Chapter 1482: Emergency Treatment and a Slap

When Jiang Hong and Zhou Wenbin arrived at the hospital, Zhou Yi was undergoing emergency treatment.

There are many causes for maternal shock, and it was Zhou Yi’s privileged nature of insisting on a good hospital that ultimately saved her life – though Jiang Hong and Zhou Wenbin didn’t know this at the time.

When they arrived, Zhou Yi was still in danger, and no one was in the mood to look at her newborn baby.

Yuan’s mother was still disappointed about having a granddaughter when suddenly there was shock and emergency treatment. The doctors rushing in and out frightened her. Seeing Zhou Yi’s parents arrive, she awkwardly greeted her in-laws, but Jiang Hong pushed past her.

Shortly after, an older doctor entered the operating room – the most quickly available obstetrics expert. Whether through Guan Hui’e or Zhou Wenbin’s connections, they could at least find suitable doctors faster when needed.

The elderly doctor emerged after an hour, removing his mask:

“Everything’s fine now. The mother’s blood pressure has risen and is approaching normal. It wasn’t shock from a major hemorrhage, but something even more dangerous… She’s out of danger now, the family can rest assured.”

Zhou Wenbin looked grateful, but the senior expert didn’t take credit:

“Their emergency response was timely. The situation was very dangerous earlier. If they had done the C-section earlier, this wouldn’t have happened.”

The senior expert wasn’t shifting blame – if this wasn’t clarified, people might think it was the hospital’s fault.

The mother had wanted a C-section early on, and the doctors agreed they should switch from natural birth to C-section. They had come out twice to urge the family, but the in-laws couldn’t make a decision, insisting on calling the mother’s family… Was this phone call instantaneous? With all the transfers and connections, more time was wasted.

“Thank you so much!”

Zhou Wenbin was still shaken.

Just because the expert wasn’t taking credit didn’t mean the emergency treatment had been easy.

If they had been a bit later, or if there had been even a small misjudgment during treatment, Zhou Yi would have lost her life in that operating room!

Though he was disappointed in Zhou Yi and refused to acknowledge her, treating her like air, he didn’t want her to die – dying while giving birth to a child for the Yuan family, was it worth it?

Another hour passed before Zhou Yi was wheeled back to her room – not a shared room, but a private one.

Zhou Yi’s face was pale and ashen, still on an IV drip, looking lifeless.

Jiang Hong wanted to check under her nose to see if she was still breathing.

“Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, I…”

Jiang Hong had been holding back too long. Now, without any regard for dignity, she turned and slapped Yuan Han:

“Zhou Yi was taken to the hospital last night, and you only notified us today. She wanted a C-section, but you wouldn’t listen. The doctors said to do a C-section, you still wouldn’t listen. You Yuans are all black-hearted, you wanted her dead!”

The “slap” rang out loud and clear.

Yuan Han was stunned by the slap, and Yuan’s mother was shocked too.

How was this her son’s fault? Yuan Han wasn’t a doctor, and Zhou Yi had been saved!

Yuan’s mother was already disappointed about having a granddaughter, and now Yuan Han was being slapped. She couldn’t help saying: “In-law, the doctors were just being dramatic to scare us. How could we know it was so serious? We just wanted to wait until after the birth to share the good news. If you’re still angry, scold me, hit me, don’t take it out on Yuan Han.”

A man almost 30 years old, getting slapped by his mother-in-law – didn’t her son need to save face?

Jiang Hong couldn’t even be bothered to look at Yuan’s mother. Slapping Yuan Han was justifiable, but hitting Zhou Yi’s mother-in-law wouldn’t sound right.

Zhou Wenbin said coldly:

“The due date wasn’t yesterday, why did she go into labor early?”

Yuan’s eldest sister shrank in the corner, not daring to speak – Zhou Yi had been frightened by the mouse Little Long had caught.

Jiang Hong and Zhou Wenbin’s few words left the Yuan family speechless. Yuan’s second sister brought over the baby: “No one has looked at the baby yet, let’s all take a look.”

