Chapter 171: The Five-Person Team

He didn’t choose a supermarket.

Hangzhou had had incidents earlier than Yangzhou, and people had evacuated earlier too. The supermarkets probably didn’t have much left.

The residential complex was still worth exploring though. Some residents who had left in a hurry should still have quite a bit of stored food at home.

Shen Mo wanted to find some vegetables and fruits to improve their meals.

He first climbed into a yard lush with flowers and plants. Lucky for him, he found a string of green cucumbers growing at the corner of the wall, and in another yard, he found potted cherry tomatoes.

After searching several more homes, some yards had scallions and garlic planted, while others just had ordinary flowers and plants.

Still, it was pretty good.

After all, first-floor residences with yards weren’t common nowadays.

Before he knew it, he’d come from the complex’s south gate to the north gate.

Estimating he’d been out for quite a while and preparing to return the same way, the road surface outside the complex suddenly brightened, as if illuminated by distant headlights.

Shen Mo frowned, swung his backpack behind him, gripped a nearby tree trunk, climbed up in a few steps, and crouched in the dense canopy to observe.

Indeed, a car was coming.

When the distance was a bit closer, he heard the rustling sound of wheels rolling on the road surface. For some reason, the driver was going very slowly.

Getting closer still, he heard intense talking—both male and female voices. It wasn’t quite an argument, but judging by the tone, definitely not pleasant.

After waiting a bit longer, a rugged and sturdy-looking jeep came into view.

The vehicle had obviously been modified, with very distinctive wheels and headlights. The roof was wide open, with five people sitting inside.

Three men and two women.

Shen Mo instinctively frowned, not only because he thought of the team Tu Dan had mentioned before, but also because these people were actually carrying weapons.

These days, those who could obtain weapons were either soldiers or bandits.

Shen Mo concealed his presence in the tree, avoiding detection.

The jeep slowly drove into the complex.

The driver was a middle-aged fat uncle—more accurately, not fat but burly, built like a bear with a back like a tiger’s, full of stubble, thoroughly imposing!

The man in the passenger seat formed a sharp contrast with him—handsome and refined in appearance, with a serene and scholarly temperament.

Further back, a woman in red sat on the left side, her eyebrows raised coldly, her face full of impatience.

On the right was a young man wearing glasses, holding an injured young woman in his arms, complaining indignantly:

“Su Man, that’s enough! Zhu Shu didn’t do it on purpose. Is it necessary to speak so harshly?!”

“You think I’m speaking harshly?” The woman in red sneered. “If it weren’t for your sake, I would have taken action long ago!”

“Su Man, you!”

“It’s not her fault…” The woman in the man’s arms spoke weakly. “It’s my fault. I dragged everyone down… caused everyone to waste an item.”

The man hugged her tenderly. “Alright, alright, don’t talk. Rest well. The wound will heal soon, don’t be afraid…”

The woman in red mocked sarcastically: “Heh, playing the fragile little white lotus!”

“Su Man! I’m warning you…”

“Enough.” The man in the passenger seat spoke with displeasure.

The two in back simultaneously shut their mouths, though their faces still showed indignation.

The man said, “Quiet down. We just came out of the maze, and everyone needs to rest. First, find a place to settle down. Tomorrow we’ll see how Zhu Shu’s recovery is going, then decide whether to get on the road.”

The jeep turned a corner, leaving Shen Mo’s line of sight.

Shen Mo stayed in the tree for a while longer. After confirming he couldn’t hear any movement, he jumped down and walked out of the complex.

As he was leaving, he glanced at the tire tracks the jeep had left, followed the traces, and looked up at the distant fog.

“Just came out of the maze, huh…” he murmured thoughtfully.
