Chapter 1498: Who Can Save Who?

“Why should I help that Zhou woman?”

“If what happened to her counts as being deceived, then what about me?”

“At least half of my suffering was caused by her!”

“Perhaps letting her taste the bitterness I’ve endured would be true revenge!”

These thoughts surfaced one after another, completely beyond Ye Xiaoqiong’s control.

She even cynically thought about how Xia Xiaolan and Zhou Cheng refused to help with the production line issue before, but now that it involved someone close to them, they came asking if she needed help and if she wanted to team up against Yuan Han.

No!

If she had succeeded with the production line matter, she would have had the power to take revenge herself.

She had earned Young Master Du’s favor, but because of one failed task, she was cast down to the lowest level.

Xia Xiaolan asked which department she was transferred to.

As Du Zhaoji’s secretary, she became a factory worker on the production line!

The workshop machines rumbled endlessly, and the image of the polished female secretary was far from Ye Xiaoqiong now – she was covered in sweat like the local Thai workers.

Ye Xiaoqiong dragged her heavy steps toward her residence.

She wouldn’t admit defeat.

If she could carry heavy loads at Hong Kong’s docks, she could certainly work in the factory.

She hoped Young Master Du was just temporarily angry, and if she could remain patient, she might be called back to his side.

That was Ye Xiaoqiong’s previous plan, but now it was different. Now there was a fire burning in her heart – she couldn’t continue wasting time in the workshop while Yuan Han lived the good life in Beijing as a leader’s son-in-law!

Why should she save Zhou Yi?

Who could save her?

“…Being a good person, how ridiculous.”

If only Xia Xiaolan and Zhou Cheng hadn’t helped her on the train, if they’d left her to fend for herself, she wouldn’t be so conflicted now.

Why did they have to tell her the truth?

Why did it have to be Zhou Cheng’s cousin?

How many “whys” are there in this world?

What happens happens – could you erase it with a rubber and pretend it never occurred?

While Ye Xiaoqiong felt miserable, Jiang Hong and Zhou Wengang were equally confused. Zhou Yi blindly fell into the Yuan family’s trap – it wasn’t like they hadn’t tried to stop her, but they simply couldn’t!

Zhou Yi eloped.

Zhou Yi got pregnant.

Zhou Yi wanted to marry.

Zhou Yi gave birth.

Zhou Yi needed emergency treatment after delivery.

These things happened one after another, and Zhou Wengang and Jiang Hong had to worry about each one.

They couldn’t put the baby back after it was born – if Zhou Wengang had a choice, he would have preferred Zhou Yi abort when she first got pregnant!

Today Zhou Wengang called Yuan Han to the hospital to inform him about Zhou Yi going abroad – this was the first time Zhou Wengang had dealt with him since his marriage to Zhou Yi.

Yuan Han was nervous, not knowing what Zhou Wengang wanted to say.

About Zhou Yi’s postpartum shock, Yuan Han felt wrong – he didn’t understand women’s childbirth matters. During Zhou Yi’s pregnancy, he believed he had taken good care of her – was he supposed to study obstetrics too?

His mother disliked that Zhou Yi had a daughter, and Yuan Han had been working on changing their mindset at home these past few days.

Who didn’t prefer sons?

Yuan Han had also hoped Zhou Yi would have a boy.

But Zhou Yi had given birth to a daughter, and with the current strict family planning policy, unless it changed, he and Zhou Yi might only have this daughter. Yuan Han was disappointed but couldn’t show even a hint of this disappointment.

Heaven knows, he truly wanted Zhou Yi to be safe and sound – just as Jiang Hong had shouted on the phone, without Zhou Yi, he would have no connection to the Zhou family at all!

Zhou Yi had nearly died, and the Zhou family was certainly very angry. While Yuan Han had been busy comforting Zhou Yi these past few days, he was also anxiously waiting for the Zhou family’s response. Now that Zhou Wengang finally wanted to talk to him alone, Yuan Han couldn’t be more nervous.

“Father-in-law—”

“Don’t call me that yet. I never acknowledged you as the Zhou family’s son-in-law – Zhou Yi foolishly chose to marry you herself. I don’t like you, but now you and Zhou Yi even have a child together. Let’s set aside what happened during childbirth – I just want to ask about your plans.”

Zhou Wengang was holding his nose while talking to Yuan Han.

Yuan Han was quite surprised.

Zhou Wengang wasn’t blaming him? It sounded like he was going to arrange work for him.

Yuan Han controlled his delighted expression:

“Of course I want to work. It’s not that I’m unwilling to stay home and care for Xiaoyi, but as a man, how could I let Xiaoyi work to support me? That would be too hard on her. But since Xiaoyi just gave birth, I’ll stay home first to help with the baby after she’s discharged. We can talk about work later when she’s recovered… That’s my plan.”

There wasn’t any fault to find with these words.

Always putting Zhou Yi first – if they hadn’t discovered the Yuan family’s despicable deeds, over time, Zhou Wengang and Jiang Hong’s attitudes might have softened.

Now though, Zhou Wengang felt sick watching Yuan Han’s pretense!

“You’ll return to your original workplace, with some changes to your position – you won’t be sidelined anymore. As for Zhou Yi, she won’t need your care. After her postpartum confinement, she’ll go abroad for further studies. These two things must happen together – you and Zhou Yi can discuss it yourselves.”

Zhou Wengang left abruptly after delivering these harsh words.

Yuan Han was happy hearing the first part, but slowly realized the implications.

They were trying to separate him from Zhou Yi?

The Zhou family was arranging work for him to pacify him.

They were treating him like a beggar!

Yuan Han was furious but showed only distress as he entered the hospital room: “Xiaoyi, we need to talk. I know you’re still angry, but Father-in-law says you’re going abroad for studies – is this your idea?”

Zhou Yi rolled her eyes, “You don’t want to return to work?”

Yuan Han choked.

Of course, he wanted to go back!

Any man would have ambition, and Yuan Han not only had ambition but was willing to work for it. Now that Zhou Wengang had finally relented, even knowing something was off, he couldn’t help being tempted.

Is Zhou Yi studying abroad?

When their relationship was good, he wouldn’t have worried, but now Zhou Yi was angry, making Yuan Han hesitant.

He feared losing the watermelon while picking up sesame seeds – what if Zhou Yi never returned?

Zhou Yi turned her face away, “Since you’re willing, let’s follow my father’s plan – I’ll go abroad, and you’ll return to work. You know why I was admitted to the hospital early, even if my parents didn’t. And your mother blocking the doctors from performing a C-section – I don’t want to see anyone from your family now. Going abroad is perfect; otherwise, this life is unbearable!”

Zhou Yi’s words eased half of Yuan Han’s concerns – she was just throwing a tantrum.

As long as she was willing to talk, Yuan Han wasn’t afraid of her anger:

“I’ll return to work, but don’t go abroad. I’ll send my mother and sisters back home – wouldn’t that stop them from bothering you? We’ve only been married for half a year – how could you bear to leave me, to leave our daughter behind?”
