The Glow of Dusk – Chapter 45

After the drinking ended, everyone gradually left, leaving only Chen Xi and Qin Lie.

In the depths of the night, the small bed endured a second wave of heavy burden.

Chen Xi didn’t know how she and Qin Lie ended up rolling onto it.

Probably the stimulation they had just experienced was too intense – both she and Qin Lie were somewhat out of control.

Qin Lie went about his business without a word, while Chen Xi was drenched in sweat amid the intense movement.

Her face buried in the pillow, her cries gradually went from suppressed to unrestrained.

For a moment, she felt she wasn’t like a human, but like an animal.

After it was over, the two squeezed together on the narrow bed.

Chen Xi was so exhausted she couldn’t even open her eyes, falling asleep drenched in sweat.

Half-asleep, she seemed to hear Qin Lie whisper something low in her ear.

She hummed in response, wanting to ask what he said, but the next second she sank into sweet sleep.

When she woke up, Chen Xi found that Qin Lie surprisingly hadn’t left – one arm was wrapped around her.

His breathing was steady and deep, sleeping soundly.

With some rustling, Chen Xi turned to face Qin Lie.

Outside, the sky was bright, and sunlight shone through the overhead window onto the pillow.

Chen Xi stared blankly at the sleeping Qin Lie and suddenly realized this man wasn’t bad-looking.

His brow bone was slightly prominent, his nose bridge straight and upright. Though his lip line was full, it was very masculine.

These features combined to outline a three-dimensional profile.

Looking carefully, this guy had quite long eyelashes.

Too bad he usually didn’t smile much and had a cold temperament.

A rough man who made it hard for people to notice he was quite handsome.

Chen Xi inexplicably reached out a finger and touched Qin Lie’s long eyelashes.

The next second, Qin Lie suddenly opened his eyes and looked at her without saying a word.

Chen Xi quickly clenched her misbehaving finger and looked into his eyes.

The indulgent scenes from a few hours ago suddenly rushed into her mind, making Chen Xi’s heart flutter.

After a moment of silence.

She asked, “What did you say to me before falling asleep?”

Qin Lie looked at her for a long while, then suddenly captured her lips.

The two were shameless once more.

Chen Xi discovered that they were surprisingly compatible in that aspect – every time he could make her feel like she was dying of pleasure.

The small bed finally quieted down. Chen Xi clung to Qin Lie’s body and sighed comfortably.

Suddenly, she heard Qin Lie’s deep voice, “Date me.”

Chen Xi froze, and her leg wrapped around Qin Lie unconsciously lowered.

Her heart, still floating in the clouds, crashed to the ground with a clang.

A moment later, she broke free from Qin Lie’s embrace.

She suddenly sat up, grabbed a wrinkled T-shirt from the bed, and put it on.

Qin Lie also silently got up, picked up the clothes from the floor, and put them on one by one.

The silence grew longer, and a trace of awkwardness gradually grew in the air.

Qin Lie finished dressing, stood up by the bed, and looked at Chen Xi with her head down, still not speaking.

His Adam’s apple moved. He looked at her again, then silently walked toward the door.

When Qin Lie reached the door, he heard Chen Xi’s low voice behind him.

“Qin Lie…”

Qin Lie paused and turned to look at Chen Xi.

Her hair was disheveled as she sat on the bed.

Probably due to lack of sleep, her whole face was a bit pale, her lips so light they were almost colorless.

Chen Xi looked up at Qin Lie with calm eyes and a peaceful voice.

“I’m sorry… I don’t want to date anyone yet.”

Qin Lie glanced at her, said nothing, pushed the door open, and walked out.

The door closed, and Chen Xi slumped back onto the bed, gradually feeling irritated.

Being honest with herself, she did have feelings for Qin Lie.

But she was past the age where she would impulsively throw herself into passionate love.

She would rather not start a relationship that had no future.

Chen Xi stared at the ceiling and sighed softly.

Their current state was quite enjoyable for both of them.

She felt a bit depressed, a bit regretful, and a bit angry at Qin Lie.

After that morning, Qin Lie rarely came to the VR arcade.

Chen Xi was busy every day and didn’t let herself think too much about it.

This morning, while working, Yang Shan called Chen Xi, asking if she had time at noon to help a colleague from the hospital look at a used car.

