Chapter 260 – In a Rampage

Back during the Lucky Q&A, the rabbit had nearly run out of charge — those final rounds of answers had kept the rabbit standing on the spinning wheel purely for the sake of intimidation.

Now that there was electricity in this house, Bai Youwei wasn’t about to pass up the chance to recharge it.

She had left the rabbit by the fireplace all night — ostensibly to dry it off, but conveniently, there happened to be an outlet on the wall nearby.

From yesterday afternoon to this morning, it still hadn’t reached full charge, but it should be more than enough to deal with the bear outside.

The one remaining problem was how to control the current precisely enough to avoid injuring anyone else.

Bai Youwei looked around at the interior layout.

As living quarters, a house this size would be cozy and just right.

But for fighting monsters, the space was far too cramped — there was nowhere near enough room to maneuver, whether attacking or dodging.

Shen Mo was considering the same problem. He cautioned Bai Youwei: “Don’t make a move unless you’re within a safe distance.”

Bai Youwei understood and nodded.

Shen Mo gently pulled the storage room door shut, then walked to Yan Qingwen’s right side, with Lu Ang positioned on the left.

Yan Qingwen stood holding the two small bears, two meters from the door.

Tan Xiao guarded the staircase, Li Li stood against the curtain, and Su Man, the farthest back, gripped her whip and fixed her eyes on the door.

Everyone was ready, waiting for the bear to come in…

Yan Qingwen’s heart sank slightly as he addressed the door: “Guest, please come in.”

The door clicked and slowly creaked open.

Through the gap in the storage room door, Bai Youwei peered out —

The mother bear was ambling inside, steady and unhurried, like a performing bear from a circus troupe — swaying its head from side to side, amiably lumbering along.

Yan Qingwen cautiously held out the stuffed bears.

The mother bear lowered itself slightly and fixed its eyes on him. After perhaps two or three seconds, the fur around its cheek pouches fanned slightly outward, revealing rows of stark white teeth — creak… creak, creak, creak…

The bear lunged!

It craned its neck back and let out a roar of fury! For some reason provoked beyond control, its massive body hurled itself straight at Yan Qingwen — the force of a mountain bearing down!

Yan Qingwen reacted with sharp reflexes, sidestepping out of the way!

The wooden floorboards behind him exploded into splinters in an instant! Beneath the bear’s violent impact, the floor crumbled like foam!

Bai Youwei saw this and felt a sharp jolt of alarm.

— Why didn’t it work?!

By now, Yan Qingwen had already sprinted into the living room without a second thought!

A series of crashing impacts rang out close behind him as the bear gave chase without letting up!

“Buy time!” Yan Qingwen bellowed!

The rampage would only last one minute!

If they could just hold out for sixty seconds, they’d be safe!

Bang!

The round wooden coffee table was crushed by the enormous creature, and Yan Qingwen dodged to the window — the bear lashed out again and missed!

It grew even more enraged! Its eyes fell on Li Li by the fireplace, and it unleashed another roar, wheeling around to charge at Li Li!

Li Li’s face drained of color. He held out a piece of firewood with a burning end, swinging it back and forth as he shouted, “C-come on! …Come on!”

The maddened bear had no fear of fire!

Lu Ang and Shen Mo each grabbed an end of the dining table cloth and flung it over the mother bear like a net, then quickly switched positions, crossing over to wrap it around her — trying to stop her from attacking further!

But the bear’s strength exceeded everyone’s expectations! Its razor-sharp claws tore through the tablecloth as easily as ripping paper!

Rrrip —

The beast broke free. One massive paw slammed into Li Li — he and the firewood flew into the wall together! Then crashed heavily to the floor!

He coughed up blood and immediately lost consciousness.

“LI LI!!!”

Su Man swung her whip forward!

But a whip like hers wasn’t suited for such a confined indoor space — too many obstacles. The surrounding cabinets and tables all interfered with its angle and force.

The blow barely registered on the mother bear.

But that last stumbling thrust of the firewood from Li Li as he fell had poked the bear —

A few sparks landed on the thick fur and raised a brief, acrid smell of scorching, then sputtered out quickly, doing the bear no harm whatsoever.
