven or eight skeletons. Some died from exhaustion in the factory, others were beaten to death after being caught trying to escape.”

Xia Xiaolan clenched her fists. Human traffickers were despicable, and Ke Yixiong was even worse.

Though people didn’t die directly by his hand, he shared in these crimes.

“He deserves the death sentence.”

Wang Mingming received another invitation from Young Master Du.

Under her agent’s persuasion, Wang Mingming reluctantly dressed up carefully to meet Du Zhaohui.

Her agent Le Feng was a bit pretentious, insisting on going along.

Ah Hua didn’t refuse: “Then get in the car.”

Wang Mingming secretly sighed in relief – allowing Le Feng to come meant nothing too inappropriate would happen tonight.

Ah Hua brought them to Du Zhaohui’s mid-level villa. Le Feng was dying of envy – this place was extremely expensive, and Wang Mingming couldn’t afford property there.

Du Zhaohui was dressed properly, directing Filipino maids to load food containers into the car, too busy to pay attention to Wang Mingming and Le Feng.

Le Feng tried making conversation, “Is Young Master Du taking Mingming for a picnic on the Peak?”

Du Zhaohui nodded, “Yes, and to watch the stars too.”

Damn, was he crazy? It was almost dark – where could they have a picnic?

He’d never experienced a picnic, but he knew about hookups.

Le Feng was very tactful, “Mingming, you go ahead with Young Master Du then. Have fun, I won’t tag along.”

Du Zhaohui glanced sideways, “Who said you’re not going? You must come. Don’t waste time, get in the car!”

Du Zhaohui wasn’t gentlemanly at all.

His tone wasn’t gentle either. Wang Mingming had never met a suitor like this before.

But circumstances forced her hand – if she dared offend Du Zhaohui, she wouldn’t have dressed up and come at his beck and call tonight.

“Miss Wang, please get in the car.”

Ah Hua opened the car door. Le Feng finally sensed something was wrong – Du Zhaohui was driving his own sports car, making him and Wang Mingming ride in the car behind. This was different from what he had guessed.

If Du Zhaohui wasn’t interested in Mingming, why did he keep inviting her?

Wang Mingming also felt the atmosphere was strange.

In her decade-plus career, she’d seen many storms, but couldn’t figure out the reason for this.

However, since they were already here, they could only follow Du Zhaohui’s arrangements.

If Du Zhaohui had no interest in her, that was fine – it would save her from feeling guilty about her boyfriend. Du Zhaohui’s car led the way, while Wang Mingming and Le Feng sat silently in the following car. The driver was Du Zhaohui’s man, so it wasn’t appropriate to say anything.

Finally, Du Zhaohui stopped his car in front of a villa.

Le Feng tried hard to recognize it and whispered: “This is Yu Hua Tang’s young master’s property.”

As an agent, he was almost like paparazzi – this villa had been exposed in magazines. Tang Yuanyue was much more reliable than Du Zhaohui. At thirty, he didn’t have as many scandals as Du Zhaohui… at least on the surface. Privately, he surely had no shortage of women, but Tang Yuanyue handled things more discreetly.

“Yu Hua’s Tang Yuanyue?”

Wang Mingming and Le Feng exchanged glances, both having the same thought – was Tang Yuanyue the one looking for Wang Mingming, with Du Zhaohui just acting as an intermediary?

While Wang Mingming was lost in thought, Du Zhaohui parked his car aside and went to knock on the door.

Though it wasn’t completely dark yet, the villa’s lights were already on.

Seeing the main door open, Wang Mingming didn’t even blink, unsure whether she was anticipating or dreading what would happen.

But the person who came out wasn’t Tang Yuanyue – it was a slender, tall woman with an unforgettable face. Le Feng’s head hit the car roof hard – how could it be her?!

At the entrance, Du Zhaohui was still trying to look handsome:

“I brought someone for you. Ah Hua, get them out of the car!”
