Chapter 238: Everyone’s Here

This dollhouse looked old and eerie, but the living supplies were neat and clean.

The bathroom had hot water, the kitchen had an induction cooker. Aside from lacking refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, and other modern electrical appliances, it basically recreated an English country lifestyle.

Teacher Cheng filled half a bathtub with hot water for Bai Youwei.

Shen Mo asked if she wanted Zhu Shu or Su Man to come help.

Bai Youwei refused.

She wasn’t familiar with either of these women. She didn’t like getting too close to strangers, even those of the same gender.

Besides, she only had a fever—she hadn’t weakened to the point where she needed someone else’s help just to bathe.

However, leaving her alone in the bathroom wouldn’t work either. If something happened, with her small frame, sitting in the bathtub, she wouldn’t even be able to climb out.

Bai Youwei suggested to Shen Mo: “You can pull the shower curtain.”

Shen Mo agreed.

During this time, the two of them had eaten and slept together all along the way. There really was no need to be overly concerned about propriety between men and women in this matter.

Shen·Perfect Gentleman·Mo’s heart was at ease, believing safety was the top priority.

While bathing, water sounds splashed in the bathroom.

He stood on one side of the shower curtain, listening to the movement on the other side.

When there was no sound, he would call out Bai Youwei’s name.

Bai Youwei complained: “Don’t keep calling my name and then not saying anything—it’s really weird. If you’re worried about me, we can chat.”

Shen Mo laughed. “I thought you didn’t want to talk.”

Bai Youwei sighed, her voice soft and raspy: “I really don’t have the energy to talk… but if I don’t talk, I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep while bathing.”

“Endure a bit longer. There’s a bed in the bedroom next door—you can sleep after your bath,” Shen Mo said.

Bai Youwei thought for a moment and asked, “How many bedrooms are here?”

“Three bedrooms.”

He paused briefly, then simply told her the entire situation of the house.

“This house has three floors total—or more accurately, two and a half floors. The first floor has a living room, dining room, kitchen, and storage room. The second floor has three bedrooms and a small study. There’s also an attic upstairs—half a floor.”

“Are there a lot of dolls here?” Bai Youwei asked.

Shen Mo nodded lightly. Realizing she couldn’t see, he added, “There are quite a few doll toys upstairs and downstairs—toy bears, toy rabbits, toy kittens and puppies… also tin frogs, wooden puppet toy soldiers, and such.”

The door downstairs suddenly opened with a click.

Immediately after, the sound of wind and rain came in together, along with people’s voices.

Tan Xiao’s voice was especially clear: “If it weren’t for looking for glasses! We would’ve reached the mountaintop ages ago!”

“You’re talking nonsense! It was clearly because you couldn’t tell directions and were running wild in the woods! I was the one who led you out of the forest, okay?!”

“If it weren’t for looking for your glasses, would I have gone into the forest?!”

Li Li’s voice was nearly breaking down: “I already said the glasses must have fallen nearby! Who told you to go look in the forest?!”

“Oh, enough, both of you say less…”

This was Teacher Cheng’s voice.

Shen Mo in the bathroom listened for a while, then said quietly, “It should be Yan Qingwen bringing people back.”

“Since everyone’s already here, the game could start at any time…” Bai Youwei closed her eyes and forced herself to perk up. “I’m done washing. Help me out.”

Shen Mo passed the bath towel through the curtain. After Bai Youwei wrapped herself, he came in to carry her.

The bottom half of the towel was soaked through, and her washed hair was also dripping wet. Shen Mo carried a whole body of water. He placed Bai Youwei on the wooden stool, letting her lean limply against him, then used a dry towel to help her dry her hair bit by bit.

While drying, Shen Mo’s peripheral vision caught sight of the dress she’d changed out of.

—The dress was soaked through, stained with mud, with loose threads at the hem’s edge, as if torn by something.

“I’ll wash it for you in a bit and put it by the fireplace to dry. It should dry quickly,” he said.

Bai Youwei shook her head lightly. “No need. I’ll just wear the clothes from the wardrobe.”