It happened that the shop wasn’t busy today, so Chen Xi readily agreed.

At noon, Chen Xi rode her motorcycle to the used car market on Riverside Road.

Yang Shan and her colleague had already arrived and were waiting at the market entrance.

Under the blazing sun, Yang Shan held a parasol, but her face was still flushed red from the heat.

Standing beside her was a petite woman, also holding a parasol.

Chen Xi stopped her bike in front of the two, took off her helmet, and smiled at Yang Shan’s colleague.

“You want to buy a used car?”

Yang Shan’s colleague nodded and said with a smile, “Sorry to trouble you to make this trip in the middle of the day.”

Chen Xi: “Don’t be polite, let’s go take a look.”

Chen Xi pushed her motorcycle and walked into the market with Yang Shan and her colleague.

Yang Shan moved to Chen Xi’s left side and held the parasol over her.

Chen Xi casually said, “No need.”

But Yang Shan insisted, nagging, “You’re just relying on your good foundation. In such strong sun, you should at least wear a sun hat when going out.”

Chen Xi didn’t care and turned to ask Yang Shan’s colleague, “What car are you interested in?”

Yang Shan’s colleague said as they walked, “I’m looking at a BMW 3 Series, less than 50,000 kilometers, almost brand new, for 150,000 yuan.”

She asked Chen Xi, “That price is quite reasonable, right?”

Chen Xi: “Let me take a look first.”

She instructed Yang Shan’s colleague.

“When I’m examining the car, don’t ask too many questions. We’ll talk privately after I’m done looking. Don’t say anything in front of the seller.”

Yang Shan’s colleague nodded, her expression suddenly becoming nervous.

“What’s wrong? Is there something tricky about this?”

Chen Xi: “Used cars have deep waters. Yang Shan was right to have you find me.”

Yang Shan’s colleague suddenly looked distressed, “What should I do? I already paid a deposit. Today, when Yang Shan said you understand cars, I still wanted you to take a look. What if there’s a problem with this car?”

Chen Xi was somewhat speechless and asked, “How much deposit did you pay?”

Yang Shan’s colleague said, “Twenty thousand.”

Chen Xi comforted her, “There might not be a problem. Let’s take a look first.”

The used car market wasn’t very lively at noon. The three chatted as they walked and soon reached their destination.

Yang Shan’s colleague pointed to a white BMW parked in front of a shop and said, “That’s the one.”

The shop owner was sitting inside smoking. Seeing customers arrive, he slowly got up and sauntered out.

Seeing Yang Shan’s colleague, he smiled and said, “The car is all ready for you.”

Chen Xi glanced at the car’s exterior and directly asked the owner, “Can I test drive it?”

The owner saw it was a woman and didn’t care much. Besides, the deposit was already paid, so he wasn’t worried about them backing out.

He said indifferently, “Go ahead and drive it. This car is already reserved for her anyway.”

Chen Xi opened the car door, and a wave of hot air hit her face.

Worried that Yang Shan couldn’t handle it, she didn’t let the two get in the car. She originally wanted to test drive alone, but the shop owner insisted on getting in the car.

Chen Xi had no choice but to let him come along.

Throughout the ride, the owner’s mouth never stopped for a minute, praising the car to the skies.

Chen Xi felt he was being overly enthusiastic. If the car was as good as he claimed, wouldn’t people be fighting over it for 150,000? Why was he so eager to get rid of it?

Chen Xi kept her guard up and said nothing along the way.

After getting out of the car, while the shop owner was talking to Yang Shan and her colleague, she opened the car door and pulled down the original factory seal.

She looked at the original factory welding spots where the A-pillar connected to the car body and found cracks.

She then walked around the car and looked at the dates on the car windows.

She found that the dates on the front windshield and left door window were different from the other windows – they had been replaced.

Chen Xi immediately determined this was an accident car.

Based on the windshield replacement, it should have been a major accident.

She sighed softly. It would have been fine if no deposit had been paid, but with a deposit paid, things got complicated.

Anyone who could sell an accident car as a nearly new car wasn’t a good person and had no conscience.

They might even be local gangsters who weren’t to be messed with.

Chen Xi didn’t want to conflict with such people.

