Chapter 606: Guessing the Number

The short-haired woman blurted out: “What method?”

Bai Youwei thought it over and smiled faintly. “I’ll go talk to them again first. If I use that method… it would actually be a little embarrassing, to be honest.”

Short-haired woman: “……”

She had originally thought of herself as fairly clever—but since entering this game, she still felt like she was struggling to keep up. As if everyone else was driving a sports car while she was riding a small scooter.

Then she heard Bai Youwei say: “The blue eyes are now leaderless and no longer a coherent force. In the next voting round, the yellow eyes will throw all their effort into coming after us. Each round, five people get eliminated. No matter how hard we try, there’s no way we can claim all five slots. In other words, at least two or three of us will be eliminated.”

The short-haired woman’s expression grew grave. “Which means we have no way to achieve the win condition of having five remaining players with the same eye color—unless we can identify the X-guest.”

Bai Youwei gave a light shake of her head. “The win condition might look like a choice between two options, but really there’s only one—eliminating the X-guest.

If the X-guest isn’t eliminated, no matter how many players are left at the end, it’s impossible for their eye colors to all be the same, because the X-guest’s eye color is fake.”

“Could that doctor be the X-guest?” the short-haired woman asked. “You said before that Xufang He’s number was somewhere between 28 and 29. Number 28 was already eliminated in the third round—so shouldn’t we vote for Number 29 next round? How confident are you?”

Bai Youwei furrowed her brow. She had originally been 80% confident—but recalling Xufang He’s reaction just now, something felt off.

The reason she had guessed his number was 29 was because when Xufang He had provided number ranges on two occasions, he had carefully avoided 28, 29, and 30. Number 28 was now eliminated, and Number 30 was a red eye—which left only 29…

Or did it only leave 29?

Could she have missed something?

Xufang He’s first number range:

1–5, 10–18, 24–27.

Xufang He’s second number range:

3–7, 10–17, 21–25.

Both ranges were missing: 8, 9, 19, 20, 28, 29, 30.

Of those, 8, 19, and 28 had already been eliminated. And Number 30 was a red eye. So Xufang He’s number fell within 9, 20, or 29.

No matter how she looked at it, Number 29 was the most suspicious.

Because when the Black man had written numbers for Xufang He to pick from, Xufang He—without consulting anyone—had crossed off 29 and 30.

Crossing off 30 was a smoke screen. But crossing off 29?

He had clearly shown an intense protectiveness over that number!

…Of course, thinking back through all those layered numbers now, 9 and 20 also seemed somewhat suspicious…

“Just to be safe, let’s do it this way—Numbers 9, 20, and 29. We’ll each put 2 votes on each of those three.” Bai Youwei said.

The short-haired woman’s expression was a little sour. She involuntarily glanced at the others.

In that last round, none of those allies had voted according to the plan.

One of them raised a hand and admitted frankly: “I want to win too, but my life is more important. This ‘divine punishment’ thing—I don’t want to run into it. So… when it comes to voting, if the doctor threatens us again, I probably won’t vote the way you two want. I’m sorry.”

Another raised their hand as well: “Same for me.”

The rest of them also indicated in turn that they wouldn’t be voting according to Bai Youwei’s wishes.

The short-haired woman’s expression grew uglier by the moment.

They were called allies, but in truth they were nothing more than a group of strangers, brought together by having the same eye color. Between them, forget mutual understanding—there wasn’t even basic trust.

How could they possibly win the game like this?
