What a damn mess!
Ah Hua opened the car door, and Wang Mingming and Le Feng got out one after another.
Le Feng’s legs were shaking constantly, and Wang Mingming wasn’t much calmer.
Xia Xiaolan had almost forgotten about these two:
“Why did you bring them here?”
Du Zhaohui sneered, “I brought them for you to deal with. I, Du Zhaohui, hate traitors who break faith more than anything. I’ve encountered two of them – how could I let them go!”
Le Feng’s legs were shaking uncontrollably, and Wang Mingming’s face turned pale.
They had guessed many possibilities – initially thinking Du Zhaohui was interested in Wang Mingming, then believing he was matchmaking for Tang Yuanyue.
They never imagined Du Zhaohui knew Xia Xiaolan.
They had no time to wonder why Xia Xiaolan was in Hong Kong.
But Xia Xiaolan knowing Du Zhaohui was deadly… It was clear now that Du Zhaohui wanted to seek revenge for Xia Xiaolan. Le Feng was scared and weak-kneed, and Wang Mingming’s steps were unsteady.
If Du Zhaohui wanted to have compromising photos or videos taken of her, she would have no power to resist.
If Du Zhaohui wanted to tie Le Feng to a rock and dump him in the sea, it would just take one word in Hong Kong.
Xia Xiaolan couldn’t fathom Du Zhaohui’s thought process and stood stunned for a while. Wang Mingming and Le Feng were terrified.
Le Feng, the coward, dropped to his knees, slapping his face: “I’m not human! It was I who wanted to make more money and persuaded Mingming to break the contract. Young Master Du, Miss Xia, please be merciful…”
Snot and saliva flew everywhere.
Xia Xiaolan couldn’t help stepping back to get farther from Le Feng, afraid his snot might get on her pants.
Xia Xiaolan ignored whether Le Feng was scared enough to kowtow or how desperate Wang Mingming looked:
“Du Zhaohui, we need to talk. Come here for a moment.”
Wang Houlin and Gong Yang were busy working on drawings inside, Bai Zhenzhu was forbidden from appearing before Du Zhaohui, and the setting sun cast a warm orange glow over Tang Yuanyue’s villa.
Xia Xiaolan had wanted to get angry, and Du Zhaohui was already feeling uncomfortable sensing her seriousness.
He was naturally thin and only a head taller than Xia Xiaolan – she could look him straight in the eyes.
Xia Xiaolan suppressed her anger and decided to reason with Du Zhaohui:
“I’ll assume you had good intentions, but why did you do this? This is the second time – first, you kidnapped Xia Ziyu and stuffed her in a trunk, threatening to tie her to a rock and dump her in the sea… Du Zhaohui, can you tell me what goes through your mind when you do these things?”
What was he thinking?
He just did whatever he wanted, whatever came to mind.
But bringing Wang Mingming and Le Feng seemed to have made Xia Xiaolan unhappy.
“Xia Xiaolan, you’re hard to please!”
Xia Xiaolan stepped forward, “I just want to run my business peacefully. You keep trying to put weapons in my hands, wanting me to solve problems with violence! Do I need you to please me?”
Was Xia Xiaolan angry about Wang Mingming breaking the contract?
Of course, she was!
But Wang Mingming’s contract breach was a business matter, and Xia Xiaolan would naturally counter it with business methods.
Wang Mingming was endorsing Ji Ya’s brand, and Xia Xiaolan would make them realize it was the wrong choice.
Du Zhaohui’s so-called “gift” was letting her dispose of Wang Mingming and Le Feng as she pleased. While seeing that agent kneeling before her was somewhat satisfying, she had no interest in watching people slap themselves.
Du Zhaohui’s eyes turned vicious. If anyone else had said these words, he would have already acted.
But it was Xia Xiaolan, standing in the warm orange light, still looking stunningly beautiful. Du Zhaohui stiffened his neck: “You damn… Xia Xiaolan, you’re tolerant of others but find fault with me. Do you think I’m easy to bully?”
Who was bullying whom?
Xia Xiaolan couldn’t help but laugh at his twisted logic.
Thinking of Bai Zhenzhu upstairs, Xia Xiaolan took a deep breath: “Young Master Du, I appreciate your good intentions, but our methods of handling things are very different. Please take them away.”
Xia Xiaolan and Du Zhaohui were arguing.
Le Feng was eavesdropping intently, while Wang Mingming clenched her fists, both feeling they might have a chance to survive now.
Du Zhaohui kicked the wall:
“Wang Mingming, was everything just your agent’s doing? You did nothing?”
Wang Mingming lowered her head, “Miss Xia, I’m sorry. My actions broke faith and rules. I hope you can forgive me. I won’t take the Elegance endorsement, and I’ll stay far away from the Wilsons in the future.”
Breaking the contract now meant not only would she not get paid, but she’d have to compensate Ji Ya.
Wang Mingming couldn’t care about the financial pain now; the wisest thing was to make her stance clear.
Xia Xiaolan glanced at Du Zhaohui, “Take whatever endorsements you want, I don’t care about that. I’m just unhappy about you standing me up at the last minute. Miss Wang, you chose the wrong side… Well, never mind, we’ll see in the future. Young Master Du, let them go. They’re affecting my work here.”
Du Zhaohui drove them away with a dark face, “Get lost, quickly!”
Le Feng’s face was covered in tears and snot. He had thought he would die here but luckily escaped with his life.
Now he was showering praise on Xia Xiaolan’s magnanimity as if it cost nothing.
Du Zhaohui was annoyed, “Get lost, hurry up.”
Le Feng and Wang Mingming didn’t dare ride in Du Zhaohui’s car, supporting each other as they walked downhill. Wang Mingming was wearing an evening gown and high heels, walking alongside Le Feng who had wet himself in fear – they looked extremely pathetic.
Du Zhaohui’s carefully prepared “gift” had backfired, and he wasn’t known for his good temper. Why should he stay and beg for a favor?
When he left, he was fuming with anger.
Xia Xiaolan had a headache from this person’s antics. As soon as she saw Du Zhaohui get in his car, she quickly called for the gate to be closed.
Du Zhaohui raced home, ordering people to throw away all the food containers in the car.
Those were meals he had prepared for Xia Xiaolan, but after being rebuffed, wouldn’t sending dinner make him look desperate?
“Ungrateful!”
Du Zhaohui grew angrier the more he thought about it. He called Ah Hua in:
“That agent makes me angry just looking at him. Have someone break one of his arms, then spread the word that Wang Mingming offended me. Let’s see who dares hire her for movies!”
Ah Hua nodded in agreement, thinking Wang Mingming and Le Feng were caught in an undeserved disaster.
“About dinner—”
“Throw it away, feed it all to the dogs!”
Even Ah Hua was being tactless tonight, asking such a stupid question.
Just as Du Zhaohui was about to explode, Ah Hua kept his head down, “Young Master, there’s something I need to report. There’s news from the Tang family – Tang Yuanyue has proposed breaking off his engagement with the He family.”
Breaking off the engagement?
Inviting Xia Xiaolan to Hong Kong while playing at breaking off engagements.
Wouldn’t this make the He family blame everything on Xia Xiaolan?
Hmph, Xia Xiaolan was ungrateful, she deserved a lesson.
“…Now that’ll be interesting to watch. Serves her right.”
While cursing, Du Zhaohui’s brow remained furrowed: “What game is that bastard Tang playing?”
