June 1st——
Bai Youwei was dressed in a powder-blue floral sundress, holding a white fluffy rabbit plush, standing quietly on a velvet carpet that exuded the scent of fruit.
She looked very well-behaved, though her expression was one of boredom.
“Hey, where are we?” Bai Youwei asked the ball beside her. “Is this your territory?”
The ball, today shaped like a warm orange yarn ball, rustled the threads on its surface and spoke with a trace of helplessness: “It’s not my territory.”
“Then is it your territory?” Bai Youwei asked the will-o’-wisp not far away.
The will-o’-wisp replied in a thin, quiet voice: “Not mine either.”
“Then why did we suddenly end up here?” Bai Youwei said irritably. “What’s going on? I was just about to go out shopping with my boyfriend!”
Nearby, the comic-panel man couldn’t help but say: “As an Inspector, you’re actually so captivated by the lowly interest of romance……”
“If you don’t know how to make conversation, then please be quiet.” Bai Youwei shot him a sideways glance. “Your own appearance is modeled on a girls’ romance comic. What gives you the right to talk, hmph!”
The comic-panel man argued earnestly: “My form embodies the characteristics of the most trend-setting cultural product of that era!”
Bai Youwei said with full disdain: “Boys’ love dramas are popular now — try changing into that if you dare~”
The comic-panel man: “……”
Two more flashes of white light appeared, and the grey-robed elder and the puppeteer arrived as well. Seeing everyone gathered here, these two Inspectors also showed surprise on their faces.
Bai Youwei said coolly: “So it’s not their territory either.”
“It’s probably a holiday event,” the ball said, having more experience with these things. “Sometimes holidays involve special activities. I checked the calendar — today is Children’s Day.”
“Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall……” the comic-panel man said slowly. “Seventy-eight years ago, there was a Halloween event, and all of us Inspectors were transported to a graveyard.”
“One hundred and thirty-six years ago, there was Arbor Day,” the grey-robed elder added.
The puppeteer: “Oh!~ And the April Fools’ Day from two hundred and sixty-one years ago!”
Bai Youwei was at a complete loss: “The timing of these holiday events is completely random.”
Before she’d even finished speaking, the door to the room opened——
Tu Shenshi stood in the doorway, looking at the assembled Inspectors inside with a smile, and spoke unhurriedly:
“To celebrate Children’s Day on June 1st, the special instance ‘Candy House’ has been issued. Successfully leaving the Candy House will earn a special holiday reward. Rules explanation will now begin.”
Having finished speaking, his figure suddenly disappeared, replaced by an enormous little girl who came barreling in through the door with bared teeth!
Bai Youwei was startled.
Because the little girl was extremely hideous! Not only was she stocky and stout, but her neck was nearly as wide and thick as her head! Her eyeballs protruded exaggeratedly, the corners of her mouth were smeared with saliva, and despite being already quite grotesque-looking, she was wearing a frilly pink dress — it was genuinely off-putting.
The freakish girl stumbled the moment she entered and fell down, then slid along the smooth floor at speed to the far wall of the room.
She didn’t bother getting up. She just stayed sprawled on the ground and started gnawing loudly at the wall corner and the floor.
Only then did Bai Youwei notice that the wallpaper was a layer of white chocolate, while the floor was crispy wafer biscuit, and even the velvet carpet beneath her own feet was woven from marshmallow.
No wonder it was called Candy House.
But hadn’t Tu Shenshi just said he was going to explain the rules? Why had this freakish thing come charging in instead?
She was puzzling over this when she saw another person come charging through the door!
Similar in appearance but roughly twice as large in size — clearly the little girl’s mother.
The freakish mother grabbed the little girl’s ear, preventing her from continuing to eat the Candy House.
The little girl erupted into a piercing wail, thrashing wildly! She was still no match for her mother, and in the end was dragged out of the Candy House by her ear, kicking and struggling all the way.