Zhou Yi’s daughter was wrapped in swaddling clothes, with rosy cheeks and thick hair visible under her cap.

Zhou Yi hadn’t lacked nutrition during pregnancy, eating well and staying active, so the baby was quite healthy.

Jiang Hong glanced over and immediately noticed the baby’s mouth and chin were exactly like Zhou Yi’s.

Zhou Yi had also been red when she was born, then grew increasingly fair. Seeing this infant reminded Jiang Hong of Zhou Yi, and she wanted to reach out to hold her, but seeing Yuan Han standing there, her heart grew cold again.

This was Zhou Yi’s daughter, but also Yuan Han’s daughter.

She had half of Yuan Han’s blood and would bear the Yuan surname… Just thinking about the Yuan family made Jiang Hong sick. She pushed past Yuan’s second sister and quickly left the room.

Zhou Wenbin followed her out.

He found Jiang Hong silently crying in the stairwell.

“Wenbin, that’s Zhou Yi’s child. Just to give birth to this little thing, Zhou Yi almost died on the operating table. If she hadn’t married into the Yuan family, would any of this have happened?”

Indeed, if she hadn’t married Yuan Han, she wouldn’t have grown distant from her parents.

No matter who Zhou Yi’s husband was, as soon as she went into labor, they would have notified Jiang Hong and Zhou Wenbin immediately.

With both of them there, they would have done the C-section when needed and started emergency treatment when required, without wasting any time. Zhou Yi likely wouldn’t have faced the danger of shock at all.

Zhou Wenbin pulled Jiang Hong’s head close, and she began sobbing.

Zhou Wenbin patted his wife’s back:

“This is a hurdle for Zhou Yi. She was ignorant before. If we didn’t let her suffer like this, she would have remained blind her whole life. I’ll send the Yuan family home soon, and we’ll stay at the hospital to take care of her.”

Jiang Hong hesitated – let the Yuan family off easy while they did the care?

“Just trust me.”

He wanted Zhou Yi to learn from suffering, as nothing else would cure her problems.

But he didn’t want Zhou Yi’s life in danger.

If the couple remained cold-hearted and left now, Zhou Yi would lean even more toward the Yuan family. Zhou Wenbin wasn’t stupid – he had previously avoided using certain tactics on family members, but if he didn’t use them now, would they end up arranging Zhou Yi’s funeral later?

Guan Hui’e rushed over.

Hearing that Zhou Yi had almost died giving birth at the hospital, Guan Hui’e was terrified.

“Big Brother, Sister-in-law, how is Zhou Yi?”

“She’s out of danger but still unconscious. Don’t go in yet, listen to me first.”

Zhou Wenbin stopped Guan Hui’e and gave her some instructions. Guan Hui’e kept saying “okay”: “The whole Yuan family is cut from the same cloth. They’re surely being sweet and accommodating to Zhou Yi now – why should they get away with that?”

Jiang Hong wiped away her tears:

“Let me go, I’ll deal with them.”

Guan Hui’e held her back, “Sister-in-law, wait. Let me go be the bad guy, so you can be the good person in front of Zhou Yi.”

Guan Hui’e was quite proud when telling this part over the phone.

Hearing his mother speak like she was performing a comedy sketch, Zhou Cheng knew Zhou Yi’s condition must be stable.

“You drove the Yuan family away and stayed at the hospital?”

Guan Hui’e suppressed her joy: “You’re wrong – it wasn’t me who drove them away. Zhou Yi herself didn’t want to see them. She not only got angry at her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law but also developed issues with Yuan Han.”

Zhou Cheng was really angry hearing the first half and disappointed in Zhou Yi – she was his cousin after all, and what kind of people were the Yuans to nearly delay Zhou Yi’s emergency treatment?

Hearing the second half, Zhou Cheng felt it was about time:

“Was it Uncle’s plan that worked?”
