Chapter 1491: Sorry, Only She Can Deliver the Documents

Du Zhaohui was unaware that he would soon formally meet his love rival.

Zhou Cheng didn’t consider him a rival, but he hadn’t expected Master Qiu to arrange to meet both of them in Fujian Province at once.

In New York.

Xia Xiaolan’s nose felt itchy.

She didn’t need Du Zhaohui’s help to find Ye Xiaoqiong. Du Zhaohui and Du Zhaoqi were mortal enemies – if Du Zhaohui approached Ye Xiaoqiong, it would truly endanger her life…

It wasn’t too difficult.

Du Zhaoqi had previously wanted to purchase a production line, so contact information must exist. Xia Xiaolan found the factory’s phone number and called.

There was no confusing Thai language – hearing it was a call from America asking for Ye Xiaoqiong, the person who answered seemed puzzled:

“She’s no longer the boss’s secretary. May I ask why you’re looking for her?”

“Was she fired?”

“No, she was just transferred to another department.”

Xia Xiaolan breathed a sigh of relief. Being transferred to another department was manageable – if she had left Du Zhaoqi’s side entirely, it would have taken much more time and effort to find her.

“Please pass a message to Ye Xiaoqiong. I want to discuss the matter of her family’s returned house with her. I hope she can call me back.”

Xia Xiaolan left her apartment’s phone number.

Actually, after 10 PM New York time would be easier to receive Ye Xiaoqiong’s call. The rented apartment was practically just a place to sleep – the GMP internship was incredibly busy!

Daisy went to Foster’s and seemed less busy than her.

However, Daisy had her troubles:

“Heidi keeps finding fault with everything!”

Xia Xiaolan wasn’t surprised: “That’s the only way she can make her presence felt. Don’t mind her, and don’t tolerate her either. Let her do whatever as long as it doesn’t affect your work, but if it does affect you, don’t be polite to her… I don’t believe Heidi truly doesn’t care about her internship at Foster’s. She’s not an exceptionally gifted student – she only got this internship opportunity because she was paired with Jonathan.”

If Heidi didn’t cherish this opportunity, getting another internship at a place like Foster’s wouldn’t be easy.

She was just bullying Daisy for being honest and using underhanded tactics.

For an intern to cause trouble at the firm – if she dared to make a big scene, she truly didn’t want things to go well!

Sure enough, after Daisy followed Xia Xiaolan’s advice and strongly confronted Heidi twice, the latter behaved much better.

Since they were interning at different firms, and GMP and Foster had competing projects, Xia Xiaolan and Daisy had already made a pact: they could discuss workplace relationships back at the apartment but absolutely no work talk.

Professional vigilance was necessary – wouldn’t accidentally leaking information betray their respective firms?

In fact, at GMP, the design team led by senior architect Hans Hoffman had gradually perfected the hotel’s design plans. Xia Xiaolan never made mistakes at work, making Grey’s job much easier. From her first accidental entry into Hoffman’s office to being allowed free access, Xia Xiaolan had spent exactly one week.

Matthew made a mistake at first but quickly corrected it, taking a few extra days to earn Grey’s trust.

Though later than Xia Xiaolan by several days, Matthew still managed to get involved in the project.

Grey discovered that the two undergraduate interns from Cornell were more useful than she had expected!

Xia Xiaolan handled matters expertly, while Matthew started rough but improved quickly.

With their help, Grey’s workload decreased significantly, making her much more pleasant toward the two interns:

“Tomorrow Mr. Hoffman will meet with Wilson Hotel’s representative. You’ve both been working hard for many days – you can take a day off to rest at home.”

Was GMP ready to submit the design plans?

Having participated for several days, even though just doing odd jobs, Xia Xiaolan knew the project’s progress.

In her view, the new hotel design only had a framework – could it be submitted like this?

Grey noticed her confusion, and probably because she could also take a day off after continuous overtime, she was in a good mood and explained to Xia Xiaolan: “A major project’s design can’t be finalized in one go. We need to communicate with clients regularly, listen to their ideas, and make timely modifications.”

Participating in architectural design competitions allowed for complete creative freedom.

But to get clients to pay for designs, they had to balance the firm’s style and the architect’s vision while respecting the client’s wishes.

Xia Xiaolan suddenly understood – premier firms like GMP excelled not only in design ability but also in service quality.

The one paying is the boss – GMP wouldn’t make paying clients uncomfortable. Not just GMP, Foster’s and P&W must also be busy communicating with clients – after all, the client was Harold Wilson himself, and billionaires were always this popular.

Xia Xiaolan didn’t mention that she knew Harold or ask Hoffman to take her along.

It wouldn’t help anyway – if GMP’s design was too poor, Xia Xiaolan could not change Harold’s mind… She didn’t yet realize that she had some influence over Harold.

Xia Xiaolan hadn’t thought about it that way.

The bigger the project, the less personal preferences mattered. If Xia Xiaolan were investing in projects, she would be the same – when it came time to make decisions, she preferred to keep things strictly professional.

When Grey announced the interns could take a day off, Matthew cast an envious glance at Xia Xiaolan. One misstep did put him far behind – Grey was closer to Xia Xiaolan, was it because they were both women or because of the time spent together in Hoffman’s office?

“Are you taking tomorrow off?”

Xia Xiaolan was tempted to trick Matthew, tell him she wouldn’t come to work, then secretly show up – but why do that? People should maintain some honesty:

“No, I’ll come to work as usual tomorrow.”

Matthew gritted his teeth – was it easy to complete a week’s work in three days?

Was it easy to gain Grey’s favor?

No, it wasn’t easy at all!

With both body and spirit on the verge of collapse, Matthew wanted to rest for a day.

But if Xia Xiaolan wouldn’t rest, he dared not rest either.

Of course, if Xia Xiaolan had told him to rest, Matthew would have worried she was tricking him. Thinking about it this way, her answer was quite sincere.

“I’m coming to work tomorrow too!”

With both interns working desperately without taking days off, showing more dedication than the firm’s regular employees, the receptionist was surprised to see them arrive one after another the next day.

Grey wasn’t there to assign work to Xia Xiaolan and Matthew, so they looked for ways to help on their own.

Having more interns like these would surely please the firm’s partners – creating maximum value with minimum cost was exactly what these heartless capitalists needed!

“Ring ring~”

At 10 AM, a phone call came unexpectedly.

The assistant who answered made a few acknowledging sounds, then called to Xia Xiaolan: “Do you know the Wilson Hotel in Queens? Mr. Hoffman left a document in his office – could you deliver it to him? It needs to be quick.”

Matthew stepped forward with a smile, “I can go too. Xia hasn’t been in New York long and might not be familiar enough with the city.”

The assistant glanced at Matthew, “Mr. Hoffman specifically requested Xia to deliver it, so it has to be her. Matthew, sorry!”
