Shen Mo and Tan Xiao were closest to the Nail-Tooth Beast!
The monster pushed off with its hind legs and launched itself directly at Shen Mo!
Shen Mo slashed back with the knife — he had enough strength, but the shattered blade was no longer hard enough. It struck the Nail-Tooth Beast’s enormous head like striking solid rock!
The fruit knife broke completely! Half the blade went flying!
The Nail-Tooth Beast grew even more enraged and lunged in with a bite!
Shen Mo dodged sideways, rapidly shifted direction to the beast’s left flank, and hurled a bead at it!
The Nail-Tooth Beast moved less nimbly than Shen Mo. It slammed head-first into the wall, punching a dent into it, sending dust and debris flying! It seemed completely immune to pain. As it raised its head, before it could even move again, the back of its skull was struck again by a bead!
Boom!
The sound wasn’t huge, but the Nail-Tooth Beast reacted as though in excruciating pain, clutching its head and shrieking!
Its forelimbs were too short to actually reach its head, though. After a few frenzied yelps, it spotted Tan Xiao nearby and charged straight for him!
Tan Xiao spun around and sprinted for the dining room!
The Nail-Tooth Beast’s hind legs were powerful — in just a few bounding strides it caught up with him. Tan Xiao flipped the dining table over to block it —
Shen Mo shouted from a short distance away: “Use a bead! Every other attack method is useless against it!!!”
But it was already too late!
Before he could draw a bead, Tan Xiao was headbutted by the Nail-Tooth Beast into the wall!
The creature’s skull was hard and enormous — like a metal block — and the collision struck Tan Xiao in the back, making him immediately spit blood! In the next instant, the Nail-Tooth Beast’s teeth sank into his shoulder. The sharp iron nails drove deep into skin and flesh like a stapler punching holes through a document! Blood sprayed out like a showerhead!
Bang!
Yan Qingwen sent a bead crashing straight into the Nail-Tooth Beast’s head — it exploded into a burst of flame on contact!
It was a 20% chance Thunder Burst effect!
The Nail-Tooth Beast immediately spun into a daze, as though blasted senseless. It staggered backward repeatedly, its body swaying unsteadily.
“Hang on a little longer!” Yan Qingwen shouted to everyone. “Thirty seconds left!”
While the Nail-Tooth Beast was still disoriented, Shen Mo rushed forward in a few steps, hauled Tan Xiao over his shoulder, and ran up the stairs!
Everyone else found cover as well.
But the Nail-Tooth Beast only stayed dazed for six or seven seconds. When it quickly discovered no one was left in the room, it let out a furious roar and charged up the stairs! Its speed was astonishing — it caught up with Shen Mo almost immediately!
Su Man whipped her lash from above, hoping to hinder the beast’s ascent, but the Nail-Tooth Beast was completely unfazed by the whipping. Its powerful hind legs launched it in a single bound straight up to the second floor, and it clamped its jaws directly onto the hand holding Su Man’s whip!
“AHHH!!!”
Su Man let out a scream of agony!
Her body plunged straight down from the second-floor stair railing!
The Nail-Tooth Beast opened its mouth again, ready to bite — Shen Mo hurled another bead at it!
The monster dodged in time. With a roar from its throat — and inexplicably abandoning its attack on them — it turned and charged into the storage room beside the stairs!
Bai Youwei was in the storage room!
Shen Mo’s expression changed drastically. He set Tan Xiao down and rushed toward the storage room!
But before he could get inside, he heard several thunderous bangs — the monster’s agonized screams — and it staggered backward out the door. A layer of crystalline bead-dust was scattered across the storage room doorway!
Yan Qingwen was also stunned!
When they used beads, they threw them one by one. Bai Youwei had apparently thrown an entire handful at once!
At least seven or eight beads — three of which triggered the Thunder Burst effect — blasting the Nail-Tooth Beast into a thoroughly dazed stupor!
Time was nearly up.
When the Nail-Tooth Beast recovered, the one-minute berserk period ended along with it.
It smacked its lips, then tilted its head and ground the fleshy suckers in its mouth against the floor once more, leaving an oily smear. At last, with apparent reluctance, it departed from the house…
Bai Youwei emerged from the storage room with a dark expression, gripping the handles of her wheelchair tightly, her face full of displeasure: “Why would it know I was in there?”
“This creature’s vision is wrong,” Shen Mo said, his own expression grim. “When it was attacking me, that angle should have made Tan Xiao invisible — but not only did it detect Tan Xiao’s presence, it precisely targeted him in the attack!”
