Chapter 2008: Just Like the Rest of the Wilsons

Harold also wanted Tina dead.

Tina had no connection to him, and he wouldn’t be the one killing her. He just needed to stand by and let Mrs. Wilson or Ivan do it, then reveal the evidence… The Wilsons would face the consequences!

In this power struggle, no one considered what would happen to Tina.

Tina wasn’t a bad person – why was her life worth so little?

Anger surged through Xia Xiaolan as she quickly left the room.

“Open the door!”

The room was locked, with Mrs. Wilson and Tina alone inside. Although Harold had triggered the alarm, Xia Xiaolan still feared what Mrs. Wilson might do to Tina. Mrs. Wilson seemed unaware of the glass wall – and if there was a glass wall, surely there would be surveillance cameras too?

Xia Xiaolan couldn’t understand Mrs. Wilson’s logic, how she planned to frame Harold while keeping herself clean.

But Tina was still in danger!

While Xia Xiaolan couldn’t sacrifice herself to save someone, she also couldn’t stand by and watch Tina die.

Harold wanted to explain that once he pressed the alarm, the room’s siren would sound, interrupting whatever Cynthia planned to do.

In other words, when Xia Xiaolan called to warn him and he sent Butler Allen downstairs to meet her, he had already abandoned his original plan.

But explaining this now was pointless.

Xia Xiaolan’s moral line differed from his. She believed innocent people should never be involved, while Harold thought no one was truly innocent – perhaps Tina was innocent, but so what? She foolishly trusted the wrong people; should he be blamed for being ruthless?

Xia Xiaolan ran ahead, with Harold following behind.

At Harold’s command, his bodyguards had already secured the adjacent room.

Mrs. Wilson was pinned to the ground.

“What are you doing? Let me go!”

She had remarkable composure, even trying to play the victim after being caught.

Xia Xiaolan wanted to hit her, “We should be asking what you planned to do to Tina. You’re truly evil – she trusted you so much!”

Dropping out of Columbia to follow the Wilsons to China for so long – how much trust did that require?

An innocent greenhouse flower who had never done anything wrong yet dared to follow Mrs. Wilson to steal from Harold’s office – Tina must have had genuine feelings for the Wilsons!

Harold slowly entered.

“The theft was fake, the frame-up was real. What, disappointed that you and Ivan couldn’t kill me at the hotel last year?”

Mrs. Wilson naturally wouldn’t admit it.

Though panicked at being caught red-handed, she hadn’t done anything yet – at most, it was just breaking.

“I want to see my lawyer. I won’t speak to you until my lawyer arrives.”

Xia Xiaolan checked Tina’s pulse and detected lingering traces of a chemical smell – it seemed Tina was just unconscious.

Harold sneered: “Lawyer? You and Ivan are bankrupt. What lawyer can you afford? You think I’ll give you the chance to get one! I didn’t touch George because he appeared unaware of your and Ivan’s plans. Why would a fired security chief try to shoot me? Do you think I haven’t figured it out? Your good friend on the city council posed quite a threat to me… Unfortunately for you, he died too early.”

Allen quietly reassured Xia Xiaolan, “The doctor will be here soon.”

The doctor and police arrived almost simultaneously, with the police arriving slightly faster and taking Mrs. Wilson away.

Harold didn’t even try to stop them. He wasn’t worried about such minor charges being insufficient to punish Cynthia and Ivan. As he said, the couple would eventually be crushed by their schemes – they courted Tina not for her small inheritance, but for Zhang Jiandong’s remaining influence.

Zhang Jiandong’s people were scattered in the shadows, lacking unity after his death.

These gang members had no cohesion without him.

They all distrusted each other.

But if something happened to the “young master” they were supposed to protect, they would have a common cause.

Whoever could avenge the “young master” would surely become the new boss.

Tina was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital.

Mrs. Wilson was taken to the police station.

Harold then told Xia Xiaolan some of what he’d discovered after last year’s shooting at the Wilson Hotel.

Ivan had indeed threatened Harold’s safety using Zhang Jiandong’s influence. The shooting appeared to be revenge from a disgruntled ex-security chief, but investigation traced it to Los Angeles, where someone had manipulated Hector into acting.

Someone was crafting the perfect “accident.”

Harold, still unmarried and childless, didn’t know who to name in his will. If something sudden happened, Ivan would be the primary heir. Of course, other Wilsons would share the inheritance, but Ivan would get the largest portion.

Hector’s assassination attempt failed.

Ivan and Cynthia hadn’t given up.

Harold feared Zhang Jiandong, but perhaps even God wasn’t on Ivan’s side – Zhang Jiandong had an accident in Hong Kong and died there!

“Bankrupting them was already merciful, but they wouldn’t leave me alone.”

Harold’s face turned cold.

Xia Xiaolan said nothing and drove to the hospital.

The Wilsons weren’t innocent.

But Harold watching their schemes, deliberately allowing Tina to work at the golf club, wasn’t just about catching the Wilsons in the act.

Harold resented Zhang Jiandong’s remaining influence. While the Wilsons wanted to use this power to kill Harold, he turned their plan against them, intending to use Tina’s death to draw out these forces – letting them eliminate the Wilsons before he eliminated them.

Heh.

True to their “Wilson” name, they thought alike, planning everything out perfectly.

Only Tina was caught in the middle, nearly becoming collateral damage.

Fortunately, Xia Xiaolan had met with Tina today, fortunately, she had brought Tina here, and fortunately, she noticed something was wrong!

Butler Allen silently followed behind.

He felt Mr. Harold was finished.

He had warned that this was wrong, but Harold insisted.

Yes, Xia Xiaolan’s intervention had made Harold change his mind at the crucial moment… but what use was that? In Miss Xia’s eyes, Mr. Harold’s image was surely ruined!

Today, Mao Kangshan and the other two architects would wait in vain for Xia Xiaolan at the Metropolitan Museum.

Tina’s situation had happened suddenly.

Xia Xiaolan had to rush to the hospital to check on Tina’s condition.

Mrs. Wilson, probably fearing Tina would wake up midway, had used too much sedative. Tina didn’t regain consciousness quickly… Anesthesia is a complex medical field – even anesthesiologists need professional training and constant patient monitoring to determine the appropriate dosage.

Tina remained in a daze, only fully awakening a day later.

When she opened her eyes, she saw a wrinkled face.