But since she had been asked to look, she couldn’t just stand by and watch.

“How is it? Will you pay today?”

The shop owner was still trying to deceive Yang Shan’s colleague.

Chen Xi walked to Yang Shan’s colleague and put her hand on her shoulder.

With an unchanged expression, she squeezed her shoulder lightly.

Yang Shan’s colleague was about to nod when Chen Xi squeezed her shoulder, still not quite understanding what was happening.

She looked at Chen Xi in confusion, but Chen Xi wasn’t looking at her – instead, she was smiling at the shop owner.

He was also looking at her with a smiling face.

He asked, “This car is good, right? Don’t hesitate anymore. If you keep hesitating, someone else will snatch it up.”

Chen Xi spoke unhurriedly, “The car is good, and the performance is good too.”

The shop owner quickly urged, “Then what are you waiting for?”

Chen Xi nodded and said with a smile, “Big brother, my friend is short on cash. Can we get this car for 80,000?”

Upon hearing this, the owner was immediately stunned.

Even Yang Shan and her colleague were bewildered by this sudden turn of events, all staring blankly at Chen Xi.

Yang Shan’s colleague was about to speak when Yang Shan quietly grabbed her wrist.

Yang Shan knew Chen Xi best – if she was doing this, she had her reasons.

After a long while, he asked incredulously, “How much?”

Chen Xi: “Eighty thousand.”

The owner laughed angrily.

“Miss, are you playing with me? Selling it to you for 80,000, I’d lose 30,000.”

“If my friend weren’t urgently in need of money, this car wouldn’t be going for such a cheap price of 150,000.”

Chen Xi remained calm.

“Big brother, just 80,000. If you sell for 80,000, we’ll pay today. If not, you need to refund the deposit.”

The owner’s previously smiling face gradually became serious. “Miss, what do you mean by that?”

Chen Xi said nothing, walked around the car twice, then raised her hand and gently tapped the front windshield.

Then she tapped the window on the driver’s side.

She looked up at the man and saw his expression change immediately.

Chen Xi then opened the hood and pointed at the engine.

“Big brother, you know what problems this car has.”

The man’s face immediately darkened.

Chen Xi smiled and continued, “I was originally thinking 80,000 would give you a business deal, but big brother, you’re not being honest. You think my friend is a woman and you can fleece her like a sheep?”

She smiled as she slowly walked up to the man and whispered something to him.

Yang Shan and her colleague watched blankly, thinking Chen Xi was quietly negotiating the price with him.

Only the man heard Chen Xi’s words that concealed a threat.

“Big brother, an accident car, and you dare to sell it. Do you know what my friend’s husband does?”

After saying this, she took a small step back.

She said pleasantly, “Refund the deposit quickly, or this car will smash up your business.”

Chen Xi leisurely looked at the other cars, her gaze full of meaning.

The shop owner stood there stunned. After a while, he suddenly waved his hand and said with an unlucky expression, “Consider it my bad luck.”

As he spoke, he transferred back the 20,000 yuan that Yang Shan’s colleague had sent yesterday.

He was still cursing under his breath, “If you don’t have money, why buy a car?”

Yang Shan’s colleague didn’t understand what was happening. Hearing this, she wanted to argue with the man, but Chen Xi grabbed her.

“Let’s go.”

Chen Xi calmly led the two women out.

Yang Shan’s colleague was completely confused, asking as they walked, “What was that about?”

Chen Xi walked some distance before saying grimly, “That was an accident car. The windows had been replaced, and the engine had major repairs.”

“It should have been a major accident. Maybe someone even died in it.”

Under the blazing sun, Yang Shan’s colleague immediately broke out in a cold sweat. When they reached the market entrance, her legs were still weak.

She kept thanking Chen Xi and insisted on treating her to dinner.

Chen Xi waved her hand and said, “What’s my relationship with Yang Shan? No need to be so polite.”

She watched the two get into Yang Shan’s car and slowly drive away before getting on her motorcycle and heading straight to the repair shop.

In the market, the shop owner had a vicious look on his face, cursing as he lit a cigarette.

“Damn bitch, if I find out who she is, I’ll kill her.”

A tall, burly man with tattooed arms walked out of the shop and said quietly, “Brother, I know this woman. She runs a repair shop on the national highway.”
